I think you can disable avatars/sigs under options but is there a way of blocking individual avatars/sigs?

your best bet for blocking certain avatar/siq without removing every avatar/siq, is using the ignore function.

Use Firefox / Chrome and use Adblock or similar.

@Fil, you can block individual avatars that way? (never used adblocker etc).

Yes. The adblock addon adds a context menu selection when you right click on an image or similar, and it allows you to block a particular image, or all images from a common source etc etc.
