while browsing through modeling links provided by dakka members i came across this and felt that it would be something that Dakka members would possibly like to help out with. Apparently a modeler's model was stolen during a convention, and seeing as how Dakka has such a wide ranging membership, posting this here not only helps spread the word but could also possibly lead to recovering the model or gaining new info on it.

here's the original link:

Looking for stolen figure!
This is an unpleasant situation, but it seems that my figure was stolen during one of the European model competition.

Looked so:

If any of you see it somewhere, please let me know.

And you can shoot in its 'new owner' without any questions..

this is a sad situation and this guy is handling it very well, if it was me i'd be screaming at the heavens and cursing the gods. So if anyone has any information please go to the above provided link and let this guy know what you know.

well one of two things is happening here, the first is unmentionable since we don't want to give the person who nikked it any ideas, and the second is that the person is a complete idiot and will try to sell it, but eventually, just like the guy doing recast titans, they will be found out. whether the model can still be recovered at that point is another story. Ebay is fairly good about shutting down and helping to recover stolen goods, if it's noticed in time. If it's not and it goes out of country, then it becomes an international thing and that will compound the sentence that the thief will eventually get from the courts.

That sucks, bro. Hope it turns back up, it really looks cool.

Do you have a big community of people there that are military collectors? You might run this pic by them, or your local Pawn shops.

Someone might have seen it at your local gunshops, or shows, too.

At Games Workshop, we believe that how you behave does matter. We believe this so strongly that we have written it down in the Games Workshop Book. There is a section in the book where we talk about the values we expect all staff to demonstrate in their working lives. These values are Lawyers, Guns and Money.

It's probably on a shelf somewhere waiting to be passed off as his own work in an IPMS show or something. You may want to widen the net, look for other forums that deal with military modelling and other plastic kits. Post it there as well, the more eyes on the job the better.

I had a piece of terrain stolen off a table at Gencon last year. It was a whole building! Who steals a whole building?

I had an entire 3000pt Wood elf army stolen (one case) once.

It WASN'T in a camera case or gun case or anything that screamed "steal me, please". It wasn't discarded in any of the local neighbourhood rubbish bins (covered the area for 30 minutes on foot in all of the accessible directions).

Stuff gets stolen. Hopefully, the guy who made it has notified the various model show groups that handle that stuff (IPMS, etc) and it will turn up.

Sometimes they don't. It sucks, but you get over it.

Eventually.

I hope.

This really sucks and I think the model was very nicely done.

On a side note what does IPMS mean?

Nicely painted model, but how did someone manage to steal an enormous scenic base?
In all seriousness however, I hope it gets returned to its rightful owner.

I once had an army stolen. I put the cases in my car and went back in to shop, and forgot to lock my doors. This was at the real Maryland Battle Bunker, so the only people in the area were gamers. Called the police, filed a report with description.

About a year later, I stroll into the local GW store. Looked at my army on the table...the cases on the floor next to the table, with my initials emblazoned on them. Picked up a couple of the figures, they had my initials on the bottoms of the bases.

Looked around. Guy comes over and starts talking to me. Says he bought the army for 500 from a friend who was an awesome painter. I nod and smile. He then starts packing up. I help him.

He walks off to shop.

I pick my cases up and leave.

Never saw the guy again. Too bad for him...he either stole it, or bought stolen goods.

Later sold the army to a kid for 500 and I've regretted it ever since...was the best army I ever painted. I've sold 4 armies, never saw them played in my area...

.Only a fool believes there is such a thing as price gouging. Things have value determined by the creator or merchant. If you don't agree with that value, you are free not to purchase.

I would have written him a note.. He may have been the thief, but chances are he *knows* the guy and once he figured out they were stolen then he would have led you to the real criminal

I have had a friend have his army stolen by a vindictive player. Problem was since the army was never recovered and no evidence of possession, he could not do anything. We figured the guy tossed the army in a dump.

In the interests of raising further awareness, should anyone spot it in the future, could you tell me who made the original model and what scale it is?

That is horrible. I once seen a kid probably around the age of 11 stel a 40k model I knew it wasnt his so I had to ask him about it after talking to him for a good half an hr he went back to the store gave it to the owener of the store and told him he took it form a locker that was left unlocked It was a deamon. Sucks for the victim all the time and effort they put into an item only to have it stolen.I honestly would rather have my car radio stolen isntead of soem of my models =). Also one thing to note is be careful of leaving models in industrial looking types of containers.. my friend had two tackleboxes and a tool box taken from his car and I am assuming that the person who took them thought he would end up with tools and such..I owuldnt doubt the mini's were thrown away =( such a crime!

@precinctomega - unfortunately, I don't have that info, i only have the persons webname, and that it happened somewhere in europe. the original poster didn't include such stuff in his post, which you can read for yourself via the link provided in my original post at the top.

@izeya82 - I agree, although that in no way is exclusive, as someone who is going to steal will do so no matter what case you carry your stuff in, but because someone does think it might be tools or something else that they can pawn it makes it more likely. I used to carry my paints in a tacklebox and someone tried to pry open the windows of my tractor to get at it one time in a truck stop.

it's not my model, so the compliment should not go to me but to the person who actually made it. We're also not here to critique the model in any way, merely raise peoples awareness that this is a stolen model and that if you see it for sale ANYWHERE, you should immediately contact the appropriate webmaster and inform them of such or call the local police. I'm quite certain that calling the local police will result in them requiring proof, at which point it is rather easy to jump on the internet and point them to here or to the original post, the link for that is again at the top of the page in my original posting.

This is why I dont trust any sort of kid around my models. I have had plenty taken from me, the one that I remember most was my Emperors Champion model. From that day on I never used the current model. Keeping track of them and being aware of who is around you is key in making sure someones fingers dont snatch up your prized model.
