Time for an update (a loooooong overdue update).

First off, the Leman Russ Tech Command Tank is COMPLETE!

Pics (Note-You'll have to click on the image and zoom in for them to clear up):

I managed to get some vehicles base coated/primed with Krylon:

And finally, I finally got one of these little babies. I just wish it came with long legs instead of the short ones. But overall, I'm happy.

That is all for now. And as always, more to come!

Hey ORM- welcome back! Nice armored squadron you've got going there! I love the Oldhammer Dread- in my opinion 'way cooler than the new stuff (and from when the Guard could have them, to boot!)

Rock on, man!

Sorry that I haven't had much time for hobby-related stuff. Hopefully, things will start picking up again here soon.

The only thing I have to share is a couple of items I picked up a while back, and some progress pics on the Mars Pattern Mk IIc Rhino I'm working on.

Here are said pics:

Okay. I'm back. Lost my mojo for a while, taking a break from the hobby. But it's back in full swing. And I'm ready to kick ass.

First thing I want to share is this little project I'm working on. It started life as a Happy Meal toy from Mickey D's, hawking a Disney/Pixar "Cars" movie for kids. My ex's grandkids left here after she moved out some years back. Now, it will be repurposed for service in the Emperor's Most Honourable Imperial Navy. I'll post more pics of this project when it's complete.

Since starting back in full swing, I managed to get a long overdue project finished: The Mk.I Predator. The pics are not the best in the world, but I'll post some better pics here real soon. Probably when I finish the Rhino (which is nearly done). Here are the pics with a bit of fluff:

"Special Notes Regarding The Use Of Predator Tanks By The Emperor's Black Watch"

Report Sigma 93245761098, Inquisitor Ramus Clearwater, Conclave Tempestus, Ordo Hereticus

"Dated: 4773456.M41"

"The following is a brief historical summation and current status of Predator battle tanks on the Black Watch TO&E. This report is EYES ONLY: PRIMUS LEVEL SECURITY CLEARANCE. Unauthorized possession of the original and/or copies, or unauthorized viewing, is in violation of Imperial Law, carrying the highest sanction by the Holy Ordos. The penalty for violation is DEATH"

"During the height of the Great Crusade, equipment diversification was not as extreme as it is today, whether by regulations, law, policy, or tradition. Much of the machinery of war often associated with the current Adeptus Astartes was in widespread use amonst the vast armed forces under the Emperor's command during that Golden Age if the Imperium. The Corps Logisticae (forerunner of the Departmento Munitorum; then part of the Office of Administration for the Armada Imperialis) had supplied tens of thousands of fighting vehicles such as the Predator, Rhino, Land Speeder, and Land Raider to the Excertus Imperialis and the Imperialis Auxilia (the hosts of the Imperial Army and its auxiliaries), in addition to the more familiar and iconic machines of today's Astra Militarum (Imperial Guard) such as the Leman Russ Battle Tank, Griffon Mortar Carrier (known as the Helios during the Great Crusade and Horus Heresy), Rapier, Basilisk, etc, etc."

Thus it was with the crack formations that made up the special "Task Force Explorer Storm". Regiments, battalions, and cohorts, mostly drawn from the Strife Epoch Regiments ("The Old Hundred"; gene-modified troops that served the Master of Mankind from the time of the Unification Wars) and the elite Solar Auxilia, in addition to the thousands of more humble soldiers and regiments of the Imperial Army, Imperialis Militia, and support personnel. Even war engines rarely seen, even among the Imperial Army's elites, such as the Fellblade and Falchion, were present in small numbers.

The Task Force missed most of the fighting during the troubled times of the great Heresy, returning to the Sol System only after supply runs never arrived at pre-arranged points, astropathic communications being spotty at best, and small clashes with scattered bands of troops from the Legiones Astartes. This alarmed Storm's commander, Lord Knight-Commander of the Imperium Robere Marius, who made haste for the homeworld of Mankind. However, the Task Force joined fellow Loyalist forces in pursuing the traitor Legions and Imperial Army formations during the period known as the Great Scouring.

In the centuries since that time, due to loss of production facilities, knowledge, and restructuring of the Imperium's armed forces, many armored fighting vehicle types eventually became exclusive to the most elite of the Imperial Adepta. The newly minted Imperial Guard were re-equipped over time to better meet their tactical and strategic needs.

The special operations force known as the Ordo Imperator Nigrum Vigilate (Order of the Emperor's Black Watch in Low Gothic), operating out of the 19 world fief of Lord Marius, known as the Holdfast Imperialis in the Segmentum Tempestus, continues to maintain some of these units in their TO&E, either as relics or newly produced units as needed. There are more held in reserve stasis storage in the so-called Liberty Caches, located on the capital of the Holdfast, Homestead. But the exact numbers are unknown as of this writing.

The Predator battle tank, in todays Black Watch military dogma and arts, is considered a mechanized cavalry fighting vehicle. Operating exclusively in the Watch's elite independent Armored Cavalry Regiments (ACRs), the Predator is the primary punch of these units, moving fast and hitting hard in what is known as "shock and awe" tactics. The Predator is also useful in the traditional roles of the "Armored Cav" troops and squadrons, such as screening, reconnaisance, and (when necessary) playing the role of cruiser tanks in breakthroughs or breakouts (uncommon, since the heavy cavalry's Leman Russ variants are preferred for that role)".

"The primary variant in Black Watch use is the so-called "Destructor" version (all patterns and Marks; with the majority being Deimos Mk 1Cs and Mars Mk.IVs), with the autocannon primary ("main gun") and lascannon secondaries as the primary punch. However, there are a few rare examples of the "Annihilator" variant used for additional anti-armor and anti-hardpoint killing power. Most the the currently active and deployed examples of this type are of the Mk IId "Skarath" Pattern, with a smattering of current era Mk IVb/Mk IVc machines and Deimos Pattern refits. The Skarath and Deimos Predator Annihilators are considered relics, and highly prized for their long history and excellent battle records. It's considered a high honor to be selected to crew these vehicles."

"The example pictured here is a rare relic Mars Pattern Mk. 1 Predator in service with the 9th Squadron, "K" Troop, 1st Cavalry Battalion, 10th ACR named "Justus Extremis" during Operation: PHASE NOVA, the 7 year long deployment to Al Ken'sir to suppress yet another periodic uprising by the desert tribesmen, and their mountain tribal allies, against the rightful and legitimate rule by our Undying Lord, the God Emperor of Mankind."

"The "Justus Extremis" is armed with the usual loadout for the type and pattern of it's heyday. The autocannon and lascannons are of older patterns produced on Mars in the early stages of the Great Crusade, with six smoke grenade dischargers to provide additional defense."

"The earlier patterns of Rhino and Predator had fewer roadwheels, and a lower hull profile. It's load bearing, speed, and ease of maintenance are somewhat better than the current pattern. However, it lacks the modern patterns' redundancy systems, and has a less robust powerplant/drive system."

"Note the four lamp headlight units, equipment/handhold railing, and foreward mounted hedge cutter (which also made for a nasty anti-personnel weapon in it's own right)"

"Rear view. The older patterns were equipped with a tail lamp system, somethink lacking on current units of this type. The Predator MK1 also has installed from the Forge two equipment/tool boxes on the rear fenders. Unfortunately, the side mounted lascannons prevented use of the side hatches"

"Please note that this report is not intended to be an in-depth review, but a summary. More detailed reports can be accessed, with proper clearance, within the Conclave's archives."

"In conclusion, it is troubling to some within the Ordo Hereticus, that such an independent large scale force, equipped with advanced technology (past and present), is allowed to operate with such autonomity. But any attempt to reign in Marius and his cohorts has met with dead ends, and outright interference by powerful figures within both the Ordo Xenos and Ordo Malleus. Fortunately, the loyalty of Lord Marius has been beyond question and a great asset to the agents of the Golden Throne. However, loyalty aside, his goals and methods, historically, haven't always aligned with that of the Inquisition in general, and Ordo Hereticus specifically. This has a tendency to cause some......issues. Thus, the Holdfast Imperialis, and it's mysterious Lord, bears continued watching. The closer the scrutiny, the better".

"End of report"

Well, I got some Leman Russ bits in from Ebay sellers. I had a spare turret and weapons laying around. Why not build a Leman Russ on the cheap?

And presto! A (nearly complete) Leman Russ Exterminator!

I stumbled upon a couple of Leman Russ Conqueror turret kits online. Unfortunately, the turrets don't fit on the current plastic Leman Russ hulls. So, a bit of coring with a hobby knife was necessary.

On another note, this is a new kit I bought from GW. I have to say that I'm not a fan of the new boxes. Reminds me of the annoying boxes from the 2nd Edition Citadel 40k kits. I prefer the heavier stock boxes with an actual box lid.

The next Predator to build. One of two 2nd Edition Skarath Pattern Mark IId Predator Annihilators I found on Ebay.

Speaking of Predators, I did promise some better pics......

Onto the completed Mars Pattern Mark IIb Rhino built as an Armored Cavalry Support Vehicle (ACSV).

Buddy shot with the Mark 1 Predator ACV. Something of a size difference between the old and later kits:

I also finished my Imperial Navy radio staff car project. I was inspired by the Ford Fordors used by the British in North Africa.

Well, that is it for now. Will update as soon as possible.

Those old Predators may be a bit small, but they look cool. The iconography/stenciling on yours look superb, and the weathering looks great, too. I also enjoyed the story to go along with the explanation for your tanks. I am all in favor of bending and breaking rules, as long as their is a cool story written for it!

Thanks, guys! Glad you're enjoying the show.

I did manage to get the Predator base coated-slash-primed. The humidity actually cooperated for a few hours so I could do it.

I also managed to get the first Conqueror mostly assembled. I will add the extras as I paint it.

Thanks, everyone. It's always appreciated.

Just wanted to drop in and post some progress shots of the gun truck. The figures are for size comparison/scale.........

Started some detail painting on the Pedator, as well.

And now for a little something extra. An old Tootsie Toy police armored car, being re-purposed into an Imperial Navy Security/Patrol Vehicle.

I used sprue and blood sugar testing strips to seal up the huge open areas around the wheel wells, and to give the illusion of an armor protected drive/transmission system.

More to come.

Quick update.

A while back I purchased a Forge World Thunderer Siege Tank. It's been cleaned, assembled, and gaps filled in.

I also found this on Ebay for cheap.

Assembly completed, and a GW plastic pintel added. The smaller parts are fragile and difficult to cut off the excess resin without breaking the parts. I had to cut some corners and improvise.

Then I base coated/primed the model with Krylon Fusion Gloss Black in the rattle can, and applied the first undercoat of Citadel Zandri Dust.

The M35 truck kit came with some extras, including two cable spools. To add some detail, I picked up some craft beading wire from the dollar store. The result:

The Gun Truck itself. This is the progress up until this point. Don't mind the miniature gunner. I just stuck him there for reference.

I also found another MOBAT. Bought it on Ebay, complete except for the missing machine gun piece on the smaller top sponson turret, for a great price.

The Imperial Navy Vox (Radio) Van Project. Still a work in progress.

And finally for tonight, the state of the gun truck as of 10/8/2019. Pics:

Anyway, that is all for now. More to come......

Nicely done details on your gun truck- the radio set, cable reels, rifle leaning, all very realistic. Good find on the armored car as well- hard to make out in the picture, but is that Dingo?

You've the beginning of all the components to run a rep/sup convoy on a Main Supply Route (MSR) in Iraq- lead off with the armored car (the Slammer), followed immediately by the gun truck (the Teeth), then several supply vehicles with the odd up-armored HMMWV for teeth and finally another armored vehicle in the rear.

Off the MSRs, an MRAP goes first, usually with a broadband transmitter spraying at 600 and 900 MHz to jam any cellphone actuated command detonated IEDs and VBIEDs.

Great work showing here!

Thanks! I'm glad you like it.

And you've hit close to some of my ideas. In my head canon for this campaign, the Navy will start using gun trucks for MSR duties over the course of PHASE NOVA ("The Al Ken'sir Uprising" to Imperial Savants). But they first "revisited" the idea of gun trucks because too many Commodores serving as Masters of the Fleet (Regimental Advisors) were getting wasted by the tribesmen via ambushes, suicide attacks, and VBIEDs. That didn't sit well with the desk monkeys at Bakka, and the brass at Segmentum HQ ordered the Battlegroup Holdfast planners to "take matters of security into their own hands". After some brainstorming, and historical research at Lord Marius's archives on Homestead, they settled on arming and armoring trucks to suppliment the airfield security vehicles already being pressed into service (after being fitted with anti-mine and anti-IED equipment). The units, vehicles, and tactics worked so well, the Imperial Navy was given the primary responsibility for security of not only the Master of the Fleet, but the Astropath and attached Imperial Guard Master of Ordnance.

Over the course of the operation's seven years, nine Masters of the Fleet were KIA. The number would have, in all likelyhood, been much higher without the gun trucks and their heroic crews. The Navy in the Holdfast would make gun truck units a permanent fixture in ground transportation floatillas and squadrons.

As for the armored cars, the toy is just a generic armored car toy from Tootsietoy back in the 1970's (I've had the damned thing since I was a kid! And it always turned up in a box and was never thrown away! ). The resin model is a Cadillac Gage V-100/XM-706 Commando as used by the U.S. Army in Vietnam (the USAF version had an open top).

Time for an update.

Be advised, that the pictures posted here were taken two weeks ago, and I'm just getting around to posting them now. Been a busy month, with the cooler weather, fall holidays coming up, and the doctor's appointments having been scheduled all clustered together over a four week period.

Anyway, on to the topic at hand.

First up, I found these on Ebay. I ordered three packs of them, for a total of nine coolers. They're resin replicas of the Thermos brand coolers made/supplied under government contract during the Vietnam War. I figured one would look good in the guntruck. Great to have for bottled water, perishables, and beer. Just don't let the Commisar catch on to the last item.

I managed to get a nice day before all the rain to prime/undercoat the Thunderer Siege Tank.

I finally assembled, primed, and undercoated the first two Rogue Trader-era Dreadnoughts I lucked up and found online. On the left is the Furibundus Pattern ("Fury"). On the right is the Contemptor Pattern ("Chuck") with the short legs option.

I also started on the red basecoat for the Furibundus ("Fury") Dreadnought.

The Predator's progress, up until the time the photo was taken.

Still making headway on the VW radio van conversion.

As for the guntruck, with the exception of the Thermos cooler, all of the extras are pretty much done. Just need to add the weapons and crew next.

I've also been piddling along on the first of the crew. After him, four more to go.

Next, on to the generic armored car. The basic painting of the vehicle is complete. Next will be details and extra add-ons. And I really need to come up with a designation for it.

The V-100 Commando. I'm going to slap on one more layer onto the hull and turret. Then, I'll start on the tires, wheels, and drive system.

And finally, the Taruca Lautaro's painting progress.

Well, friends, that is it for now. More to come.

Nice work! You've got all kinds of projects going on, and no of them 'little'- keep knockin' 'em out!

For the scout car I nominate 'Argus'- if my memory of Greek mythology holds, wasn't this a many-eyed (1000?) god or monster? Maybe too close to 'Argo' though (which was named for Argus) and folks would be wondering why you named a reccy vehicle after a ship...

Well, it IS the Imperial Navy after all.......

You may be thinking of Argus Panoptes (Argus "All Eyes"), the giant servant of Hera from Greek myth who had a hundred eyes, and that ol' Hermes layed the whack on under orders from Boss Zeus. In any case, much thanks. You just named my armored car. The 'Argus' it is. Fitting, since this is a base security vehicle, and Argus Panoptes was charged to guard Io under Hera's orders, because Zeus couldn't keep his dick in his pants.

On to tonights update.......

Remember this?

Started working on it for the hell of it and finished it last week. Took two weeks to get this project done.

And for another "Blast From The Past"......the TKS project, that has long been on a back burner, is finally done.

And finally, the Taruca Lautaro Counter-IED Vehicle is DONE! YAY!

Well, that is it for now. More to come.

Things like that tempt me greatly back to scale modeling... Very nice model from not exactly the easiest kit. One thing that stands out are its tracks. They look so rusty as if it stands there from the end of the Polish campaign. All that junk around it, from horn to smoke grenade launchers really helps to blend with gaming crowd.

Nice looking projects, all! You're building a very balanced and realistic shorebase security element- if you ganged up with Kid_Kyoto and his Arbites, and Shas and his column of armored might, they'd have to invent a set of rules beyond Armageddon for you to play!

I also build for the fun of building- it's really my one creative outlet, at the moment. Either one day I'll find a group I can make (and like) or not; in the meantime, we can share our efforts here.

Oldraven's Little Projects Thread Update: Covid-19 Edition!

Howdy, one and all!

Despite Corona-chan and Nurgle teaming up to spread their love and blessings, the Emperor's truly loyal servants never tire in the pursuit of producing badly needed material for the front lines!!!

First off, here is my next Forge World project: The Valkyrie Sky Talon tactical light lift transport:

The long overdue new box packaging to protect the parts. Rather plain, to be honest. But it works and that is what counts......

(Friendly reminder. To better see the images, click on them!)

The Sky Talon resin parts.......

Here is the 'Next Big Thing'. A Revell Germany Snap Tite 1/100 scale HALO Pelican. With cool light and sound action!

The Imperial Navy Vox (Radio) Van is nearly done. Just gotta add the wear, weathering, and final matte coat with a bit of Krylon.........

The same deal with the Mark II Skarath Pattern Predator Annihilator:

Well, folks, that's it for now!

You've been bogarting reporting out on your progress for too long- lots of goodness here! I really like the HALO ship- I need to figure out how to kitbash or scratchbuild that in 28mm. The Pred is great- nice work especially on the hull numbers, very realistic. That's an item that too many of us overlook or just don't do, in our hurry to get a project done. But adding a realistic number of hull identifiers and unit images to a vehicle is really the difference between a 'toy' and something you would really see in the field.

The Navy Radio Van reminds me of the signal direction finding vehicles the Soviets employed in East Germany (and other countries) in the 1950's. Great job and a nice expansion of a little-developed arm of the Imperium- The Fleet.

Keep knocking 'em out!

Yeah, I know. I've been taking it in spells. But I'll get something done, even if it's wrong.

Time for another lockdown jubilee update.

I got this in a while ago from Antenocitis Workshop. I love their stuff.

Not really a whole hell of a lot to this one in terms of parts. The biggest thing will be the painting.

The Forge World Sky Talon. I've been basecoating this by hand. Hence, the slow progress. But I'm nearly done with that, so I started working on the engine pods.

The engine exausts. Still a WIP.

The progress with the detail painting on the Argus.

.......Aaaaand the V-100.

On to the Forge World Thunderer Siege Tank. Here is what I have to show as of last night........

And finally, the Revell snap-tite UNSC Pelican. The base coating has taken forever, since I'm doing everything by hand (same deal with the Sky Talon). But I've managed to get some of the detail painting and transfers knocked out in the process. Pics of the progress to date.

Well, that is it for now. More coming ASAP!
