For a webpage design class i have to make my own website as my final project so i am going to it for my IG army and i thought i would start learning how do good battle reports on dakka so that when i have to make the webpage i will be able to it decently.

This game features my Pantanus Prime 51st vs a renegade Tau sept and will help to explain the fluff of my army.

In the year 857M41 the forge world of Pantanus Prime was called upon to raise four regiments to join the Damocles Crusade. The first two were raisedand shipped out to the front while a third was in orbit when the Tau arrived. The Tau smashed through the fleet in orbit and the two veteran regements of Pantanus Prime could not break from their current engagements. It was up to the 51st to rid their home of the heathen Tau.

The command of the regement was given to a semi-retired PDF colonel called Kratsen (straken count as). He quickly rallied the defences and set an ambush for the Tau commanders in a manufactory district.

My armor forces set up to engae and draw out the Tau etherial and his top commander while i would arrive on the flanks with infantry and air support.

Mission is kill points and deployment is table quarters. Tau wins roll off for turn 1 and takes it.

then the infiltrators arrive

First turn tau moves the devilfish with his etherial and shooting sees him shaking 2 chimeras and my demolisher despite ungodly amunts of markerlights and S8 and S10 weapons

On my turn i move my demolisher 11" and the two shaken chimeras 12" while one of my melta vet squads breaks off to take car of the pathfinders. My shooting kills a firewarrior with a multi laser and 4 pathfinders go down to melta and shotgun fire from the vets. His pathfinders fail their morale and run away.

On his turn 2 the pathfinders rally and come back in order to give my vets trouble. Meanwhile he makes both reserve rolls and brings in 2 squads of suits that proceed to destroy 1 chimera, immobilise 1 chimera, and blow the multilaser off another. The pathfinders kill 2 vets and they make their pinning check then the devilfish kills another causing them to make and fail a morale check they then fall back 4".

My vets go on to make thier leadership and stop running. i guess the seargent figured out his 6 men could easily go take out those weak pathfinders. They walk up board the chimera then the chimear rumbles forward. It is at this point i have forgotten to roll for reserves and wont do so til next turn. my demolisher turns the corner to line up a shot on the hammerhead which has failed to any worthwhile damage to anything. I manage to kill all 4 pathfinders and the devilfish while my 2 PIS unload into the suits infront of them causeing 1 wound in the squad in my deployment zone and 1 wound on the squad in the middle. The demolisher immobilises the hammerhead

With my troops doing so well i decided the reinforcements would wait a little while longer.

After shooting everything and doing nothing but killing a few measly guardsmen he has his suits charge the immobile chimera and the dismounted PIS. He stuns the chimera and kills several guardsmen while i kill one of his suits. The commissar tells his squad they arent running and they dont.

All my reserves show up thanks to my astropath and i have my blob and the colonel's vendetta go on my right while the other vendetta and Al'Rahem move to secure the left. Most of my shooting is directed to the etherial's devilfish which is blown up and i kill all but him 2 firewarriors and a sheild drone. My 2 combined vendettas blow the gun off the hammerhead. I kill a suit in CC but he passes his morale.

His firewarriors rapid firre the blob and kill 11 but they pass their morale. With all my luck so far my dice finally failed me. His etherial assaults my PIS and my PW fails to wound i lose combat try to run then get beat down by the etherial. The PIS finaly wins the combat but the suit gets away.
I lost contact with beta platoons commander soon after he alerted me to the Tau assault. I assume he died which is fine, I never liked that ass anyway.

Apparently the chimera crew liked the commander well enough because they proceeded to to kill the etherial with a heavy flamer. The colonel moves up to assist the blob. The blob moves up to the top of the building in order to assault since none of his units failed their morale check. My shooting pretty much whiffs but for assault the kratsen and his unit take out the skyray and the blob manages to take out the firewarriors and their devilfish. Al'Rahem takes out the running away suit.

The last couple of firewarriors rapid fire the command squad and kill everyone but straken who moves up and the command suits finally kill the chimera with my other vets.

I destroy the hammerhead assault the last devilfish and charge Al'Rahem at the battlesuits. the devilfish goes up and Al'Rahem ties combat.
The fireawarriors rapid fire straken and drop him down to 1 wound he and the preist then charge the unit of firewarriors and straken finally dieswhile the preist kills another couple and Al'Rahem kills off the last of the suits for a complete wipeout of tau forces.

With the tau leadership dead the rest of the invasion force should be easy to root out and annihilate. I also recived communication that reinforcements are inbound from a nearby sector which will help improve morale around here.

That Crisis Suit is *not* an ethereal. It is probably a "Shas'el". An ethereal is the sorriest HQ in the game, and now Tau player in their right mind will field one. It looks like a tau-ish old man in a robe on his way to the swimming pool. Doesn't even have an Armor Save.

Minor Point: Also, one can't infiltrate the PathFinders' Devilfish, not in 5e anyway (see last paragraph of USR Infiltrate). He can infiltrate the PFs, but the 'fish is to be deployed elsewhere.

Nice foam-core buildings.

Giving the exact amounts for wargear like that isn't allowed on the internet. You can say that the ethereal cost a total of 90 points, but not that he cost 50 points plus 15 for...etc...

Nice battle. Great board btw, I really like the city fight thing. I have to say, as a Tau player, his list is really awful. I thought you had misunderstood when you said he took an ethereal. They have no redeeming qualities. His suit layouts are less than optimal, and he didn't bring any broadsides. Not bringing broadsides against Mech IG is bad news bears. Not terribly surprised he lost, seeing the lists.

I will agree, the board is awesome (now I have idea for my table at home )

What wasn't awesome was the Tau list...Any Tau player worth his salt wouldn't take an Etheral. Skyrays also are a waste of points.

I will say you did quite well against all of the rapid fire pulse rifle shots and TL Fusion Blaster from the XV8s. Good job!

And if you're drinkin' well, you know that you're my friend and I say "I think I'll have myself a beer"

He doesnt really play Tau any more and only did so because i asked him to since this game was to help explain my fluff. As such he told me he was going to have a rediculously bizzar list. Honestly though he had enough S8 weaponry to just wreck my chimeras but his rolling failed miserably. I still cant get over the fact my PCS with its PW failed to kill off the etherial and his last body guard then got chased down by him and killed.

Well, as has already been said, you need to use clearer markings on your pictures. That first picture is rather hilarious, you've used dark writing on a dark background, and light writing on a light background!

If you want to make a battle report where people can really follow whats going on fully, then you should take a zoomed out picture of the whole table at the end of each player's turn using clear marking to show what died, what moved where etc (although have some close-ups of the action during the turn as well). Its also nice to explain WHY you moved certain units, or how losing certain units disrupted your plans and how you compensated. Basically, go to Ailaros' battle reports site and try your best to match his awesomeness! http://www.ailarian.com/folera/batreps/blood-conquers-all/index.html

Oh yeah, and be careful with your spelling. Its still reasonably easy to follow your writing, but seeing all those spelling mistakes can get annoying for a reader...

i modeled my reports on ailaros's though he actually has photoshop or some such equvialent that i have yet to get my hands on.

Where are you seeing the most spelling mistakes at? Is it in my spelling of unit names or just as im going along typing out the events of each turn?

Yeah, I thought your reports had an Ailaros-like quality to them with the markings of dead units and such. I don't think you really need photoshop though, your only problem with the photo-editing was that your lines weren't very clear. I had a quick look at paint (which is what I assume you're using to edit) and you can set the line thickness to be pretty big, so that shouldn't be a problem. Ailaros also uses different colours for each side to make it easier to see whats happening, green for his movement and kills, red for enemy movement and kills (and these are nice bright clear colours as well).

If you look more carefully at Ail's batreps you'll see that each turn he has 1-2 close ups, with no markings, and then he has one big zoomed out pic of the end of the turn where he puts all his markings on. I think this is the best way to do it cos if you're putting movement arrows and kill markings on the close-ups (like you have done), its difficult to understand whats happening in the context of the rest of the board.

General Ian wrote:Where are you seeing the most spelling mistakes at? Is it in my spelling of unit names or just as im going along typing out the events of each turn?

A bit of both. Its nothing major, but it can get a bit annoying and it doesn't look so good if you're supposed to be presenting a professional website for your project. I'd suggest typing into something with a spellchecker like MSword and then cut and paste that into your forum post.

Good luck with your future endeavours!
