So I had an interesting idea to thwart JotWW today.

The FAQ states that the Rune Priest needs to have LoS to the first model on the line to be affected by JotWW.

JotWW doesn't affect vehicles.

SO... if you have a special character (let's say a Nob with a Power Klaw) in a squad of troops, if you keep that character well hidden behind a Battlewagon, or a group of Kanz, a Trukk, or a Buggy, you have a chance at crewing up the Space Puppy player. Just make sure that the vehicle is in between the Rune Priest and any targets that would allow the Priest to draw a line and hit your guy.

Yeah, I know it's a long shot. The Rune Priest will 90% of the time be able to move to a location where he'll be able to see where he wants to aim and still hit who he wants. You'd need a large vehicle to do this in most cases. A Rhino might do it if you're close enough. Land Raider or a Battlewagon would work well. Races with Skimmers couldn't really take advantage of this since their tanks are all floaty and won't really block LoS.

But it's just an idea. Maybe the Space Puppy player isn't careful with his movement phase and you luck out. Someone else probably already came up with this, but I just thought I'd share.

There are 2 much easier ways to avoid it.

1: Use the transports instead of hiding behind them.

2: kill off the priest as quickly as possible if he is going to be a problem.
With my nids he usually has 6 hive guards firing at him as soon as possible, along with venom and heavy venom cannons.
Im happy to ignore transports if it means i will get rid of something that will do alot of damage to me.

What Jackal said, gotta figure out your target priority. It isn't an unbalanced power, just something that must be taken into account when you first look at the table after deployment and strategize before you just start rolling dice.

Honestly though, unless you play nids or something else that relies one monstrous creatures, JOTWW shouldn't be that game changing. And on the plus side, if he took Jaws that means he didn't take the infinitely better Living Lightning

Well, there are also a few ideas if you are a DE player:
1) Fast transports and anti-troop weapons and/or darklight weapons. Burn the priest to the ground or ID him.
2) Lady Malys. She and the squad she is with will be immune to psychic powers. Throw them at him.

‎"The scions of the Dark City would never admit that the unceasing hunger at their core is what drives them to such heights of cruelty. Instead they maintain that they act only upon their own desires. Some have even managed to convince themselves of this. In truth, unless our cousins in the webway feed upon a constant diet of extreme emotion they will slowly wither away, leaving naught but a soulless husk. We of the Craftworlds deny all such urges, and in doing so become less than ourselves. Perhaps it is those that we left to perish who are the lucky ones." - Spiritseer Iyanna Arienal, Meditations.

Or the priest took both.

My Necrons fight JotWW by ignoring it. =D Instead of removing models from play, I just lay them on their side in preparation for a WBB =D

Can you WBB if the models are removed from play rather than dieing?

Thought that they were gone for good if they had the "Removed from play" effect.

As both a Space Wolves player and Necron player it definitely takes them right off the board. And Necrons are one army it devastates most. Maybe not so much Wraithwing but if it gets to your Warriors your toast.

Personally the best way is to pop the Rune Priest. They don't have eternal warrior so hitting them with something you'd normally aim at a vehicle isn't a bad idea.

Only problem is, really Jaws should be annoying but it should also be one of the least threatening things to non-Necrons/Tyranids.

Yeah, I agree with Stalker, Jaws is neat and is a great 2ndary power to something like living lightning or murderous hurricane, but definitely isn't the crazy game changer that most people make it out to be.

That is, unless you decide to deploy in a straight 24" line for me, then it might be devastatingly effective.

I don't think hiding behind a transport helps.

Jaws may not effect vehicles, but he can still aim at that point IIRC so he would just aim at the spot on the vehicle and then blaze through to the actual target.

Except for the part where the Necron codex says, "INSTEAD OF REMOVING THE MODEL FROM PLAY, lay it on its side."

SW says, "Remove from play."

Necrons say: "Instead of removing it from play, lay it on its side."

I may be talking about the Rez Orb. But I know either with the rez orb, or either with or without it, you can't remove the applicable necrons from the board.

i belive the preceding words in the WBB rules say,

"if the necron model loses it's last wound, instead of removing it from play, turn it on its side"

WBB seems to require actual wounds to have been caused.

Yeah, my LFGS and friends always play it as if it is straight up removed from play rather than actually being killed they don't get their WBB.

I believe the same is for our tournies.

It does not cause wounds, you can tell that to my Carnifex... Either way, Necrons DO NOT get WBB.
