Subject: Painting playlist: what kind of music you listen to while painting/modeling
Gorgoroth, Mayhem, Dimmu Borgir, Burzum, Early Cradle of Filth, Immortal, Emperor, Venom and Satyricon, among others. [Some bands highlighted for heresy. ]
Don't ask me how I can concentrate while listening to it though...
Black metal? I love Living Colour! (Sorry, couldn't resist...)
I have no trouble concentrating with black metal. Actually, much of it is pretty atmospheric, especially if your focus is elsewhere. The first rule of making a black metal album is to completely mix out all of the bass, so the droning guitars, barking/hissing vocals, and even the blast beats are all in a similar range that sort of blends together while in the background. Hell, drop the volume low enough and I'm sure you could convince someone that it was a damaged recording of crashing waves.
Personally, I tend to paint/model in concentrated bursts and my music selection usually follows suit - i.e. I listen to something completely different each time, but I listen to a lot of it, each time. Thinking back to my last few marathon sessions (in no particular order), I listened to (several hour blocks of):
-Mastadon
-Joy Division
-Kataklysm
-[industrial web-radio station]
-[hardcore web-radio station (of the electronic variety, before you strap on your bandannas and start floor-punching)]
-for the sake of continuity, I'll just call this "the Greg Bueno mix" (a good friend of mine, who has fronted two bands I really like - the long-defunct Semper Tyrannis (melodic death, only put out an EP) and the very much alive Dystrophy (tech/death/thrash, put out a few EPs, have a pretty sick DIY LP out with most songs up on youtube - metalheads should give a listen ))

@Mewiththeface - when I first met my wife, I played in a post hardcore band. So many musical debates ended with the screaming of "IT'S NOT EMO, IT'S POST HARDCORE!"
Do you still listen to it? What bands and such, etc.?

Usually my iTunes just goes in shuffle mode, but sometimes I pick out an album and have that on repeat for a few days. Right now it's Pink Floyd's The Wall.

I pretty much listen to the same music I would otherwise, including:
Assemblage 23, VNV Nation, Frozen Plasma, Rotersand, Diorama, Covenant, Syrian, Seabound, Namnambulu and Neuroticfish, among others.

I just turn on the radio and listen as I model/paint. Either that or just put what I have stuck in my head on repeat on my iPod. It's currently Beyonce. Very appropriate for Halo to come up when I'm doing an iron halo.
Typically my roommate and I listen to 90s alternative music while painting, though eventually it gets so depressing that we need to switch to techno web-radio or ska or something a little bit more uplifting.
Im pretty eclectic with my music tastes. Basically anything but country or R&B. The Bands/Groups/songs I have in my phone are too numerous to name.

Nice, all of that is definately in my list. How could I paint without the sweet melody of ELO....or vocals of Diamond Dave! And as for Classical, I cant leave home without a little Mozart, Vivaldi or Bach!

...and yet, nothing you posted is punk rock at all. Zebrahead or Rise Against is the closest, and only barely. Also... Skillet? Somebody actually listens to them? I guess when 3 Days Grace got too popular, all the 'too-cool-for-them-now' people flocked to a lesser known knock off.
Skillet... I lol'd.
The only noteworthy band on your list are the Futureheads. I love that their name is FUTUREhead, but their music is so retro late 70s - early 80s pop like the Knack, Tommy TuTone, or the Vapors.
I used to only listen to music when painting/building, mainly Black Metal or Folk instrumental stuff. Lately I've switch to watching movies. I say watch but I must only look at the screen for a total of around 15mins per film. That or listening to the awesome Eternal Warriors Podcast.
I can just imagine somebody sitting there, painting a beautiful falcon grav-Tank while listening to Fergie saying,
"my hump, my hump, my hump, my hump
My hump, my hump, my hump , my lovely lady lumps"
Ahh... BEP... providing the soundtrack to the decline of civilization.
King Ghidorah
I can appreciate different tastes in music, but dissing the BEP is not on...

Everything from Borknagar to Venom. Beethoven to Wagner. MC Frontalot to Wu-Tang Clan and everything in between.
Although most of the time I just have the TV playing in the background, so most of the time I paint to "Two and A Half Men"...which then gives me an urge to paint up a "Tiger Blood" squad!
