Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Hey folks!

I had a series of PMs with someone who was asking for my advice on combining Orks and Dark Eldar for a team tournament.

-Rules are shared between codexes
-Both players contribute 1,000 points towards a single combined force org chart
-Each player must bring 1 HQ and 1 troop

Within that context, and using Orks and Dark Eldar...my idea was Baron Sathonyx, a KFF Big Mek, warriors in a venom, three units of trueborn blasters in venoms, three ravagers, three units of deffkoptas, and a big mob of boyz on foot for the Baron to attach to.

In short, A mobile permanently KFFed DE strike force, scouting alpha-striking deffkoptas, boyz on foot with 3+ cover saves and offensive/defensive grenades, and +1 to the roll to go first. Sounds nasty and brutal. Then I got to thinking about other combinations. GK dreadnoughts getting 3+ cover from KFF + shrouding as they advance across the field.

How about KFF for IG vehicle spam? My focus is around Orks and Dark Eldar, I'm curious to know what other horrific combinations are possible with a combined force org and shared rules.

Probably work

We never played it that the aura transferred over to the IG, but an IG gunline with SM led by Kantor providing the shoulder check to anything that got too close always worked astoundingly well.

Hmm... What about a big wall of AV14 with Orks and Guard.

Orks take a KFF+Burnas in a BW
IG Take 2-3 Russes (maybe Demolisher) with Camo for Stealth.

The whole Convoy moves 6" a turn, Burnas flame anything that gets close, LRs put out the pie plates...

For troops you can take Trukk boys and Veterans
Elite Slots should go for 2x5 lootas

Maybe take Vendetta for fast attack so you can have some more mobile troops.

Is it worth considering a couple armies that both have "add to your Reserve rolls" effects? Or one with several of those and another who would benefit a lot from it?
Tyranids with Hive Commander and The Swarmlord aiding Daemons or something?

Ironically Grey Knights + Daemons would be pretty damned funny. Servo skulls and the ability to partially control when a unit DS's would be fun not to mention that fact that shunting interceptors could tie up units that might otherwise shoot at Daemons landing close to them.

Grey Knights and Imperial Guard. Traditionally, deep striking units have been an issue for Imperial Guard. With warp quake, that doesn't matter anymore. Add in the fact that GKs are pretty OK as a counter-charge element. Or, even more awesome, imagine a leafblower with scout-shunting interceptors getting first turn.

Vulkan Space Marines and Eldar.

You'd get twin-linked fire dragons, fortuned 3++, the tougher Space Marines compensating for the Eldar armour with the Eldar providing the speed and cheaper scoring units too. I really think this would be the nastiest team. Would have a problem squeezing in troops amongst the HQ's, Fire Dragons and Termies, but my god could it be brutal.

In my experience, playing probably just as many team tournaments as normal tournaments, usually, the two separate armies don't affect each other. In that, the team cannot share a KFF and you cannot cast psychic powers on your teammate's unit.

May want to clarify with the person asking if this is the case or not.

Effects of wargear and rules don't apply to allied armies unless stated. So Skarbrand's Aura of Stella Artois affects everything within range but KFF, reserve role boosts, Fortune and suchlike don't.

I thought both these things and I'd imagine they're the case in the vast majority of team tournaments, however Dash stated otherwise in his main post. I don't think it's a balanced method, but according to the OP, thems the rules in this thread...

4+ with a re-roll to seize the initiative.
Forces the Enemy to re-roll to seize the initiative.

If you win the roll to go firrst there is a 1/36 chance the enemy will take first turn away from you
If you are going second, there is a 2/4 chance that you will be going first anyways.

Then just build the Hardest First turn Attack list you can.

We played one locally here last week, and in our accidental matchup of my Grey Knights and my partner's Eldar.... Well, Psychics on the other side of the table simply weren't happening between the Runes, Aegis and Hood... Knights marched across the board (hugging cover of course) killing things while the Eldar Jetbikes zipped about staying alove (kill point mission :-))

Grey Knights and Orks could get pretty ridiculous solely for the psychic power The Shrouding:

This power is used during the opponent's Shooting phase. If the Psychic test is successful, the Librarian, and any friendly unit(s) within 6" of him, have the Stealth special rule. If the unit is not in cover it benefits from a 6+ cover save instead. This power lasts until the end of the turn.

Now imagine a Kan Wall where everything (including vehicles, apparently) gets +1 to their KFF save.

Bonus appearance points if the KFF Mek and GK Libby are modelled to be holding hands with each other.

Yes, this caught me by surprise too when he said that powers are shared between the two armies.

IE, if it says "All friendly models" it *will* apply to your teammate's army, despite this being an unusual setting for a team tournament.

I didn't make up the rules, just reporting on them.

Hah, that made me laugh. If that's actually how it can work, what army can get the most melta and flame weapons? How about a henchmen army? Warrior acolytes with meltas, and jokaero with heavy flamers, all in Chimeras with double heavy flamers, yeah?

There area lot of combinations to pick from.

Blood Angels: can add fast razorspam and FNP+FC bubbles. they would work well with anyone.

Grey Knights: Librarian has a 6" circle of stealth. Comes in terminator armor, so needs a ride. Adds to any list with permanent cover.

Orks: KFF, good addition for tanks, but you can only get one, limiting its use.

Eldar: Farseer, Guide, Doom, and Fortune are great, and can enhance any unit you want.

=====================

Orks and Eldar Idea

Orks
HQ: KFF big mek,
Troops: Gretchin
Troops: 2x19 slugga boys
Fast: 3x1 Coptas.
Heavy: 3x battlewagons
1000 pts give or take, you can pick what upgrades you like.

Eldar
HQ: Eldrad
Elite: 10x Howling Banshees, Exarch with executioner and counter attack
Elite: 2x5 Fire Dragons in Serpents
Troops: 2x3 Jet bikes with SC and Warlock with destructor and spear.

1000 points depending on serpents and other options.

KFF+fortune is pretty nice.
Doom stuff on the turn that you assault.
Your Orks gain board wide Psy Defence to shut down all of the Shrouding you may see
Banshees can ride in a battlewagon so they get an assault transport.
Coptas first turn assault if able. Close combat/Ramming ignores all of the other KFF/Shrouding you might see.
Fire Dragons can take out all of the heavy armor.
Lots of scoring unit as well, with gretchin and 2x squads of jetbikes.

I'd imagine CSM and IG could be pretty scary together as well.

get some LoTD feel to it, and combining the Large Blast potential of the IG with the positioning powers of Lash would be scary to face.

CSM are also no slouches in close combat and shooting, and they'd be able to in large part cover counter charge duties for the IG while still contributing to shooting .

EDIT: Also combining the battle psycher's leadership shock to Lash's pinning test could be brutal.
