Anyone else find these incredibly annoying?

Many boards/forums disallow the use of these.

Not to mention a certain member on these boards has a particularly disturbing flash.

Anyway we can have this enforced?

I hate the gif's. Some of them (especially the bigger files like the star trek one someone has on here) lag my computer to the point where the browser freezes for a minute or 2.

Already knew that... but why should we suffer by losing the worthwhile avatar pics for the sake of a few who are inconsiderate?

I do ask if anyone has a problem with my avatars and signatures I have to let me know. I've taken down some of the more tasteless ones I have shown (head exploding one, hitler one, ect.).

We're adults here for the most part. A little fun goes a long way to enjoying this site, but let me know if it is not fun for you.

Your avatars are fine IMO Warone, I didn't even notice this one was a gif until now, I think the op is complaining about the more in your face gifs such as those featuring pop stars with aerosol breasts.

I have to say I find your current sig GIFs somewhat painful. There's just too much going on.

I used to have a Gif avatar, but it was a dancing 8-bit color changing monkey. People liked it because it was simple, easy and very cute.

.Gifs should have a small motion. In fact, I think the monkey should come back. And so it shall.

<--- THAT is a good Avatar .Gif. Simple, cute and a pleasure to look at.

Add character?

What adds character is wit and imagination, not an annoying 5 second loop. Especially if it is an off the peg copy/paste.

There are some really well executed and informative banners in sigs that add character.
Once you have seen Spock et al looking at each other once is it really amusing to have to see it repeated ad nauseum?

How is it inconsiderate?
Well I constantly have an unecessary distraction in my peripheral vision
Some are causing lagging as mentioned above

I'm not a fan of the moving gifs. An unnecessary distraction at best, tasteless and annoying most of the rest of the time.

If you need gifs to make your post seem worthwhile, you're doing something wrong.

Haven't chilled slightly at all or steam out of the ears furious in the first place.
Just telling it as I find it. They are annoying and an unecessary backgroind noise that have zero contribution to anything people have to say.
Which is why I visit Dakka. not to see flashing lights and/or tasteless garbage.

Let’s begin with the very name of the song, ‘Friday’. The name of this day of the week, which follows Thursday and comes before Saturday (Sunday comes afterward), which is the sixth day of the week. 6 being the number of the beast.

In the opening scene, Rebecca wakes up from bed and sings about having her daily “bowl” and cereal. As we move on to the next scene, we notice that her family in the back is moving unusually fast. These are all signs which indicate that she’s on some type mind controlling drugs.

Rebecca ponders on which seat to take; the front seat (the leader role), or the back seat (the follower). Rebecca, being the puppet of the Illuminati, chooses the backseat, of course.

In the second car shot, Rebbeca seems to have finally made up her mind, and she appears to be sitting in the backseat right in the middle of her two friends, who are, coincidentally, both wearing red dresses and have braces, symbolizing the blood and restraint she will have to go through as she transform into a mindless puppet.

On our right we have one of Rebecca’s “friends” whose uncontrollabe (based on her arm movements) glee doesn’t match the activity or emotion of the moment, on our left we have her other friend whose horrified expression speaks to the dilemma of the soul when one chooses to enroll in Satan’s army. They truly are the angel and devil on her shoulders.

To whom is Rebecca pointing? The viewer. And to what purpose? The acquisition of your soul.

When Rebecca does finally arrive at the party she’s excited for we find it mostly populated by teenagers like her, this represents Limbo and the fact that their souls are still up for grabs. Now it just depends on who gives to them first, the dark or the light.

Need we explain who this is?

Satan.

In all his glory. Fast cars, expensive jewelry, he’s there to entice the millions of unsuspecting teenagers to give up their families and futures for an eternity of damnation.

As above. I rest my case.

Tell you the truth, i was kinda wondering how to add a gif to my profile picture, i guess now is probably not the right time to ask for assistance with that, huh? LOL

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies.

No, not all of them. Your avatar you can barely tell is a .gif unless you focus on it. I'm really talking about Darthbobs avatar, its just fething annoying.

Yeh, that is the annoying/disturbing one I referred to.

I have asked the member, then when a response was not forthcoming, asked mods to remove it.

This forum is frequented by younger members also...
