well this teaches us why i should have better learned me some good latin when i was young....

OMG still alive! :vryhppy:

After 7 months I'm back - or at least I'm trying hard.

As you can see here, the ATHENA is still not finished


The Hercules still requires some finishing activities


But at least the ZEUS is still king of his shelf


So, to get back into the hobby, I decided to re-start my activities with a re-design of this little scene

It will now be a stand-alone piece with the working title "Rear Guard"


So first I chopped up some sisters parts


Then got me a new Brother


I used the molds from HirstArts I purchased last year for the Tar'Akoona diorama and poured a lot of bricks


out of these I built the base for Rear Guard

So you can see the topic is that Sister Emilia and Brother Berthane are the last defenders of the door to the launch pad, enabling their companions to make the escape...

Once the base was finished I created a muzzle flash for Emilias bolter


and then primed everthing


Then I applied all the base colors to Brother Berthane


and after a lot of shading and highlighting he looks like this


In comparison to the original


this morning I was about to start with Sister Emilia when I realized with shock that I mounted a wrong hand!!!!

OMG
So I quickly tore her apart again


But since I don't have any fitting sister pieces anymore, I had to sculpt a new arm for her


I think it OK and will work out.
Well, that's as far as I got, so now I wait that the ProCreate cures.
I hope you like this new activity.

Sometimes when I see an old blog with new posts, i cringe to click on it in fear of necro. Glad I was surprised to see more craziness coming from Klaus's hands.

Glad to see you back, Klaus! The new mini diorama looks sweet! I remember when you did the first take on the termi and SoB.

Hurrah! It is truly is Xmas cone early with your return! Looking forward to seeing how the rest of the diorama shapes up.

I know, fluff wise this is a very unusual setting and not everyone will like it.
In the end the Spacies from the "Crimson Guardians" chapter are guarding a sacred world, while the Sisters from the "Order of the Golden Bolter" are arriving on this world to investigate on rumors of heresy, just as "an attack" is happening and the Correlis Base is overrun.
Sister Emilia and Brother Berthane have volunteered to buy the others time to escape and rescue the sacred relics...
I will not add any enemies to the diorama, so it will be to the observers fantasy to make up the rest of the story

Well, it took quite a while for the PC to cure

So I was only able to prime it black

and apply the base colors

At this stage the model looks really, really crappy.
But I have to remember that Brother Berthan wasn't looking any better at this stage and hopefully I can get a good paintjob done here too.

I will try some lightning effects from the muzzle flash and a little glow from the blue power cords. The yellow part will all be NM-Gold, plus lots of shade...hopefully

I definatly like the idea of no enemies on this diarama, especialy the fact that you have those (nicely made) shots coming from their weapons to prove that they are in fact in battle

Wow, this one was really hard!
More than just once I was tempted to throw the model off my desk. For some reason the model simply didn't accept the colors well...hmm, sounds strange...regardless of what I painted, somehow it never looked good.
2 times I was ready to throw her into a "Simple Green" bath to strip the paint.
Well I fought the urge and "bit my way through".

Here you can see my "cheat" photos. I took them right after the build with a little flashlight simulating the neon light, to give me a good impression of the lights and shadows.



And here is the final Sister Emila.

I took no step-by-step photos, as I never knew if what I've just done would work out. But here we are now.



After I was done (and I literally mean DONE) with the sister, I started with the base.



Not all colors are applied yet.
I still have to do the little control panel, the lettering on the door (Lauch Pad 5), the neon light itself, and, and, and



Everything will be toned down by several washes of Badab Black and Grisiphone Sepia.



And after that will be the actual shading and working out the light areas from the neon light...

the blast effect looks very good on the sis... tho a daylight pic would bring forth the true amount of work you did even better i think...

the dio already looks very good after these basecoats...those tiles are just fanatstic!

Very impressive, Klaus. May take a few days to get through it all but the first three pages have me hooked.....

The sob is great, but I'm really digging the freehand on the floor. I am in awe of folks who can draw/paint like that!

I really like it, but for two small suggestions. I think it'd be a little more dramatic if the rest of the chamber was more in shadow, so that the illumination of the boltgun flash would be a little starker. The other thing is that the osl on the walls doesn't let enough of the original wall color through, so that it looks less like a flash now and more like paint. Of course, it really is a fantastic scene

How about some closer shots?
