I've had this question for awhile and i'm just getting around to ask it.

For every Codex there is a star named Character that just beats the rest or has done the best for you.

Which named character in every codex is the MVP of that codex and why?

Crowe,

Unlocks the best troops you can get and is still decent in CC. all while being priced cheaply

even if he fails to do ANYTHING in the game, he's worth the points.

Self-proclaimed evil Cat-person. Dues Ex Felines

Cato Sicarius, after force feeding Captain Ventris a copy of the Codex Astartes for having the audacity to play Deathwatch, chokes to death on his own D-baggery after finding Calgar assembling his new Eldar army.

Eldrad for the Eldar codex.
Vulkan for the normal marine codex.

In my opinion.

Eldrad, like the Farseer, is more of a force multiplier, but better at it than the normal Farseers for not to much added onto it. Vulkan is also a force mulitplier, which improves wargear which seems to be needed the most lately due to the supposed meta.

Generally a character who adds onto the army as a whole will be more important and seem better than one that just bashes face well, except for Orks.

Don't forget 2+ invulnerable save for his waaagh and 7 WS6 S10 attacks on the charge. Having said that I'm partial to Grotsnik, FnP for 30 boyz, yes please! I really like Zogwort too, 2+D6 poisoned attacks that always wound on a 2+, Warphead powers and the ability that gives a 50% chance to turn your Vulkan or Eldrad into a squig. While it's hard to pick an MVP no doubt Orks are like the '96 Bulls when it comes to big powerful names.

Thus, After having thus successively taken each member of the community in its powerful grasp and fashioned him at will, the supreme power then extends its arm over the whole community. It covers the surface of society with a network of small complicated rules, minute and uniform, through which the most original minds and the most energetic characters cannot penetrate, to rise above the crowd. The will of man is not shattered, but softened, bent, and guided; men are seldom forced by it to act, but they are constantly restrained from acting. Such a power does not destroy, but it prevents existence; it does not tyrannize, but it compresses, enervates, extinguishes, and stupefies a people, till each nation is reduced to nothing better than a flock of timid and industrious animals, of which the government is the shepherd

Black Templars are gak outta luck I guess. Meh, I'll say Grimaldus, as he got a friggin' Cathedral in his head and still lived. Although Helbrecht won the space-battle for Armageddon.

I was going to out Grimaldus, but I was unsure if Emperors champion would be considered a character. He is unique is he not? There is only one Emperors champion IIRC.

Technically there's one per Crusade, so it's not a specific marine at all times. Oh how I wish GW would give us a "Sigismundinor"...

Technically again, there is one per fighting company.

Baron Sathonyx for DE. I know he doesn't really stack up to most of the other characters mentioned here on paper. He makes hellions troops, not that big a deal, hellions are a unit that I consider not tournament quality. He grants stealth to a unit he is with, again an ability of medium quality. Where the Baron shines is from his ability to give the DE player a +1 to his roll to determine who goes first. All armies benefit greatly from choosing whether to go first or second. It is even more important to a DE player to get to shoot first. DE armor is so fragile that getting a chance to shoot and neutralize some of their enemy's firepower pays dividends. For that reason Baron Sathonyx has a place in any DE list IMO, and is my choice for DE MVP.

Vulkan is INFINITLY more useful and productive then the super expensive beatstick Calgar is.

I would rate Pedro above Calgar and Vulkan above Pedro.

Darnath Lysander is my MVP. Bolster defenses is always helpful... most of the time, and he's a beast for CC.

Stubborn always helps as well.

And I've also heard good things about Vulkan and Marneus as well.

Sod that - let's have Sigismund himself coming back! Hell, if Draigo can survive centuries in the Warp, who's to say that big crazy siggy can't do something similar?

I love Lysander, and he is insane in close combat for only 200pts, but I would still rank vulkan higher for his massive army bonuses he confers. I would take twin linked meltas and flamers and THs over stubborn in a heartbeat.

For the GK codex Coteaz>Crowe.

Crowe may make purifiers troops but Coteaz makes henchmen troops.

Henchmen are literally the most flexible unit in the entirity of 40k.

And Coteaz is pretty good for 100 pts too.
