In the new book Fall of Damnos (feat Necron and Ultramarines) there are some interesting references and art work in the center pages.

The art shows a necron warrior with a new gun design, a new face, new body, new limbs and new shoulder pads (basicly all new but still easily recognisable). Use this address to view it -
http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-i___hEjkxKw/TZ8XKhkS8jI/AAAAAAAABeg/xAK_VLMj1Oc/s400/Damnos%2525206.jpg

The references i mentioned earlyer inclued "punching through his carapace armour with no resistance". Now we all know what that carapace armour save is, could this indicate an armour piercing decrease?

All this stuff is speculation and probably not true but if you look in the 40K rule book you can clearly see the new(ish) dark eldar raider and armour styles so the art work could be quite soild.

Again probably nothing but i could mean something, just wanted to get this out there.

Its the artist. Check out the botched job he did on the White Scar book's cover.
People thought that the horrible drawing of a thunderhawk was a storm raven.

Very organic..? I think he took the term 'living metal' and went with it.

I do not want this, hopefully it will just be art. Well drawn, but not a good example of Necrons.

If they get re-done they should look like this

Not too big a fan of either. Cool artwork but the second seems too hobbled together as if they were the art of Dean McCoppin from the Iron Giant.

This is good.... isn't it?

Personally, I freaking love both styles. The current models need to be thinner, and taller. Somewhere between their current size and say, a tyranid warrior size. About nob size I guess.

I wouldn't give the art any credence. I actually like that artist's work, but it's pretty clearly only based on 40k designs we actually know, and doesn't stick to them too closely. The writing of them punching through carapace armor is pretty meaningless too, since according to the book, lasguns will tear through just about anything.

Well, it's not like Gauss didn't punch through Carapace Armor beforehand right?

Lasguns on "normal" settings will tear through flak armor, not carapace or power.
On higher settings or overcharged, a lasgun will blow through carapace and damage power armor.

The art is just art. Ya really need to read through the book though. The fluff of Necrons has changed and is much more dynamic. Here is a few more things I got from the book.
*Super Spoiler Warning*

The next imperial book is SoB. Though a xenos book is next. The next xenos book is either Tau or Necrons. My money is on Necrons. I just finished reading "Fall of Damnos" by Nick Kyne. Supposedly it is a sneak peak at the new Necrons. New units read about in book was a Necron Arc Obliterator, a centiped like MC that split into three creatures, a Flayed Lord and of course pylons. The book was very precise in describing these units though only hinted at a tomb stalker. The Necron lords are described as a noble house or court and are tiered as such. They scheme and conspire against each other for position and power. A cryptic oversees all tomb functions and wargear. Flayed Necrons and lord have the Flayers disease. Necrontyr which cannot adapt to their new bodies and go mad wanting their flesh back. The book had one screaming at a space marine he wanted his face back while stabbing at him. Kool stuff.

I'd say that's the artist's rendition.

If I was a guessing man, I'd say Necrons will be like Tomb Kings. In space. With some of the naming conventions in the codexs as of late, I'd say the originality bar isn't set terribly high. We have vampires in space, wolfmen in space, sooo... yea.

And I hope they're the next codex- been wayyyyy too long for this army.

It looks cool and all, but I would attribute it more to artistic license than an official redesign of the models.

I dont think the artists get much info. Think they are left to do thier own thing, authors are a different they get more info a bit more controlled on how the races are portrayed

I too credit artistic license. If you look at the Codex, the art for Tomb Spyders also looks significantly different (and better).

While the art is really cool and I'd love for the Necrons to look like that...I doubt they'd actually end up looking like that. I'd say its just artistic license, but if the new look is actually like that then I will be very happy.

I doubt there will be a full-on redesign; would be kind of a waste of the Necron Warriors plastic kit, which has aged fairly well. Likewise with the destroyers and Monolith. That would basically be relaunching Necrons as a brand new range, which they've done for Dark Eldar and will be doing for Sisters; three complete relaunches in a little over a year would be a bit much.

No, they don't. Read any CS Goto book with anything Eldar in it.

I thought they were meant to be the modified Thunderhawks that carried the White Scars bikes

I believe the rumours of new Immortals and Destroyers, Dead Men Walking clearly describes the Immortals as being able to shoot over the heads of the Warriors and they're no-where near tall enough to do that now! Lords are also described as being much taller than they are now.
As much as I'd like a re-tool of the Warriors (mostly to make them easier to cut out and put together) I don't see it happening or being particulalry worthwhile - I'd like to see plastic Wraiths though, but if they stay at roughly the same stats they are now I think the best we can hope for is a new metal model

Yeah i just finished it too, posted this thread just before i got to the bit about the 'royal court' and all the rest. I got over excited about the art as i love the look and didn't see this anywhere else so i thought why not put it up and thanks for the discussion. I guess you are probably right about the artistic leisence which is a shame.

The new lore is epic but you spelt 'cryptic' wrong it's 'cryptec' and you forgot the destroyers mental sickness which makes them lose all emotion except the lust to destroy, hence the name. This will aparently happen to all 'sentient' necron eventually. Imortals now possess human brain power but warriors (turmed raider in the book), wraiths, spyders, scarabs and flayed ones all have base or no emotions (flayed ones are discribed as animals in the book).

In the end i would heartily recomend 'Fall of Damnos' to any Necron/Ultramarines fan.

I liked Necrons better when the Necrons didn't deign to speak, I think. First off, it kind of demystifies them a little. Second, the living are essentially the food of Necrons, to be harvested. What could they possibly have to say, in such a situation? When I sit down to eat some McDonalds, I rarely take the time to explain to my Quarter Pounder with Cheese my motivations or feelings for doing so.

I like that they now speak, it allows for more character to be put into the background and if you want to make your own character background its much easyer. It also helps books about necrons to be more involving.
