People critisized the Dreadknight for looking like an action figure, but I think that looks even more like one. I dunno, I couldn't justify buying one.

I don't know... considering they have a pilot, and according to the fluff the Pilot is literally using it as his body, I think it makes an incredible amount of sense. Although I could see the desire to see them look more like Wraithguards/Wraithlords, the aesthetic doesn't bug me.

Edit: Anyone got a measurement as to how tall it is? Can someone estimate it?

Being a goodly chunk cheaper than the reaver, and bigger height wise to boot this would likely be a better purchase.
Do I save for a $1500 flight to go to adpticon next year or buy a titan (and other stuff)... not sure anymore.

as a comparison, the revenant is about 12" tall, and the reaver comes in at 16". so i could imagine to the top of fins its about 24" maybe 20-22" to the top of head? price tag wise, its about 700$ canadian, with both weapons and free shipping. personally i ordered one up and ill be converting to the dark side, just like my revenant.

Rules are okay, as usual no titans match up to the power of their imperial counterparts. Warlord has 2 arm guns that are comparable to phantom but it also has 2 warhound guns on its chest.. so quite a bit weaker in terms of firepower

That's why you base it on something heavy, like a wooden trophy base made from heavy wood. The basics of basing top heavy models still apply to Forgeworld Titans.

At cost per point, it's pretty good value for money.
e.g. Cost per point for a Rhino = £0.57, Cost per point for the Phantom Titan = £0.14

Looks silly.
What is a better buy, an imperial titan or the eldar stick-man, talk about getting way more plastic/material/bulk with the imperial titan.

Heathens! I say to all those saying it looks goofy or wrong, it's almost a spot on replica of the Epic version from the early nineties.
Tis Awesome, it is.
Just no way I could afford one anytime soon, hell not sure I could ever justify the money, unless I got a substancial lotto win.
It is a great model though.

Nice model but there's no way to justify spending $1000+ on something that will see more use inside a display case than the tabletop.

It looks even more simplified than the Reverant, couldnt someone just convert one from a 24 inch action figure?

maybe its the color scheme that was used. Maybe darker colors, maybe sometype of clean weathering if there is such a thing. Like the imperial titans or the ork stompas, some of their color schemes actually make them look bigger. I have to agree though, it does look like a big guardian.

When they put it up beside the reaver titan it makes just just want to buy the reaver :( So much cooler looking and while I generally dont dislike how the phantom looks.. its difficult to spend that much money on it
My revenant is good for now.. maybe after I get a reaver or something that looks more badass Ill get this

Things that work:
-3 attacks;
-the AA missiles;
-nice number of structure points;
-the Spirit Stones making the thing survivable (run for it!) at the cost of offense.
Things that don't:
-Indeed a bit undergunned overall, since the secondary weapons aren't titan-class at all. But they -are- good enough for stripping off void shields, which is nice;
-I 3 is kind of weak: sure it's high for a titan, but if you're going to under-gun the thing yet give it decent CC attacks, then also give it a good Initiative so it can differ from Imperial titans by closing to fight in CC.
Actually, a Phantom with a close combat weapon should scare the crap out of other titans, especially if it had I 4. Combined with the spirit stones, you've got a titan that's an actual CC threat to other titans. Given it's invuln save as well. I'd put this sucker up against most other titans in a CC fight no problem. Maybe not an equivalent-points swarm of Ork stompas, though...
...Oooooh, that's a diorama waiting to happen! Now if only I had $4K to spend on such a thing.
|
