Thats it people me any my friends are atempting the largest campain ever ( at least to my knowledge ) ....... we will be haveing custom characters, renforceable planets, stratigic assets on the table, space combat, balenceing of older codex's ( at least bring them to the 5th ed world .........that means you necrons ) and much more and we will be useing the large starmap for a campain map ......but the problem is we havent really worked all the details out yet soooooo.......yea............i just have a few comments questions and converns about this and am asking my fellow dakadites for there 2 cents to help us begin ( and ultimately end ) this greatest campain the west cost has ever seen i already have roughly 23 people interested in this and i really want to get this ball moveing by the end of july .... yea i want some quality stuff not the kind of campain that lasts months we are acualy going for maybe a year of two with this one . sorry if i seam blunt but i need to start working on this and im really dedicated to my work but i need a method of attack so to speak
i have an idea of how im going to do the following but would greatly appreciate any outside help

as for space combat i was hopeing for something really simple ( aka we dont really wana spend more money on a game )
my inital idea was
once a movement marker comes within range ( didnt want to say ship because not all races have "ships" ) it may fire its main weapons
the way i intended on this is
roll the special dice that has a !,25,20,5,10,15,
thats how many " lance" weapon attacks go off this turn against a target the roll of the ! means something terrible has happened and you can shoot at all
the armor value of the target is 14 roll for penetration as normal
after you get 5 or more penetrations roll on the special damage chart ( that i will have made ) with a single dice (thats right every 5 pens you get 1 dice)
glanceing hits are treated the same way as a pen but with a different chart
ok thats my idea anyone think its to bad
oh and thats for the allies chart will gep it bookmarked

Be sure to get both apoc books, you're gonna need them.
Also, I second planetary empires.
Be sure to have some sort of story as well as this makes the games a lot more fun and interesting, it also allows for special objectives or games.
When creating your own special characters I don't have anything other than just be sensible and remember to give it a sensible points amount. You could try by starting with a normal IC as a template: so if you want a special Space Marine Chapter Master then start with the normal chapter master entry and suit him up the add your special rules and add a certain amount of points fro each rule.
As for planetary defences and the like, I have no idea to be honest you could try something like you get 2 points to spend for each win, 1 for each draw and 0 for each loss and start with 10 or something along those lines, this could represent the armies gathering supplies from the wreckage and stuff.
Then just be sure to have some sort of special missions where you gain extra stuff for winning. Example: fight for a space station, winner gets 4 points to spend on planetary defences, 2 each in a draw.
Also, be sure to update dakka with how it all goes as this souns really interesting, wish I could join in.

i had another brain storm with my other " admin " and we came up with a character development system
everyone has a character at the beggining of the campain
this character is a standard rank and file trooper ie scouts, guardsman,guants,power armor spacemarines/greyknights,guardian,fire warrior ,ork boy ( you get the picture )
this unit takes the place of a unit in his squad that may carry a heavy or special weapon as any normal unit my
however you roll for his attacks differently ( or independently ) as models he kills he gains the points that the slain model cost in his codex
foo example lets say sparky the guards man here manages to kill a space marine with his lasgun he then aquires 16 points to use in his character development
witch includes useing IG as a template , upgradeing to become a veteran guardsman or evena marbo type character, getting special rules such as relentless or even
custom and unique rules , getting custome equipment ( if you want your guardsman to weild 2 thunderhammers by golly he can have them )
after your character kills so many models he aquires a special name that you assin so then sparky the guardsman becomes V'olt the guardsman with thunder fists
asa for a movement i have the large star map and we already have a movement system ready just need to adjust the map so it fits our campain

^ I don't like that idea. It would take hundreds of years for Space Marines of any type to reach Captaincy; and decades for any Fire Warrior, Ork Boy, Guardsman or any other comparably weak unit to be promoted/grow bigger/get remade in the Hive Ships.
Just started them off as HQs, as you would normally, but give them lower stats.
Like Space Marines would start off as with Sergeant Stats, but with +1 wound and would have access to all the options a normal Sergeant does. As he levels up he could get more options opened up to him, IE Terminator armor, for great victories, and increase his skills at the same time with special rules/increases in stats.
Warboss would just have -1 WS, A, LD, S, T. Start with a Nob profile, basically, but with higher T and Wounds.
well dont space marines generaly take hundreds of years to make anyways lol jk
but in all seriousness this campain was made to take a long time and i dont think it will take as long as you think to make a custom character
in this manner ( granted it will take time ) but i think my friends will bepl
we are not playing apoc games as most of us dont have the money/time/effort to assemble an army of the sort
and as for your necron fandex have you play tested it at all and how were your results

Well it's gone through about 6-7 editions, so I've changed it considerably from the first edition. I have play tested it quite a bit, but the latest edition is significantly different (and more balanced, I hope) than the previous one.

I'd love to see his face, unless he's the stoic type in which case it wouldn't really work . Ah well, it's a good fandex, if I say so myself, and I've put a lot of work into it.
However I'm going to update it at some point, possibly today, so keep watching that thread for changes.

its in the sense of how they would construct things i mean would necrons ever stay in one place to renforce a planet and make it an HQ or would they be constantly moveing

this is such a ripe off of dawn of war soulstorm campaigan
but it so a very good idea.
with the necrons you could expst them to make lots of evil structures tha kill anythinglike in the video.

There isn't a whole lot of working room or originality to be developed in a Warhammer 40,000 campaign that includes every single race.
Hopefully some of the stuff in there should help you.

I like this idea. maybe each faction should have bonuses depending on who they are (eg- IG get to pick 1 troops choice in the army to get the 'send in the next wave' special rule for no points cost (it's usually restricted to platoons with chenkov in them), or an ork army can regenerate 2D6 wounds of models in 1 troops unit to represent fungal spores planted earlier hatching into orks, picking up the weapons of the fallen and joinin' in da waaagh!!)

I like this concept and it should be fun as long as everyone is willing to understand that this will take a long time, and then return back to emphasize long time.

Tyrannid worlds are dead there is nothing left worth conquering. Necron worlds may be attacked in order to stop the Necrons' rising.

Here's my tip- the simpler the better. Many people dream of the mega-campaign to end them all, but those campaigns usually taper off due to the ridiculous scope. Do a standard campaign first and then expand it bit by bit.

Agreed. Listen to him. Seen the best of campaigns start and end only a month in because it was too big. If you try it though I wish you all the best. Good luck!
