Chaos Daemons was tail end of 4th edition, start of 5th. Unless there was a
good reason for the new codex coming so soon, I would not bank on a new one until perhaps 6th edition (and even then, that is years down the road). For codex updates right now, look towards the following as clues to a relatively new release for a codex:
Model line getting old (Necrons, Tau, Sisters, recently
GK and
DE got the upgrade).
Popular Codex (Space Marines tend to get an update more frequently than others).
Serious imbalances because of rule changes (Not sure if that is why 'Nids got a newer codex, and for some of the older
SM variant chapters, they hotfixed some options to make them "up to date.").
Perhaps related to pormotional tie in (If they release an
AOBR-esque set, it will be with 2 armies from a more recent codex).
They could also be trumped by other factors such as the timeline of events
GW has set up in their headquarters that no one else is privy too. If it's like the creational process for
MtG,
GW has thought out
years in advance what they want to do and how they will do it (with feasability and reality factoring in as well to make any changes they deem they need to make).
