Not sure if here's the right place to put it - but let's discuss what kind of music you listen to or what kind of atmosphere you prefer while painting/working

For me, I think it's atmosphere is really different. It's almost impossible for me to work in a non productive environment so I prefer working while having someone working on something nearby.

Music is really important too, my music taste varies from Jazz, D&B, Hiphop, Trace, Classical and Disco.
Recently, these have been on my playlist:

- Sam Sparro
- Daft Punk (TRON Legacy soundtrack)
- Black Eyed Peas
- Infected Mushroom
- Acoustic Alchemy
- Rammstein

How about you guys?

Sounds really productive!
Japanese lessons sound like a great idea - I'm doing Japanese too but my listening and writing is horrible.

Which book do you use? I think Minna no nihongo series do have audio supplement - might have to ask my teacher.
If you have a source where I can DL and don't mind sharing, please do!

Thanks for the idea!

I prefer to retreat to my man-cave so that I can cut out some distractions, although I usually have my iPod in to listen to a wargaming podcast as I go (the D6G, Eternal Warriors, and 40k radio are my current ones).

Although, I do often take my modeling station upstairs to do some painting next to the wife as she watches TV, so that I can atleast pretend I'm spending time with her .

i usually just have youtube up with some standup on a playlist (currently going thru a female comedian phase) I need to be on the computer too as i usually paint, take pictures and upload and cycle through that over the course of the session.

Podcasts for me. I can only paint for a few hours at a time before my quality goes to hell, and the talk helps me be distracted from how long I've actually been painting.

As far as which ones, well, you can't go wrong with the D6 Generation. Also Podhammer and Bad Dice are pretty good WHFB podcasts. Finally, when I need something other than gaming, I listen to the Mike O'Meara Show like it's my religion.

...But since this thread is actually about music, I listen to rock (R.E.M., Fuel, Counting Crows, Toad the Wet Sprocket, etc.) or soundtracks (the soundtracks for Guilty Gear XX and BlazBlue: Calamity Trigger are mighty fine).

"I have concluded through careful empirical analysis and much thought that somebody is looking out for me, keeping track of what I think about things, forgiving me when I do less than I ought, giving me strength to shoot for more than I think I am capable of. I believe they know everything that I do and think, and they still love me. And I’ve concluded, after careful consideration, that this person keeping score is me." -Adam Savage

HOLY - so I'm not the only one!

TBH, I actually like working while my gf is around working on her own artwork too - it's like we're competing in a way and we give each other honest, constructive criticisms.

She likes metal stuff so sometime we go by her playlist, which, in my opinion sounds more like a typical warhammer dudes' list than mine:
- Metallica
- Megadeath
- Rammstein
- G3

-----

As for BEP - lol
I actually like some of their stuff. I don't like gangsta rap so I find BEP to be at least more positive and funky.

Eh, the White Stripes or the Dead Weather. Audio books are pretty awesome, as is NPR news and any of their radio shows they do. And the local classical music station happens to be excellent, to.

I've had a Youtube playlist of the Starcraft soundtrack running lately. Used to listen to a lot of Depeche Mode and Gorillaz while I was painting, but I've kind of burnt myself out on the albums I have. Also, watching Venture Bros DVDs while I work is good too.

Check out my Youtube channel!

If Mina No Nihongo does indeed have an audio supplement, I'm all over that.

I use a video series from the 70's "Let's Learn Japanese". It's great because I can fully concentrate on both modeling and listening/speaking.

Really though fantasy audiobooks are where its at. Just started listening to "A game of Thrones"--totally recommend it.

I can't listen to music while I hobby for some odd reason. Instead I listen to pod casts. If I immerse myself in hobby related things then I'm more likely to have more enjoyable hobby time.

It used to be metal all the time or pro hockey hockey games. Now I just type something in the google video search bar and let it play while I paint. Recently, well in the last year or so, it has been Manly Palmer Hall's lectures on the esoteric that I enjoy the most while painting.

I watch movies or TV series... I do all my painting in front of my computer, and have a large collection... so its cool.

It gives me special attachments to certain models subconciously....

Watching Iron Eagle while painting my land speeder squadron, for example, lead me to say, "CHAPPY!!!" as my land speeder's wingman was shot down.

My opponent got the reference, which was awesome.

After the orbital strikes, Thunderhawk bombardments, Whirlwinds, Vindicators, fusion and starfire and finally Battle Brothers with flamers had finished cleansing the world of all the enemies of Man, we built a monastery in the center of the largest, most radioactive impact crater. We named the planet "Tranquility", for it was very quiet now.

I started a thread like this once, but I will post anyways

I listen to whatever I am painting. I want to really feel the model, or the art. Anything that I do art related I need music to match. I listen to industrial music for post apoc games, Heidevolk for beastmen, Amon Amarth for my 1/75 scale viking army, Basically whatever truly matches. Listening to some ''screamo'' band and painting sisters of battle just doesn't work for me( I'd never listen to that gak if my life depended on it).

Short:

I listen to a theme that goes with the artwork.

I’m a Pink Floyd listener… it’s soft enough so I can stay focused on painting.
I was listening to 40K radio but lately…. It’s lost it’s luster and I’ve moved on…
Just finished two Black Library audio books, actually listened to them both twice because there kind of tied together and I had to go back and catch the similarities. They were Thousand sons & Propero burns… D6 Generation is good to listen to for a change of pace….

Deadmau5 and Daft Punk. Leaving my library on shuffle gets weird sometimes though... I mean I can go from hearing Rollin' and Scratchin' and all of a sudden Strobe comes on...
Aside from how weird the mix gets, I find that the beat provided by them can be fun to paint to.

Life is short. When I'm around, life is shorter.

Usually I've got on whatever I'm into at the moment (go figure). I do have a set playlist on the computer for painting/modeling. Included:

-Tool
- Neurosis
- Isis
- Red Sparrows
- Explosions in the Sky
- Mogwai

Stuff with little to no lyrics. I start hearing the words and lose focus on what I'm doing.

Currently I paint to several Cirque du Soleil soundtracks. I've also done Rammstein, Daft Punk, the Vandals, Disturbed, Lacuna Coil... I wander from metal to electronica often. Cirque's Varekai and Dralion are top of my list currently.

Gorgoroth, Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir, Burzum, Early Cradle of Filth, Immortal, Emperor, Venom and Satyricon, among others.

Don't ask me how I can concentrate while listening to it though...
