hi guys

I really need to get 3 dreadknights in my army but sadly don’t have the £99 for them so I was wandering if the epic Imperial Warlord Titan is the same size as a DK and if so would it be a good stand in (I've heard their quite cheep on ebay lol)

The warlord titan is probably ogre or maybe Dreadnought sized at a push. Its nowhere near big enough to be a Dreadknight.

you could probably make a decent dreadknight out of a Defiler and a Sentinel, however that would probably be more expensive than the normal model. The only other alternative is to go and pick up a bunch of cheap plasticard and tubes and scratchbuild your own.

There is no good stand in. If you don't want the model, don't put it in your list.

Pentinent engine for £20? Added plasticard? Just an idea. Also I think the 3 NDK maybe excessive.

NoBaconz4You: thats not a bad idea come to think of it. it should be pretty easy to stretch it a little so yeah I'll give that a go ^^

"Also I think the 3 NDK isn't excessive enough" I'm sure thats what you meant to say

ph34r: its not that I dont want it, I just dont want to pay that much for it lol

does anyone have a pic of a Pentinent engine next to a GK?

Hate to break it for you, but sometimes when there are things you want and can't afford (and I know this sounds craaazy!), then you can't have them.

A NDK is about twice as large as a Penitent Engine.

wow really. that is crazy lol

I might, if I can, try to get hold of some cheep dreads on ebay and extend them. I've been toying with the idea of doing some kind of mechanicus army with the GKs, using knight titans as NDK and cultists as henchmen so I'll see what I can do

As a general rule, conversions whose sole purpose is to save money look appropriately crappy.

How about you buy them one at a time? At least you'll have all the proper models eventually.

Seconded. One real dreadknight will look a thousand times better than 3 or 4 cobbled together ones.

Do they have plasma donation centers in the UK? Here in the states you can go into a clinic and donate plasma from your blood and they pay your for it. My brother makes $30 twice a week when he goes. That's an idea.

Final word about the Penitence Engine ; those are dreadnought-sized and made of solid metal in 4-6 difficult to assemble parts. Probably would look really stupid with long plastic legs, IMO.

If you consider the fact that the mold for a model like this would run about $25 000. Not to mention tooling design costs, packaging, shipping, labour. Still GW has quite a bit of profit when you look at it.

Have a look at this articile if you are interested in where all the costs come from.

Why is there some much need to have your own DK at the same height as a GW model? I didn’t think height was a necessity only the base size??? Why not use something smaller if you think the overall effect will save you money and look good????

I would say your quite a bit off there on the initial manufacture of the mould, the DK mould (from looking at the finished product) is more complex than exaple used in that link (land raider) converted to GBP that $25,000 is about £15,000
i would guess its possibly closer to double that. i have worked with moulds less complex that manufacture cost was about £45,000.

While I am sure that the plasma centers appreciate the plug, that's what junkies do to get smack. I have to say that this might be the rock bottom of toy soldier collecting. Repeat after me "Hi, my name is________. I have been feeding my GW monkey for _______ years now. I have had no girlfriends, very little in the way of social life, and have lost three jobs. They caught me stealing packing material for terrain, thought I was huffing zap-a-gap because I was assembling models at work, and a female co-worker took offense to the green bewbs I was sculpting in the next cubicle over. I was even DONATING PLASMA to feed my insatiable thirst for baby carrying mecha soldiers. My parents have never understood me, I live in their basement, and I LARP on the weekends as a way to meet available women."

Open up the front and try to see what you can do about arms, plasticard and tubing with a bit of gs and garden wire shud be no problem, then just wack some weapons and stuff on it. But I cannot really see what can stand in for something as mighty as the dread knight, its just too unique!

Why not they're good (note they are not their )
does not explain why 3 are required.

Why not 5? 10? as many as you like? points costs not withstanding.

Why all three at once? why not buy one now and save to get the others?

TheGiantPeanut: I like that idea, needs a bit of work but I'm sure I could do something with it

Chibi Bodge-Battle: why not five or ten? I can only have 3 per army

yeah, it answers it perfectly. their good, I like good things and wish for them to be in my army and 3 good things are 3X as good as one good thing. its simple if you think about it. I also cant see what’s wrong with them, their even better when you give them a teleporty thing so they can move themselves 30" on top of an obj at the near end of the game thus contesting it if enemy models are there and in the mean time laying down some punishment in the form of gattling psylancers .

I fully intend to buy them one at a time but £33 X 3 still =£99 and I feel that is a lot to pay for three models no matter how good they are and if I can find a good alternative that costs less then I will go with that in place of a real NDK. I also would like to have a mechanicus looking army and a NDK doesn't really fit in with what I'm going with.

Ah I the penny slowly drops.

Was thinking of the Star Wars walkers but the linky from Giant Peanut seems pretty much to have it.
Down side is they are resin and metal but if the body is resin some armd should be fairly easy to attach

Have you checked the Botz stores for useful components?

worse comes to worse, you can just buy plasticard, and see if your brain is up to the engineering. Its not going to be easy but it is by and large the cheapest option of all
