Ok, OK, the title might be a little overkill but I've been reading through the latest White Dwarf and some things immediately popped out at me:
The Battle report - when the two players give their analysis at the end, it's all 'Dreadknight this and Paladins that, the best parts of the army, wouldn't have won without them etc etc'. Then throughout the battle report, it seems to me that there is a definite focus on how uber the paladins are.
The guy who plays the GK in the battle takes Draigo because he thinks the fluff is really cool and he can't possibly leave him out etc etc.
Then there's the way that GW paint the purifiers with a different colour helm and shoulder pads. They also talk about the little shield things the termies have and how you're supposed to differentiate between the different type of GK by using different ones.
Well, to me, it's so obvious that they are just completely plugging the Paladins/Terminators which also happen to be the most expensive (in monetary terms) troopers in the GK army. And the Dreadknight with it's whopping Landraider sized cost - what a surprise! And if GW think I'm going to paint my purifiers with different colours to my other GK, they are sadly mistaken - I will paint mine the same so that I can mix and match; if I want to make them purifiers one day or strike squads the next, then I will do and I wont be restricted by what colour they are.
And if I ever use my existing GK termies, then I will use them as Paladins or Termies whenever I want. I may even field the old original GK termie that I still have and call him a Paladin. I realise that GW is a business but I bought that issue of White Dwarf to read some interesting stuff, not to read what is effectively a giant advert for their most expensive products and be told how to paint them to make it more difficult to say they are one thing when they are actually another.
