Subject: New GW store in Orlando, FL???

So, I got a phone call today from a lady at GW asking if I was interested in a job at a store that will be opening late June, early July in Orlando.
She said the store would be a one man store open about 35 hours a week and they were calling people in FL who had put in an application to see if they would be interested...
Anyone else in FL receive a call?? I have a phone interview with their HR department this weekend but the most I could get out of the woman was that they are in talks with getting a lease and the store will be up and running no later then early July.

There are already like 6 game shops in Orlando, I don't think we need any more. Especially a GW. Automatically Appended Next Post: Found it on Career Builder.

Has there ever been a GW store in Florida? I left FL in 2001 and do not recall one ever existing.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby. |

None that I know of. Atleast you got endless gaming where you are which is a sweet store from what I heard.

No, closest one is in Tenn I think. I checked once, where ever it is its over 400 miles from Tampa.

I'm glad one is opening in Orlando as that means I can buy FW books and not have to order them.

I don't understand why GW chooses to saturate certain areas with multiple hobby centers. I do understand why they choose densely populated areas, but it all seems rather odd. For example...
Baltimore = 9 hobby centers
Seattle = 9 hobby centers
Los Angeles = 10 hobby centers
Chicago = 12 hobby centers
NY City = 1 hobby center
Philadelphia = 1 hobby center
The largest city in the USA and largest city closest to NYC each have just a single hobby center. I must be missing something in the equation of determining where hobby centers open up.

Their retail arm has always been weird.
We have three in the area I game, and I rarely go into them because of their crazy hours. W-Su 12-8 or something. I've had a few times where I've tried to go in and they are closed due to the one guy getting sick so I've just stopped trying to go to GW.

Cool I am in Florida in September....might try to get hold of some stuff and take advantage of the exchange rate.
Can anyone in the area recommended a store where I can get a reduction on list price - i.e. 10% so that I can make bigger savings.
Also whats the going rate for a ork battleforce in the US? Just so I can compare.
Sorry to hijack a little bit lol

NY used to have 4 Upper West Side, Upper East Side, Queens and the Village, all but the Villiage closed after 2-3 years.
My guess is that NY is a tough market for GW because people have small apartments, few have houses and we take the train. All of that makes mini gaming a bit tough. Trust me, I did it for 4 years.
Plus NY has a lot more distractions than some other cities.
they might do better in Westchester or LI.

We had one in Miami in the 90's. Though competition for forced them to close. I imagine a nerd haven of Orlando will do the same to this GW store. Why go to a GW store when you can pick up the same thing at another store at 20% off.

I don't see any reason to support a GW store in Orlando when there are several good stores in the area (other than Capt. Karuther's reason of buying FW books).
Support your local game stores! (You know, if they're good).

I agree with the other posters that if you have healthy FLGS around you, support them and not the GW store. GW gets there money anyway you go, the difference is more access to other things other than GW. The only downside is maybe access to some GW product, though seeing how much is moving to direct only, even this isn't as compelling a reason.
Living in Houston, I have 3 GW stores less 15 to 20 minutes from my house and a 3rd less than 15 minutes from my office. However, all, but one store is small and the hours very limited, and there are basically no indie stores near me as a result. So when I got a bug up my rear to check out Warmahordes and FoW, I quickly found out that I would need to go halfway across town (Which in Houston is pretty significant with traffic and how spread out Houston is). Needless to say, it dampened my enthusiasm significantly.
So having a GW store (or a bunch of stores) is not necessarily a good thing, so be careful for what you wish for.
To the OP, I hope the opportunity turns out to be one worth pursuing.

Not my patch but this /\
GWs are handy as they almost definitely have stock of most things. So short notice urgent purchases fine, but almost all other reasons make FLGS better.
If you already have 6 stores then i'm sure GW are just doing their bit to up their presence in a gamer friendly area. They'll attract more rookies then in a few years hopefully there will be even more 40k players to play.
I comment as this will be one of the first new stores (I think?) since Tom Kirby went to GWUS. Presumably we will start to see a new US store strategy.
