Subject: advice on Hive Tyrant

Elite Tyranid Warrior
|
So i just finished my tyrant today, all magnetized up and ready for battle, and tomorrow is his first.
Now i made some custom wings so really want to play those, and i am going up against a BA player, who i know is going to run 3 razorbacks loaded with cc troops and priests. which variant of Hive tyrant works best at nerfing that.
my first thought is
Flyrant + 2x scything talons, paroxysm, leech essence
but the one that made the list is
Flyrant + 2x devourers brainleech worms, same powers
what do you guys think to fight razorbacks?

Devourers all the way.
1) Old adversary... same effect with supporting abilities
2) Tyrants aren't tank hunters
3) TL devourers is better at dealing with razorbacks than just dual talons because if hits at a range, and basically all damage results lead to the razorback being worthless for that turn.
4)TL devourers + OA is no different in CC than Dual talons... just more points. But supporting factors and range make up for this.
In both cases, wings and gargoyles are probably the best option. If you choose talons, you must take wings or you are waisting your time.
That's my 2 cent's

+1 but I'll just throw in the reminder that OA won't help you against vehicles. Still, if you have the points, the devs are not a bad choice at all for most of the reasons stated above.

1. While the devourer gives you plenty of shots, it's only S6 vs armour 11 and so 5 to glance, 6 to pen. It is 12 twin linked shots though.
2. Talons will give you rerolls in CC and 2d6 armour penetration, but you only get 4 attacks - 5 of the charge.
So not much in it ...
Overall, the devourer will give you more flexibility especially if you don't have many other high str shooting attacks. Overall though, Nids are about synergy and the tyrant should be used to match the rest of your army.

@ruminator: 1 damage result, be it glance or pen, will take care of razorbacks with no problems. On a 1 it cant shoot, on a 2 it can't shoot, on a 3 you get rid of a weapon, on a 4... don't get a 4. On a 5 and 6 it is gone. You assume that the vehicle has to be dead that turn for its worth to be made up... Leave the rerolls to hit at S6+2D6 to the trygons in your list (ninjafex if you wish as well)

Just remember, this weapon is fine for stopping light vehicles from shooting, but nothing more as it gets the -1 on the damage chart for ap -. This means glances are a -3 and -1 on the odd pen. Chances of actually cracking a light vehicle are extremely small, but as stated its best use is suppression to stop them firing.
