Hey everybody!! I'd like to have some help with vassal.
I just downloaded vassal and the vassal 40k 5.4 module.
When I try to open the module vassal isn't able to do it... It simply start "loading" (I mean.. the mouse pointer shows me it's loading but i'm not sure) but nothing happens in 5 minutes... Is it common that opening a module take so much time? can I have problems with the java platform? Or there are prerequisites I'm not aware of?(I have a Netbook)...

Please Help!!!!

First of all, vassal 40k isn't supported anymore, so I hope you know that.

Second, the cons vastly outweigh the pros. It's not worth using now.

Anyway, just try reinstalling? Isn't that like the first rule of computers?

When you say nto supported do you mean it doesn't work or we can actually get in troubel if we use it?


There is a thread goign on elsewhere (http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/356949.page) talking about 40k solo play and the best sugegstion so far has been Vassal.

Well... solved guys!! thanks a lot anyway (the mod probably was damaged during WinRar extraction... I extracted it a seond time and it works now)

??? What do you mean Vassal isn't supported anymore???
It doesn't work now??? Or GW made complaints about it???

As I understand it, Games Workshop got into their usual snit because someone had a good idea using their intellectual property. A legal flame war ensued, and so the Vassal 40K module is no longer supported by Vassal. Any version of the 40K module you receive now will be a bootlegged version, and officially does not exist. It is unsupported by Vassal, and if anyone asks, they didn't make it.

I've been playing Vassal for a while now and so far, I can only say that most (well all that I've played with) of the people there are trash. They can't play a game without being mad and disconnecting randomly, few being cyber trolls and downgrading the community. Game play wise, I find that the player turns are really really slow for some reason...the mechanics? IDK, but yeh, as nightwatch stated, Vassal 40k was discontinued because GW put their finger down (or was it toe O.o?). You can still find some random modules around the net.

I'm surprised by the negative opinions of Vassal 40k on here. I use it quite often and find it very good. There are the obvious issues of being a 2-dimensional conversion of a 3-d game, but I've found the people to be really helpful and nice for the most part. There are a few jerks, but they exist everywhere.

TL;DR - I highly recommend vassal 40k if you can't get a game going IRL

What? Are you adddressing someone who hasn't posted in this thread? Or are you a psker and don't need to read the thread to know the content? (could you teach me kplzthx?)

Seeing as the first reply was that it's not worth using and another one said that they'd only dealt with nasty people on it, it seemed relevant.

Vassal 40K, as far as I know, never had anything to do with the company behind Vassal. It's a third party mod that they used to host/link to. Someone, either one of the original team or someone else, picked it up again, so it's being updated, though it hasn't been for several months now. Last post on the devlog was March 8th, predicting a release this month...

Vassal40k is fine, it moved somewhere out of the reach of GW's IP laws.
