Interesting. I do disagree with you about not taking the first turn. A smart player will know what use that free turn to either spread out and minimize your deployment, or set up a defensive zone with terrain and vehicles. This is especially true if you're playing grey knights, you do NOT want them to get the first turn and use the warp quake power.
Although some players might not do this, and some armies wont be suited for this sort of thing, I disagree that you should always take the first turn.

i would have to agree with soulx you should always take the first turn but also if your opponent gets the first turn you can get the upper hand by having something to base your moves off.

I went and formatted the article for the OP, I wanted to read it but my eyes wouldn't cooperate with the original formatting - hope you like it better than the previous incarnation. If you hate it you can always go back and change it around.

I agree with this partly. There are some armies (DE, Eldar, Grey Knights) where obviously granting them a free turn is sub optimal. There are others (Drop Pod anything, most gunlines) where it probably is an advantage or a neutral happening to give them first turn. It's probably not a real hard and fast rule but tends to vary depending on the army you're facing. I do think the article is doing a disservice to suggest that going second is always optimal though - that's assuredly not true.
