Hey everyone, this is my first time posting on DakkaDakka, but I have been roaming the forums for a while. Anyways, I need advice on my Ork army list, the points are at max 1750, and to really compete for first place you need perfect composition. Here are the rules for the current tournament I am applying to:

Rule #1: At least 35% of the army must be composed of units taken as troops. For every 2% less than 35%, deduct 1 point.

Rule #2: No more than 25% in any single category other than troops. For every 1% more than 25%, deduct 1 point.

Rule #3: No single model more than 12%, no units more than 23%. For every unit in violation, deduct 3 points. Tyranids receive 1 exemption.

Rule #4: No more than 2 of any single choice in HQ, Elite, Fast, or Heavy. No more than 3 of any single choice in Troops. Necrons and Black Templar ignore this rule with their current codex. For each violation, deduct 3 points.

Rule #5: Model Count – divide the tournament army size (TAS) by 15. If this number exceeds TAS, -1 point per every 5 models (round up). FOR EXAMPLE: A 1500 point army divided by 15 equals 100. If you have more than 100 models in your army, you will lose points. 105 models would lose 1 point, 110 would lose 2, 112 would lose 3 (because of rounding up).

My goal is to not go over the composition rules and lose points, so without any further ado, here is my list: (NOTE: This is the most recent one!)

HQ: Warboss w/ Power Klaw, Attack Squig, Bosspole, and a Cybork Body...(115)

HQ: Big Mek w/ Kustom Force Field and a Burna...(105)

Elite: 9 Burna Boyz...(135)

Elite: 5 Lootas...(75)

Elite: 5 Lootas...(75)

Troop: 6 Nobs w/ Cybork Bodies, 2 Power Klaws, a Boss Pole, a Waaaaagh! Banner, 3 Big Choppas, and a Painboy
Battlewagon w/ Red Paint Job, a Big Shoota, and Armored Plates...(375)

Troop: 12 Boyz (Including Nob) w/ Sluggas and Choppas, a Power Klaw, and a Bosspole
1 Trukk w/ Armored Plates, and a Red Paint Job...(162)

Troop: 12 Boyz (Including Nob) w/ Sluggas and Choppas, a Power Klaw, and a Bosspole
1 Trukk w/ Armored Plates, and a Red Paint Job...(162)

Troop: 12 Boyz (Including Nob) w/ Sluggas and Choppas, a Power Klaw, and a Bosspole
1 Trukk w/ Red Paint Job...(152)

Troop: 13 Gretchin w/ a Runtherd w/ a Grabba Stikk...(49)

Fast: 3 Warbuggies (1 Normal, 2 Wartrakks) w/ Twin-Linked Rokkit Launchas...(115)

Fast: 2 Deffkoptas w/ 2 Twin-Linked Rokkit Launchas and 1 Buzzsaws...(115)

Heavy: Battlewagon w/ 2 Big Shootas, a Armored Plates, and a Red Paint Job...(115)

Model Count: 86
Composition: Perfect

Any Criticism and Comments are welcome, and if you have any questions I will try to answer them to the best of my ability.

NOTE: Further army list changes will be done on the original post.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Greetings.

I got your message, but am not comfortable critiquing your army for that tournament. I think the rules are ridiculous, and I wouldn't choose to attend. The critiques that I do give are geared towards making armies more competitive, more capable, tweaking what they do have...and for a set of rules to come out that scream "TAKE SPACE MARINES OR ELSE"....well, screw 'em.

My Necrons would be hosed - I only have a single troop choice option and....

And honestly, I'm going to rant if I say anything else. Good luck; I hope you get some constructive feedback, but this kind of stupid crap really rubs me the wrong way.

Hey Dashofpepper, thanks anyways for replying, I really appreciate it. I am sorry that you are so dissatisfied with the composition with the tournament. Hopefully next time when they start over, I will be able to get into their discussion of the rules and whatnot and put in some input hopefully balancing out the battleground for the other armies. Anyways, I appreciate the time you took to post the reply.

this is practically stating that horde armis need not apply.. kinda not much you can do though if you really wanna play in it.

I'm convinced the organiser either plays or favors space marines. I cna see DE doing pretty well here too...

but yea your ork list should do ok. to be honest at this point range and given there rules

i'd be fielding ghaz with a group of 9 meganobz in a battlewagon (expensive at around 750ish depending on battlewagon equipment) then another BW with 19 boys and a big mek with kff. plus bikers and deff koptas and some little grots to hold stuff

on mods to your list i'd probably drop one trukk and try to pull off a battlewagon with 19 boys if you can pull it off for the big mek that makes him much harder to pop and more for the kff to hit. also it makes for a larger group of boys which lets your mob ruls last longer

also i should note i liek to see warbosses in mega armor but i don[t know if you can squeeze that in the points (people usually avoid tring to hit an IC in mega armor due to the armor saves being pretty high)

Hey guys, thanks for replying to my army list.

@the_ferrett

Yeah, 180 models means your 63 models over the limit, which is -13 points automatically. The max is 117 models for this tournament.

@G00fySmiley

Thanks for the advice, however if I drop a truck squad and get the battlewagon with 19 boys (I am assuming a Power Klaw nob w/ bosspole is in with this group) and a bare-naked Battlewagon, that would put me 141 points over. This means I need to get rid of something else, which means either 1 less squad to capture and hold objectives or to go into close combat with, lose a painboy in one of the biker nob squads, or lose out in some tank popping power. I can't lose out in tank popping power because of how popular vehicles are in 5th edition. Something I can do, now that I think about it, I can drop one truck squad and one Waaaagh! banner on a squad of nobs, and add 10 gretchin & a runtherd and add another nob to one of the squads with a big choppa, think that would be a good idea?

On a side note about warbosses in Mega Armor, I think it works well with some situations, but a warboss with 'eavy armor is alot cheaper and doesn't take another slot for vehicles, so more boys. Also, the 2+ save is nice but there are almost always hidden power fists and power weapons that can easily go around it. It's a good idea though and I appreciate your input.

I will be at this same tourney. I know these comp rules its the one at GEG right in Sac ?

I personally dont like biker nobs. 285 points for 4 guys is a bit much. Also remember that the Grey knight Codex will be open at the 1750 tourney, so insta death force weapons. Also so many people run anti tank that there are lots of str 8+ weapons.

I would drop them for nobs in a BW or a trukk.

Also @ the anti comp rules people. Ya it sucks we get hit for bringing certian lists. But all the players are affected by it, its not like it directed to a few people. Oh and Rule #4 states necrons and black templars ignore this rule, so necrons are not hurt by it. The rules themselve hurt Necrons more than these comp rules lol

Hey Dakkafang Dreggrim, yes that is the tournament, it's good to see another GEG'er on the forums.

You have a great point about the point cost of nobs on bikes and I totally forgot about the fact that all Grey Knight close combat weapons are instant death. 285 points of just wound four times does seem like a bit of a waste now that you mention it. I did run the Nobs in the 1500 tournament inside a wagon and they performed pretty well, and taking them off bikes will give me more points to spend. I've altered it a bit more so I think I am going to re-post the list with the alterations.

HQ: Warboss w/ Power Klaw, 'Eavy Armour, Bosspole, and a Cybork Body...(105)

HQ: Big Mek w/ Kustom Force Field and a Burna...(105)

Elite: 9 Burna Boyz...(135)

Troop: 5 Nobs w/ Cybork Bodies, 3 Power Klaws, a Boss Pole, a Waaaaagh! Banner, 2 Big Choppas, and a Painboy
1 Trukk w/ Red Paint Job...(325)

Troop: 11 Boyz (Including Nob) w/ Sluggas and Choppas, a Power Klaw, and a Bosspole
1 Trukk w/ Red Paint Job...(152)

Troop: 11 Boyz (Including Nob) w/ Sluggas and Choppas, a Power Klaw, and a Bosspole
1 Trukk w/ Red Paint Job...(152)

Troop: 19 Boyz (Including Nob) w/ Sluggas and Choppas, a Power Klaw, and a Bosspole...(154)

Troop: 10 Gretchin w/ a Runtherd w/ a Grabba Stikk

Fast: 3 Warbuggies (1 Normal, 2 Wartrakks) w/ Twin-Linked Rokkit Launchas...(115)

Fast: 2 Deffkoptas w/ 2 Twin-Linked Rokkit Launchas and 2 Buzzsaws...(140)

Heavy: Battlewagon w/ 2 Big Shootas, a Deff Rolla, and a Red Paint Job...(125)

Heavy: Battlewagon w/ Red Paint Job...(95)

Heavy: Looted Wagon w/ Boom Gun...(105)

This leaves me with 2 points to spare and I still maintain composition. Hopefully the boomgun will help with the 3+ fun out there, and seeing that the winner of the last tournament was an all-foot Space Wolves player, it might help a bit before it gets blown up. What do you guys think? Thank you for posting your thoughts Dakkafang Dreggrim. Hopefully I can make it to the store before it closes and get a game or two in with this list to see how it plays out.

Hmmmmm. I dont run a speed freak / BW list, but I will try my best here for more advice. I also do not use nobs,

I do not think the Looted wagon will be worth it. It AV 11 open topped. It does pop marines, But I cant seeing it being able to fire more than once before its scrap.

Also your BW and trukks will need armor plates if they are going to transport. You dont want a Stun result stopping it and whats inside form moving.

3 PK's with the nobs I think is over kill and pricey. The warboss will be with them. I think 1 or 2 at most. I like big choppas and slugga choppa. Vs things like SS/TH termies you want more attacks before they swing. IMO. My friends only runs one PK in his 5 man nobs and does fine.

I am guessing the burnas will be in one of the battle wagons.

I would drop the 19 man orks down to 11 and give them a trukk. Give one of the BW as a tranport for the nobs. Trukks get popped really fast and you dont want them walking.

So you will have 2 bw, 3 trukks, 3 buggies and 2 kopters

Oh, drop the eavy armor off the warboss and get him an attack squig. I dont run a warboss either, but I know the attack squig is boss.

Just a few thoughts. I run a Kan / Dreas wall army. So all these fast things are weird =) I placed 7th at the 1500 with it =)

Hey again Dakkafang, I remember your army now. You have the really cool big mek with the Kustom Force Field that has the electricity going on inbetween them huh? Also congratulations on 7th.

Yeah, I just tried out the army list last night against two armies, Imperial Guard and Dark Eldar. Both games were kill-point spearhead games and both times the enemy got first. I got entirely wiped by the Dark Eldar flying laser show while only getting two kill points against him, and tied with the Imperial Guard player. The Looted Wagon is a giant squishy target as you mentioned, and that was a bit disappointed but it should have been expected.

The Kustom Force Field worked out amazingly however, and with the ability for the big mek to repair his vehicle, it caused an immobilized vehicle to become a threat once more next turn, which was really nice.

I took your advice and made the changes, and it left me with some extra points at hand. Facing those Dark Eldar realized that I still needed tank popping power, so i grabbed two squads of lootas, both are only five men squads. I also dropped one Buzzsaw off the squad of Deffkoptas because I feel like only one is really needed for popping vehicles. I also managed to get every transport except one trukk armored plating.

To save space, I will just edit my original first post with the most recent list.

Look solid. One last suggestion.

Drop one big shoota off the heavy support BW and 2 grots to add armor plates to that 3rd trukk boyz unit.

Other than that. Good luck in May
