lets see'em boys.....Thinking about giving orks a go and I am really interested in these guys. I do have a question though, in the clan description it talk about how they keep lots of large creatures that the gretchin are fed to, any one ever tried converting the spiders from the fantasy line to be killa'kans? What else would fall under snakebite themed conversions?

Ive seen people use terradactyls for deffkoptas. It looked pretty damn cool. And they used kites or something similar for the stormboyz. Really if you just mix The Flintstones with Orks, youll probably get your ideas flowing nicely.

You should use the Arachnarok Spider in place of a battlewagon. I know that is what I am doing...eventually.

Use fantasy orcs for your ork boyz, use the heads, legs, bodies and choppas/spears from fantasy, with sluggas + shootas from 40k boyz.

I would go with trolls for kans, boar boyz for bikers/nob bikers, spiders as battle wagons (or trukks)

Personally I'd use the Lizardmen Stegadon as a Battlewagon. I know the fluff says they're seen as primitive even by other Orks standards but I still think they'd have things like normal Deffkoptas and such they would just cover them with trophies and try to make them look bestial. So with a Battlewagon I'd put like huge horns on the front with maybe some stegadon armor plates strapped on here and there.

Oh and the Lizardmen Stegadon has a howda with sections of wood that have like parchment stretched out in between it so you could take those and put them in place of a trucks doors and paint it like it's cured animal hide. For a Deffkopta I would use the normal one but I'd get ahold of like some kroot or kroot ox heads, make them look like skulls and stick them on their with some feathers and have it be like the pilot tried to make his kopta look like some big bird that's just how I'd do it though

What about Boar Chariots for Trucks and then use the gaint spiders for battlewagons.

I'm using Boar Boyz as Bikerz. Cyborg parts, heavy guns strapped to the sides, chain choppas and bionic bits help...

For counts-as Kanz, how about Ogre slaves/mercenaries, carrying big weapons and controlled by grot 'pilots' sitting in backpacks?

I was strongly considering doing that before GW unexpectedly released the Kan kits.

Now theres a cool idea. Make sure you "wire" into their brains so its nice and mind controlled

Well how feral is to feral for snakebite orks? I mean could I just pick ups some feral orks from fantasy and say the bows and arrows are "shoots" and use that? Or is that not 40k-ish enough?

And a word on the ogres...instead of going "master blaster" style why not replace the head w/ a little gretchin cockpit w/ a pilot and some levers?

Given the short range of an ork shoota, i doubt many opponents would complain if you used archer orcs to count-as shhota boyz. Personally i'd do something to the arrow ends to represent some sort of explosive, i.e. it's more than just a sharpened bit of stone.

The WHFB feral orcs are _very_ feral, they don't even use metal - I think that concept would be too hard to replicate in 40K, especially more powerful things like rokkits or power fists. But you can still have lo-tech feral Orks, who are happy to use looted metal but have no great metal technology of their own - such an army would have a slight Loota feel, but I don't think that's a bad thing.

Re the ogres, your idea would work fine for ogre-sized/shaped robots, but I don't think so well for actual ogres - the grot would be replacing their head and half their chest cavity while keeping the ogre alive? - sounds difficult even for a painboy

Good points, but isnt the "lore" behind orks that if they think it works...it works, some thing to do w/ a psychic ability?

Id say using bows and arrows wouldnt fly. How can you claim to get AP from a stick and stone?

To me, that's more a psychology thing, e.g. Lootas believe blue paint protects them and so behave accordingly, and just maybe their resulting bravado has a combat effect. But believing that hurling a rock will have the same effect as a rokkit? - I don't think the rock will do much more damage than any other rock.

But I agree that orky Psychic abilities can be used to help explain some of a feral army's fightyness, especially if you use lots of Warpheads and write yourself some fluff re the Warpheads using their abilities to mutate their army's primitive weapons - hey, it's no sillier than some of the GK special ammo rules

why do you want to know? huh? HUH?

for snakebites the old ways are da best. probably refering to the days of whfb so if i played snakebites instead of evil sunz i would use nothing 40k exept for maybe guns.

I think WHFB models would be great sources for bits, but Snakebites are ol' fashioned, not feral. Right in the codex, it says that a number of the grots herded into battle are used to man Big Gunz. Yeah, they wear leather and warpaint, but they still carry sluggas and choppas to battle. Using cyboars for bikes is definitely fluffy and characterful. If you want to do beastie-based vehicle conversions, I'd just advise you to tech them up a bit to fit into the universe. Stock fantasy models on a 40K table seems more of a cop out than a brilliant army concept, to me.
