I have spent long time trying to come up with a concept for my army, a force I am working on right now.

I loved the idea of marines of the traitor legions retaining their allegiance to the emperor. And as soon as I got the chance to dig out some information on the stories of Garviel Loken, Saul Tarvitz, Iacton Qruze, and of course Nathaniel Garro, around which I decided to build my legion around. In Eisenstein story, it is said that there were around 80-90 Death Guard survivors after the commind to Terra, sufficient enough to form a Chapter, most men were from Death Guard 7th Great company. which seemed good enough for me. Throwing in some antique mythology, and tyingg it into Nathaniel's Terran heritage, it seemed appropriate to use the Medusa Gorgona myth, hence the name, SONS OF GORGON, resilient as stone to any demonic, alien or mutant. It is even possible that the Grey Knights were formed later basing on this chapter, Who knows?

Still extencive work mus be done on the fluff...

So, right now I will be concentrating only on the modeling aspect of my newly forming Legion.

The most sacred of all places for a gamer, the work station of course...

and now to the modeling....

the captain.... simple conversion. It's a AoBR captain model, simple head swap and clipping of the neck eagle.

Initially two squads were completed in the cutting and gluing, and gs work stage. There is one of them.
Squad Azrael.

I have been always fascinated with the WWII flamethrowers, such power concealed in but a small tank of fluid. Now having a professionally twisted and flourishing imagination. what could science fiction setting of Warhammer offer in their vision of the gloriously devastating and noble. I had my answer as soon as I was exposed to the wonders of the 2ed box. a Pepsi can.

A PEPSI CAN, how was that little soda can supposed to harbor limitless devastation so well described in GW's promo literature? As beautiful as the new minis of the 3d ed were, the dreaded soda can stayed.

So I thought to set thing right.

Having listened to some advice, and thinking the idea really cool, i began to mercilessly glue pouches to the models. Some where on the internet, a fellow modeler had made a "Pouchy Space Ops Space Marine force", needles to say, I could not resist.

I also came up with the idea how to differentiate the squad sergeant and second in command, for when i want to combat squad them, not like it's the brightest idea in 5th ed it would seem, still... Just to add some visual variety. I decided long ago that in a futuristic setting, a back banner is just ludicrous, Thankfully I found a solution, and then sank as soon as i saw that GW were already imploying that same concept widely. Oh well...

Sons of Gorgon Captain Aximand Sextus

The Idea behind the bases was a desert setting, and as you can see here, some rusted mesh an land mines make a nice area terrain setting.

now all I have to do is build around 40 more of thease

Sergeant Azriel. Note the chapter symbol on left shoulder pad.

[/img]http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/1295812676/gallery_52083_5542_16756.jpg[img]

with some marines from his squad.

Flamer from the back.

Some time, on the gathering of the conclave of great generals, it was decided that each marine would be responsible for maintaining their own armor ( as far as their physiology will allow) and also for maintaining and painting the chapter and personal heraldry like this marine....

But little did I realize, that not all marines were equally gifted in the arts, so we were stuck with this Michelangelo's masterpiece as part of the squad... they call him brother Smiley ever since .....

more to come soon......

The rear mascot is not yet done, so do not be too harsh on your judgment.

Gunner

Can any of you say what I should do with the sculpted Medusa emblem on the Rhino chassis??? I can not decide on weather to keep her blended with the green door, or do something different, ideas any one?

what do you think about the vehicle "nicknames"

Rhino I
Rhino II
Razorback/Rhino
Whirlwind
Predator
Land Raider Crusader/ Redeemer
Land Speeder I
Land Speeder II

Here are the "nicks" I am definitely going with:

Rhino I- Lucky Lady
Razorback- Shoo Shoo Baby
Land Speeder I- Glamour Gal

"Nicks" that i have in mind, please note, that the nicknames have to go together with a pin-up girl art in some way, so has to be able to translate from motto to visual.

Come and Get It
Anytime!
Bombshell
Lucky Seven
Thunderheart
Avenging Angel
Terran Pride
Lucky Strike
Strawberry Bitch
Classy Chassy
Black Betty

as examples...

The tank crews were fun, my favorite is the russian style tank crewman...

The Land Speeder

Both speeder gunners are magnetized, so when it needs be, I can swap a Multi-Melta or a Heavy Bolter... Heavy Flamer and Assault Cannon are magnetized as well. I initially wanted to have the crew in green armor, but then decided against it after.... So they will need a refinish.

The Whirlwind Missile Launcher I'm really happy about.... the tank itself is on a wait so far... I got it from a friend, who cared little on how he assembled models, so there is a lot to clean on it....

The glorious Land Raider Crusader/ Redeemer pattern, also magnetized to accommodate both patterns from a single kit.
It was magnetized using this thread from Da Rolling Waaagh http://www.heresy-online.net/forums/showthread.php?t=25556

When I thought of building around 50 bases, doing them in the same manner, would surely claim my sanity. So i thought that adding a theme to each squad's bases seemed like a sensible option. As the Assault Terminator's bases provide the largest surface to work with, it seemed a natural pick for doing Tiberium crystals from The Command And Conquer franchise on them.... Now I know I have been bragging for a while of doing it, so here is the evidence that it was pulled off. Although I think adding some grain around the crystals is a must...

At the beginning of this thread, I was planing to use the Assault on Black Reach tactical squad for a conversion project for Sturnguard. Just slapping bolter scopes on them would not do the trick in my mind. As always incorporating the pouch theme of the army was used here to tie them in with the rest of the force, and some extra details I thought appropriate.
There are only 9 of them in the squad so far. I just can't come up with what to do with the sergeant yet, but sureli I'll manage it some time soon. I also while working with them managed to invent a unique recipe for the base green, that will help to keep them finally uniform.

[/img]http://www.bolterandchainsword.com/uploads/1302399342/gallery_52083_5542_75078.jpg[img]

I also thought it would be great to take a army shot as it is at the moment. The shot lacks some units, that's because they are in parts right now...

I also need help in finding a good home for a $100 worth of orks, a boost for my force laugh.gif or beginning of an army for my brother... in any case, right now they are a practice army, but not something I want to expand, so If you think of any one interested, shoot me a PM, and let me know....

Well that is going to be it for now...Hope you guys will enjoy this rather large update Brothers, and don't be humble to give any C&C you might have... Any advice is appreciated.

Emperor Protects.

Holy crap. If I was half as good at freehand as you are, I'd have all my symbols done by hand, and have a 200% better army.

Everything looks awesome, I love the Tiberium bases and the painting is just right for the Death Guard offshoots.

Keep up the good work!

Mate - followed my nose here from the comment you left on my marines (thanks, by the way), and... wow - just... WOW! - these are fantastic.

Love the freehand work, love the pinup girl touches - and all set off by some subtle subdued background colours too. I'll be following this - can't wait to see them all finished.

Hail Brothers, I know that it has been ages since I posted any updates... but things were going a little crazy in real life.... but, here is the update, and proof that I'm still alive and kicking!

So, at some point this crazy idea hit me, I wanted to enter the Armies on parade contest that was started by GW, thankfully there is a GW store about 20min from me.
The contest rules are 1 HQ choise, at least two units.... and that's about it.
here is a link to the GW post about http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/content/article.jsp?catId=&categoryId=§ion=&pIndex=4&aId=5800004a&start=5&multiPageMode=true
First I needed a theme, after a lot of thinking, gallons of coffee, and sleepless nights, I decided on a patrol theme... Talking to a Megamind of Ideas, my brother, he suggested, not exactly a patrol, but a pacification, sweep up Op.

Now the setting, was the next step.

again, more sleepless nights, the theme and setting was decided... SLUMS!!!

A force of marines sweeping through slums, and killing anything in their paths!
More than that, tanks running over buildings, assault marines jumping from roof to roof, speeders skimming over a suspended bridge and so forth.

this is what I have done so far, the force of marines, and the buildings themselves.
no to the pics.

I am sorry that the pics might be a little dark, but there are a lot of these so I did not spend the time to edit them.

some details of the buildings, there will be a lot of small details. like a pigeon coop, a roof garden, small things that will bring the story and the setting to life, it's the little things that matter the most, right???

A freight container.

Shack

I decided to go with ten Sturn Guard, one Tactical squad, an Assault Squad, a Chaplain with jump pack for HQ, and a number of tanks mauling through the slums.

The Chaplain.

Here is the overall setup of the board with the units in place.

Not at all Calgar, I will get credit to the person that came up with the idea in the first place.... I can;t find the original article., he used regular sprues, but it was still a great idea... It's easy enough to make them.. just have to be careful... my only condition would be that I want to see how it turns out.. so post the pic here)))

Hi, am really enjoying this blog. The army has a great identity. I'm really impressed with the "muted" style of painting and wanted to ask, do you have a particular technique that you've developed?

thanks guys.
Axlbush, the style is based on pastel like, earth tones...
I used Valejo model colour, mostly German Beige, Golden Yellow and US Dark Green. Valejo Game Color Camouflage Green.... and I start off with a mid dark tone for the under coat, Flat Earth works great for that, and then German Beige as the base coat... after that is gradually adding soft lighter mixes...
