Painted for a friend

I painted some terminators for him in a very similar sort of messy style using a metallic black wash so I painted this guy the same way.

One power fist is never enough !!! Seriously though, i'd suggest trying to keep your painting cleaner or maybe get a better quality brush. As for the colour scheme it looks pretty cool mate !

Whites and blues always look great as they really show the details of a model and make the pose more dynamic, and you've done the colors justice indeed. I agree with Armorum Ferrum though, try to clean it up a bit by diluting your paints. The red could use another pass too. Try to cut down on shadows a bit as your losing detail.

Don't change a thing on that cape though; it looks outstanding!

My friend specifically asked for the shadows to be like that. Or else they would be a lot cleaner. Also, all my paints have been thinned about 1:1 give or take some. But thank you for the criticism. I'm practicing my drapery and I think I've got a moderately good technique.

Well if that's what he asked for then you did an outstanding job giving him what he wanted. And in which case the model is great! Its one thing to achieve great effects using proper techniques, but to fill a request that asks for unconventional effects shows skill as well IMHO.

I like the colour scheme... but the painting is a little poor.

I'm not assuming your lazy, in fact I assume you're just a bit new to painting.

Get a new brush and remember not to use too much paint. I think you're gonna be an awesome painter... Just practice careful strokes and you're on that road.

A good start on your road to Painting stardom. I would try using a wet palette, so you can thin the paints and put a slightly thinner coat of paint. Painting directly out of the pots is quick but it generally results in blobby looking paint jobs.

I do use a wet pallet, every single paint I use has been thinned and I've been painting for 4 years. :/
My friend said he loved it.

Apologies, I thought the paint looked a bit thick. I incorrectly assumed it was because it was you were using unthinned paints. Mea Culpa.

I still like the miniature though and i think the colour scheme is nice, particularly the shading on the power gloves. Using an off white with a blue/grey does look quite distinctive.

Yes, I very much like the technique I used becuase it is so simple. Last year, he asked me to paint a large force of his (3 dreads and like 6 squads) Omg, I did it really badly and I hated panting white armor till I tried this on his termis.
