Another tease . Still, thanks for posting... looking forward to the "final reveal" oh so soon

I figured there might be another set of Scourge troops, since they seem to take over hosts or the like? Good to know about the plethora of models available, although I really can't imagine there being many more that we haven't seen already in the initial release!

DiabolicAl wrote:Ok, i have received a message from Dave. i wont be talking about the rules but what i will be talking about at length are the models.

Now i know you've all seen the stuff posted on here but that is nothing compared to what is to come. As i recall every faction has about 54 models and you've seen hardly anything yet... There's infantry, heavy infantry, tanks, AA, heavy tanks, APCs, Dropships, Heavy Dropships, Gunships, Fighters, Bombers, recon vehicles, walkers, heavy walkers (thats just off the top of my headand it all looks the nuts,)

One thing i want to mention is the quality of the casting, it is excellent, i was blown away by the detail on all the models. Its ultra crisp too, Dave mentioned there is little to no flash on the resin as they are cast and everything looked amazing. not just the big stuff either, Down to the smallest models the detail held up. Its a real indicator of what CAD and a talented designer can do. The vehicles the dropships are designed to carry actually fit on the models on specially designed points which is very cool (bet you could do some great stuff with magnets)

The infantry is metal not resin and these were hand sculpted, these look great too and there's some awesome looking elite scourge infantry that i dont think have been revealed just yet. Again the detail and variation that he has managed to get on these tiny models is great considering the scale, as you'll have seen from the pics.

Another thing is the material itself, i've not seen anything like it,. Not only does it hold the finest detail, its really good quality. Not brittle, it's lightweight, it flexes and has memory return so wont go out of shape(no broken models in carry cases) but will hold up better in heat than finecast (although excessive heat is obviously not recommended) but amazingly, IT BOUNCES. im not kidding, Dave bounced a shaltari gate off the table and it was fine (even with the feathery bits sticking out of it). The only thing broken was my mind as it imploded. I honestly think this is going to change resin model production as we know it. These are without a doubt the finest gaming grade resin models i have ever seen. The amount of interest the models have generated speaks for itself.

Speaking of which, the game we played i used UCM and dave said he was using the models that didnt quite make the cut quality wise as it didnt matter if a mishap happened. Damned if i noticed, Dave had to point out any defects and even then i would have not recognised them as such really, if they are any indication of the quality then everything for sale should be nearly perfect with only minimal preparation.

The only other thing im not too sure on is i think he said there was no release agent required so no need to wash the resin (but i cant be sure on that, its a bit hazy so i could be wrong/thinking of something else)

Two things i ask:

1. Do NOT take this as official from Hawk Wargames, these are MY recollections and MY descriptions.
2. Please do not press me for details on the rules and the game. I signed an NDA and even if i hadn't Dave is a top bloke and this is his baby, his call, i dont want to inadvertantly hurt DZC by giving out info that may have changed.

I'm willing to bet that's 54 models total, not 54 per faction. We've seen 34 so far (a little more than half). Still extremely cool!

I think this was one thing Dave mentioned, as being a small problem with early casts. I think it has been resolved. Should be playing again soon so with any luck will have a little more info and fresher recollections

Now you've got me thinking, still im sure he had 'at least' 50 different casts with him and he said there was a lot more.... there was a lot of excitement that day looking forwards to another bite....

54 each does seem fantastically high, but... 54 total seems low. Assuming each faction has roughly the same number of models, there should be close to 60 total. Listing confirmed units, those seen in images, and those reasonably assumed to exist, I get 15 models for PHR and 14 for UCM. My counts are as follows:

PHR:
??? Hvy dropship (Seen)
Neptune md dropship
'Triton' Lt/strike dropship? (Presumed. Possibly seen in the BoW video.)
Athena air superiority fighter
??? strike fighter/bomber/ground attack craft (Presumed, based on the presence of the UCM Seraphim)
Enyo siege/hvy walker
Odin hvy walker
Phobos AA walker
Janus scout walker
??? 'Main Battle Walker' (appears in the BoW video, possibly multiple variants)
??? Shield/command walker (seen in the original images from Salute unpainted and in the BoW video, appears to have some sort of shield device on the left hull/torso/arm, and a higher profile dropship interface ring)
Taranis MLRS
Juno IFV
'Siren' heavy infantry? (based off accounts from Salute)
Immortals infantry

That's 15. Means that there are only 6 units we have not gotten an official preview on. Of those, only a couple are unnamed or unseen (the strike fighter on my list is the only unit that is entirely supposition). Things are not any better for UCM, as they have fewer units on my list, with the only units 'missing' being a light dropship, AA vehicle, arty, and heavy/elite infantry.

All-in-all, I think the 60 total model count is low. Even if the light or strike dropships double as gunships, there are still a few holes in the armies even with my lists, as they leave each army with only 5 air/spacecraft (3 dropships, 1 of which may also be a gunship, 1 fighter, 1 ground attack), 1 each of dedicated AA, arty, and infantry-carrying AFVs (although the earlier Scourge HGT might be an infantry carrying tank, a la the Merkava) and only 2 types of infantry. The numbers just seem low to me.

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

54 can account for a bit of everything at release. Hawk Wargames didnt want to part release the game, however expansion will follow. they may start with light medium and heavby in each category, but it wont thend there.

I can buy that there are 54 models at present (infantry stands and variant tanks counting as one model each). its actually quote a lot really, Dystopian Wars started with six models per faction, battleship, cruiser, frigate, bomber, carrier and fighter, twenty four models over four factions. Dropzone Commander starts with over double this.

I am still happy for Hawk Wargames to prove me wrong and provide 54 models per faction, highest, average or whatever.

PHR:
POSEIDON Hvy dropship (Seen)
Neptune md dropship
'Triton Strike dropship A1 has enough space to transport one vehicle
Triton Strike dropship A2 has what seems to be an infantry docking cargo

Athena air superiority fighter
??? strike fighter/bomber/ground attack craft (Presumed, based on the presence of the UCM Seraphim) not a single indication, I thing the Triton performs a dual role here, without being a dedicated strike fighter. Pretty much like the Juno is an IFV while the other factions have APCs.
Enyo siege/hvy walker
Odin hvy walker
Phobos AA walker
Janus scout walker
MENCHIT 'Main Battle Walker' (appears in the BoW video, possibly multiple variants)
??? Shield/command walker (seen in the original images from Salute unpainted and in the BoW video, appears to have some sort of shield device on the left hull/torso/arm, and a higher profile dropship interface ring) That unit has the same walker chassis that Enyo and Odin have.
Another unit with the Enyo/Odin heavy walker chassis and some kind of large gun on the right side
Taranis MLRS
Juno IFV A1 mounting a battle cannon
Juno IFV A2 mounting dual miniguns
'Siren' heavy infantry? (based off accounts from Salute)
Immortals infantry

That's 17.

Completed your list for you.

I detect the next units for the UMC

Albatross, Heavy Dropship
Condor, Medium Dropship
Raven Type A, Light Dropship with infantry docking cargo
Raven Type B, Light Dropship with one vehicle docking bay
Falcon, Gunship . Looks like the Raven but with added miniguns.
Archangel, air superiority fighter
Seraphim, Strike fighter
Sabre, MBT
One vehicle with Sabre's chassis but equipped with a long minigun cannon like AA weapon
Gladius, Heavy Battle Tank
Scimitar, Tank Destroyer, uses Gladius' chassis
Wolverine, scout buggie with rocket pods
Wolverine, scout buggie with AA minigun cannon
Bear, APC
Kodiak, Armoured Command Vehicle
Colonial Legionnaries, light infantry

So around 16 units and no indication of a second infantry unit or artillery unit for the UMC.

Still, having 15 units per faction from the start is really great, More than enough IMHO.

So far directly from Hawk and as far as I know they don´t want to rely too much on one distributor in the beginning.

Looking at the German market and how some "distributors" handle (read:neglect) their licenses, that´s not a bad idea.

Glad about all of this, as I'm definitely hoping this game will be readily available in the states once it gets released, at least for ordering purposes!
