It is a classic battle between David and Goliath, involving two of the most epic science fiction movies ever made.

In the role of David is Serenity, the story of swashbuckling space cowboys running afoul of the tyrannical Alliance, set in the future after humans leave Earth that was. As for Goliath, it is The Empire Strikes Back, perhaps the best sequel in cinematic history, following the familiar story of Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, Princess Leia, Chewbacca, and the droids in their attempt to keep the rebellion alive against the cruel and dictatorial Galactic Empire a long time ago in a far-off galaxy.

On April 6, fans will get to decide which is their favorite science fiction movie of all time on io9.com’s March Movie Madness.

This thing where people keep pretending Serenity is anythingm ore than slightly underwhelming movie following up on a very promising but annoyingly cancelled tv show... this thing must stop.

Empire Strikes Back is a much better movie. It's up their with Aliens and Blade Runner as one of the best scifi movies of all time.

And Empire Strikes Back ftw. I liked Serenity more than Sebster apparently, but Empire is iconic.

Absolutely. The prequels were genuinely terrible.

The only reason the prequels get mentioned at all, and not just thrown into the dumpster of film history with all the other bad sci fi movies we've seen over the years is because they were the follow up to the most iconic sci fi series of all time.

I have no idea why people keep talking about Serenity.

Empire should win.

It IS the better of the two, but browncoats tend to be louder and more obnoxious, so Serenity will probably romp it in.

Serenity was an ok movie to a mediocre series.
The only reason it rates at all in my book is that they managed to kill off two of the more annoying characters.

Empire for sure, though kids these days don't care for the OT. Serenity however would make a nice #2 Sci Fi movie. Who could complain with that? Its not like it would be voted down to #49.

I'd vote for star wars. mostly because I tend to ignore that the prequels exist except as a setting in which to roleplay that d20 star wars game.

Besides how did it end up between those two. Both good films but 2001, Alien and Blade Runner have both beat.

Empire Strikes Back is way better. Serenity wasn't all that good.

Empire strikes back. The only reason Serenity is on there is because fanboys are squirting in their shorts about 'murmurs' in the rumour mill.

I remember me and a friend were watching serenity he said 'it's a bit B moviesh eh?' kinda ruined the film for me because it really is watching it objectively.

I too prefer Return of the Jedi, i dont even particularly dislike the ewoks, Apart from the fact they manage to kill stormtroopers with stones and little shortbows. To counter that however there are certain wiser people (me included) who reckon it is Chewbacca's Hijacking of the AT AT that turned the tide. I call it the 'Chewbacca defense (of the ewoks)'

Empire is better scripted (on the whole) and is less cheesy/easier to take seriously but return of the Jedi is just my favourite it just makes the hairs on my neck stand up on end. Seriously though the Emperor is Awesome, the fact his return in revenge of the Sith made the movie pretty watchable says it all. On another serious note return of the Jedi represents the pinnacle of movie Special effects and has never been matched.

Agreed. Serenity was a garbage movie based on a barely Scy-Fy quality show.

And despite being the darkest of the three movies, it is also the funniest of them, thanks to Yoda.
