Well, it wasn't like the OP wasn't stacking the deck in favor of Imperials with a ton of SM Chapters. To be fair, we shoulda had the Hive Fleets, Craftworlds, Klans, Septs, and Legions to balance out. ____ Actually, that would be an interesting (but very long) survivor game.

Legions were included somehow.... And John, remember those 5,5k IG of yours? Didnt you win too? But go on, start any craftworld / sept / klan / hivefleet thread. Imperium isnt necessary participating, just make sure all of the entrys are wellknown enough to attract people to post. BTW, the imperials prefer the xenos kick themselves, makes things easier.... @ utan: i like your idea: Someone - comb the survivor threads for each of the races, take the winners from each faction and make a 40K armies survivor champions survivor! But how do necrons duke it out? They never got split into Tomb world armies.

I got more Eldars than Guard, and I've had them longer, so I'm more attached to them. A Guard win isn't horrible for me, but an Eldar win would have been better.
I can kick off the uber Survivor later, sure.
I guess for Necrons, it'd be Deceiver vs Nightbringer?

Maybe.
Suggestion:
-2x necron ? (a new codex would help here...)
-minimum of 4 eldar craftworlds?
-minimum of 4 ork klans?
-3 hive fleets of nids?
- but Tau? Either septs ( but this may not equal an ork klan or hivefleet or craftworld ) or a set of 3:
a) Tau cadre ( pure Tau + some allies ) b) Tau renegade ( o shovah ) c) kroot mercenaries.
- Dark eldar ( if they exist, of course...)
=> 17 contenders. All of them got some official coverage, so people may know them.
If we imagine dakkaites remember things from the past, maybe include Dark eldar factions too.
Otherwise just 1 entry. ( a new dex?....no )
Should equal a full set of codices and some campaign books ( 17x ).

It's a lot more than 17 army choices! I cut some to get keep the numbers down, tho. Hard to say where it'll end up.

Yay! Imperial Guard wins!
TBH I was getting a little worried there, but despite my laspe of faith in our ultimate victory we came through in the end.
Imperial Guard. The *real* men of 40k.
BTW, that sounds like fun, but then wouldn't we have to include things like regiments and such?
And then there are all the DIY SM chapters and DIY Craftworlds. AND the DE Kabals. AND the ork clans. AND the Hive fleets. AND the different SoB orders. Should we try to limit the amount of 'tribes' one can have in thier race up for a trophy?
(Like only 4 Craftworlds, 4 Sm chapters, 4 regiments ect.)

I didn't limit it to 4 Craftworlds or Chapters. Tho I did cut out a couple Guard options.

I'm just saying that there should have been a MAX of 4 per race.

For races with no more than 4 good options, a max of 4 is OK. For other armies (e.g. Chaos, Eldar, Guard), a few more is nice.

Scratch that, White Scars, Crimson fists etc don't have thier own codex. They should have been rounded up into a single 'Vanilla Marine' choice.

But, all those people who voted for Spacies may have decided to vote for Guardsmen instead. Or vote DOWN some other races.
Really, it kinda works both ways.

No, it doesn't, not really, because the SMs don't start at zero. They started with 80 points, and had to be pushed to zero. To do that, others gave up 80 votes that had to be dedicated vs SM.

How about a dedicated "candidates in survivor threads and how their starting value affects the thread" debate in its own discussion thread?
I think EF has it correct.
When a OP starts a 40ksurvivor with armies based on codices, its only fair to hand 1 slot to every codex actually sold by GW. If the intend is armies based on fluff, it would be just the OP 's decision what he/she will include and what not.
Could be me, everyone else assumed 40k armies = everything ever published but this doesnt change the fact that the OP is in control of the entries and therefore is able to mix and match as he/she pleases.
Would any marine entry stand a chance to survive the first day if it would be the single marine choice and several other armies got up to 4 entries?
IMO not. The marine haters would vote them down.
And remember the Imperial guard faced off 2 xenos at once, and still won. Had the eldar close to extinction before.
Plus the assassination of the astartes received the righteous fury of the imperium and none can withstand that.
