I'm curious as to what procedures some might follow as far as construction and painting.

Generally I put my stuff together then I paint. But there was this one time where after priming a model it fell apart and I tried painting it piece/section by piece/section... I had some awesome results.

Build.
Paint.
I like building but not painting as much so it takes me ages to get round to painting.

Previously, I used to always build than paint.

Now, it depends a lot on the model in question and the level of work I'm willing to put into it. I have a bad habit of trying to make every model a GD winner, even rank and file, which I've gradually weaned myself from because it's too exhausting.

For my Kharn the Betrayer that I'm working on, I've painted it in all four parts because it's supposed to be a showcase model and I'm crossing every t and dotting every i, detail wise.

But for the Berserkers I just got in the mail, I'll probably prime on sprue, clip and trim, assemble one, then paint. Esp for MEQs, which often have the guns held in front, sometimes it's better to paint unassembled to get the details on the chest.

First I Make a concept art of them then I start to mess around with them without glueing them.
Then I look at more concept arts and such.
Then I build them and while also cleaning them.
Prime
Paint
Base.
Harder But I like seeing it first before I start painting.

I prime and do most of the painting on the sprue then assemble and finish off the last bits of paint... I know you don't have primer on the places where you detatched the model from the sprue and I hardly ever clean off the mould lines because I am very lazy.

If the mould lines are particularly bad I will clean them off

I've never even HEARD of painting on sprue. How do you remove them without damaging the paint?

Build, glue basing down, spray prime then get to painting. I've painted on sprue before, but it's kind of a hassle.

I like painting on the sprue personally. Prime it, base coat, then details its easier to get the fine details they look cleaner imho. Then the sprue scars just hit them with a dab of paint and done. glue to base and flock of course.

They shall be my finest warriors, these men who give of themselves to me. Like clay I shall mold them, And in the furnace of war I shall forge them. They will be of iron will and steely muscle. In great armor shall I clad them, and with the mightiest of guns will they be armed. They are my bulwark against the Terror. They are the Defenders of Humanity. They are my Space Marines, and they shall know no fear.

I might start doing this. There's a bunch of details with SM bikers that were hard to get to.

The only things I paint separate are shields and cavalry riders.

The general rule is if I can't reach it assembled with my brush, no one can see it anyway.

Used to paint then build but lately I've been building (partially if detail is covered by arms etc) then painting. Having the model together can help with getting the highlights right.

I used to do a full build then paint, but only recently with my SW army for an individual mini per say a gray hunter I'll have the legs, body, head and back pack all put together with the arms and weapon still on the sprew but not attached to the base. Then I spray paint them with the base coat. Then as I finish them through my assembly line of painting and gluing them together. I'm constantly double checking my codex to make sure the squad I'm putting together is legal to play and has just what I want in it.
