I have cleverly mistitled this tread as a april fools prank.
But this tread actually has a point. Canadain elections.

What is a PYCH?
Also, I'm going to assume this thread is about American Idol.
I am going to vote for whoever has the most "mainstream yet kinda rock" look, blond highlights, a sad yet inspiring story, and a mediocre yet endearing musical style.
If they can record a remake of a classic song that I love and totally butcher it by making it sound like the rest of the modern pop rock, then BONUS POINTS!

"Psyche" is a phrase some people shout after saying something they really don't mean.
Ex)
"Want some candy?" a guy asks another guy.
"Sure." the guy responds.
"Psyche!" the guy shouts as he pulls away the offered candy.
Also, hasn't the canadian government collapsed?

How far the OT has fallen when a less experienced poster can comment on one who has been here longer. I thought you honestly did not know that 'pych' meant 'psyche' and therefor did not know what 'psyche' meant. No, I'll stick with newbs.
I was also going on the relative amount of time spent on dakka's OT forum. I've seen the decline for a far longer time than biccat has as you have seen the decline for longer than I have.
@platuan4th, biccat asked what it meant to mock the OP apparantly. I didn't think he was mocking so I explained that he meant 'psyche' and what it meant just in case biccat didn't know. So you were with biccat if you asked what the word meant in order to criticize the OP.
I don't think that I was the only one to see that it was most likely a typo and decided not to say anything about it, at least I hope so.

Being 18 now, I'm going to vote (I find it hypocritical when people complain about government but don't vote, plus there isn't enough young voters). Most likely go Liberals they match the closest to my values.

For example, I've never voted for a US president since I turned 18 because I've yet to encounter a candidate worth voting for. I'm not going to vote for someone I could care less about just because I CAN vote. Then again, I come from a state(Louisiana) where people commit voter fraud by voting for people who are dead and they allow people to vote even if they haven't paid their taxes.

As far as federal elections are concerned, the 24th Amendment requires them to do so, explicitly.
The right of citizens of the United States to vote in any primary or other election for President or Vice President, for electors for President or Vice President, or for Senator or Representative in Congress, shall not be denied or abridged by the United States or any State by reason of failure to pay any poll tax or other tax.

Yes, I know. I was referring to state and city level elections, although that law may have changed in LA and New Orleans since I took Law in High School.

After a quick Google, it appears that Harper v. Virginia Board of Elections extends the 24th amendment to state elections, which essentially means that it extends to municipalities as well.

How old are you? If you've never voted because your standards weren't met yet, it would imply they are either unrealistic or you adhere to a political spectrum that is not represented.

Not voting isn't a political statement when no one is paying attention. Do you think politicians really care about the motivations of people who can't be arsed to take 20 minutes out of their day once every two years? It is more of a statement about the people not voting than a statement to the people who are being voted on.

Yep.
Politicians already have power, they don't particularly care if someone else disagrees.
Hell, in many ways, the idea that powers "comes from the people" is the best, and most insidious, method of control that's ever been devised.

Don't mind halonachos, he's just going through menopause.
At any rate, I don't particularly like any of my local politicians, but the dems are definitely the lesser of the two evils here, what with the repugs basically seeming to try and do their best to destroy the public school system and public colleges in the state.

I don't know if that's exactly true. If you commit tax fraud or don't pay your taxes and become a convicted felon, the state could prevent you from voting based on that conviction.
