I was wondering if you where able to start the game with all your unit in reserve, also if can't and you had squads in reserve and all your unit on the board are killed would you lose ?

Yes you can, but depending on how they enter, but the right Tau army can basiclly beat you before the game even started.

Peter: As we all know, Christmas is that mystical time of year when the ghost of Jesus rises from the grave to feast on the flesh of the living! So we all sing Christmas Carols to lull him back to sleep.
Bob: Outrageous, How dare he say such blasphemy. I've got to do something.
Man #1: Bob, there's nothing you can do.
Bob: Well, I guess I'll just have to develop a sense of humor.

Yep. French GT right? Guy had like 50 something kroot. Spaced 2" across the entire enemy board edge.

Viola. Your reserves can't come in. You lose.

You can start your entire army in reserve (a popular tactic with Eldar builds).

You don't lose the game. There can be some unusual circumstances, but you genarally have all your remaining reserves come in on turn 5 (skyleap as an example of unusual examples for reserves that may be off table after turn 5)

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Thanks for the feed back thus far, am working on an army concept where all or most my army starts in reserves and deep strikes in; form the input so far this would be a "legal" tactic, right ? my early attempts where shot down by my group, and they said it was in the rules that you need to field at least one guy, I ask for proof but alas to no avail, so I though I would prove or disprove it here.

There is no rule that requires you to start with something on the board, which is why they were not able to produce it.

There is also no rule that states that you lose if you have nothing on the board. The game plays out until the end of the last turn, or until one side is completely wiped out.

I suspected this was the case, and I thank you all for your responses, Good gaming to all.

There is a rule that states a unit that cannot move in from reserves is destroyed(whole unit is lost, even is 1 model cannot fully make it onto the board).

BRB FAQ:
Q: What happens when a unit arrives from reserves but is
unable to completely move onto the board? (p94)
A: The unit is destroyed and removed from play.

So as soon as all units are made available from reserves those units are then destroyed(in the case that none can move in, for any reason) and the game ends with a "wipe-out"

This is my Rulebook. There are many Like it, but this one is mine. Without me, my rulebook is useless. Without my rulebook, I am useless.

That's in the case where there is no way for those units to move on, yes. It doesn't mean that the game ends the moment you have nothing left on the board.

In this case, the original question was about a Deep Striking army, so that's not as likely to be an issue.

I wasn't disagreeing with you(quite the opposite); i was joust pointing out a Case where you technically do not even have to play the game(or at least not past turn 1) in certain situations.

Technically not true. The game will always last until the end of the last turn, only then does the wipeout rule come into effect. Not much difference but it can come into play with resurecting units and the like.
