I have been saving up my pennies (Warstore credit actually) for the Necrons when they get released. But now I hear the scuttlebutt that Tau (of all things! how galling!) are getting released next and the Necrons are getting pushed back. How solid is this information? Should I keep my hopes up for a Necron late summer-ish release? Or should I just bite the bullet and start on that Blood Angels force I've been thinking about (but holding off on in favor of the soon-to-be-released 'Crons)

Any info or advice greatly appreciated!

Basically: we don't know.

There's supposedly been some rewrites in the work for Necrons, while Tau are 5x5 in the pipe for a launch.

This occasionally happens, and is probably why GW doesn't like doing a 'set' release schedule until things are ready to go.

If you're really set on doing Necrons, get some Warriors and Monoliths. They're, by all accounts, not being redone but the Warriors likely would be recut into a smaller box.

Now I'm torn because I like Tau and have few, but I also wanted to start necrons when they got the new release. Either way, I'll be happy.

Ask yourself: have you rated a gallery image today?

You're pretty much in the same boat then

The line-up for the Tau is supposedly:
Pathfinders, Kroot being recut to include Kroothounds and Krootox options on the frames, new Crisis Suits, and possibly a new Drone variant.

Fire Warriors and the rest of the line should be left relatively untouched.

The Crisis Suits have been in need of a re-design ever since they were originally designed - they have always been pants. Be nice for Tau players to get some more plastic Kroot goodies too. In the end, I'd really rather see Crons come out first though. But I guess the time I wait will give me the chance to hammer out a good color scheme on some Warriors...

Always gotta look at the positive side

Longer time for release=more time to snatch up the stuff that likely will not be redone.

Plastic hounds would be fantastic. Unless they let the krootox have infiltrate like the rest of the unit, I still won't use them....unless you can somehow put a railgun on the back of that bad boy.

IMO, Necrons need it a LOT more than Tau.

Oh hai, 'What's Next' thread, long time no see. I'm sure you will not end horribly just like the one from five minutes ago.

No, this is not a "what's next thread" it's more of a "Should I Expect Necrons soon, or Am I Forced to Wait Til After Tau?"

What I am looking for is good advice like what Kanulwen gave - that is, buy som 'Cron Warriors and Monolith(s) (since they won't be redone) and work on them while I wait for GW to deliver the full new release.

I'd personally go for another army. I was thinking of collecting Tau until i heard about some updates coming soonish. Reason I say is cause GW has a knack of announcing updates, and then a year or two later they happen. Usually not so with most of their more popular armies, but all I need say is Dark eldar....5 years waiting for them to be redone. Maybe longer? It's been too long, thats all I have to say. So maybe go with something else first, instead of holding out like I did for so long.

Uh, no actually.

GW has a "knack" of not announcing anything until three months to the release date.

Dark Eldar weren't actually 'announced', they were just said to be 'a work in progress'.

Necrons do need a new release more than tau, though it pains me to say it...
But can't wait for new tau!!

This is the only solid piece of advice here.

Whenever necron come out, whatever their codex does to them, the warrior models will get more expensive by at least 33%. Remember when Imperial Guard came 20 to a box?

Yeah...

That said there are buckets of trade threads with necron warriors out there right now, so buy early to avoid the rush..

I have my 120. It'd be nice to field more than 20 at a time (i'm taking 100 plus a lord to a 2000 pt tourney later this month, just for the WTF.. Horde Necrons?? faces...).

I'm wanting plastic flayed ones and Immortals. Everything else is a bonus.

Incinerating your hopes

I'm really rooting for a xeno army that could possibly be called "Broken" I'm tired of the the marine crap that doesn't need updates and the IG that got turned into the most powerful force in the universe because of their 9 million blast templates and ridiculously cheap transport that has 3 twin lascannons. OH, and their vet squads that have a better load out than any marine unit for less than half the cost. . .and a better transport. . .*sigh* I f#cking hate IG. . .

I find it amusing how the Xenos armies now cry foul on the Imperial armies for being 'broken' when for a long time--the Xenos armies were broken and the Imperial armies were underpowered.

I agree, and await the inevitable tidal wave of imperium-hate and anecdotal evidence to the contrary.

Remember when fielding a Stormtrooper Squad with a Chimera APC as Troops would cost more than the Swarmlord--if you wanted to make the squad and APC half-survivable?

Sure, I didn't like it either, but some people would love everyone to think Imperium have ALWAYS dominated, when it's a very modern problem.

Remember when your only Troops choices were Platoons and Armored Fist squads and you only got 1(albeit exceedingly customizable) Vet squad?

Vaguely. I got into 40k right as the Guard books shifted from the previous one to the Doctrineapalooza book.

Remember when we only had 1 stand alone marine dex instead of 6 (2 and 7 if we count chaos)? And when two of them didnt have equipment that started in "Wolf" or "Blood"?

A good number of players entering the hobby won't have been around to witness the glory of the Xenos, just the rise of the Imperium. It's a stretch to ask people to take into account armies that they've never played with, against or even seen under editions that they're never used.

I started in 2006 on the verge of 5th edition, using a Chaos Space Marine book that I had for a few months before it got replaced by the "ZOMFG FZORGLE OBLITERATORZ!1!1" book we got lumped with that spawned a host of dual-lash prince, 9 obliterator all plague marine troop armies.

I don't think I witnessed an overpowered Xenos book. (That's not me sticking my fingers in my ears and going "lalalalala!" when you say they've overpowered, it's just me stating that i've no experience of it.) If you'd told me Xenos were overpowered before I got a bit more mature and researched stuff, then you'd get the same response people get from newer players right now, "What do you mean? Marines are overpowered, not Xenos."

It's simply an issue of experience. Someone who has been with 40k from inception will no doubt have more experience of the game and it's incarnations than a player who started a year ago, but the new player will disagree with the older player because he hasn't seen how it was beforehand.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I miss those Vets. You could do fun stuff like arming them with Lasgun, Laspistol, and CCW. Plus, they could have an Officer.
