So, looking through the CSM codex, I came to the conclusion that, in order to make it more viable, why not give the marines a more reliable transport that's not horribly over-priced? Because, at the moment, the tactic for the Chaos Rhino seems to be "Rush in as fast as you can, hope it doesn't blow up or get immobilized to anti-tank fire, and hop the marines out to suffer one round of shooting before assaulting (assuming they get that far)." The only other option for a transport is a land raider, which is a bit much for a squad of 10 marines.

So, my proposal is this: instead of giving them an intermediate transport, why not give the rhino an upgrade to make it better at getting where it needs to go? How about we have Daemonic Possession make it into a monstrous creature and toss in extra armor to fill in for the old Possession? I'm thinking about Toughness 5-6 with 3-2 wounds, respectively, and a bolter with BS 4 (because the Rhino itself comes with a pintle-mounted one). Also, how about letting it take different marks for each of the gods? Like, Nurgle=+1 toughness, Khorne=assault vehicle, and Slannesh=fast vehicle (haven't thought of anything yet for Undivided and Tzeench).

So, what do you think about this? What should some of its other stats be?

I don't think making it a MC would work.. but you could probably have upgrades for different gods as mentioned above^ with Undivided staying normal, and possibly a cover save of even a skimmer for Tzeentch

I don't know, I quite like the idea of it being a monstrous creature. I like the blurring of the lines between machine and Daemon, feels very Chaosy to me. Could still have god-specific upgrades.

Really liking the idea of a Rhino with legs. And wings. Yeah.

Disgusting. The thing is a transport tank. Give me a reason why it should be a monstrous creature, fluff wise.

But being as this is a .44 Magnum, the most powerful handgun in the world, and would blow your head clean off, you've got to ask yourself one question: Do I feel lucky? Well, do ya, punk?

It should be daemony like a suol grinder/defiler but should never be a MC. If it was it would be 100+pts and no transport except LRs and super heavies should cost that much

Currently debating whether to study for my exams or paint some Deathwing

Been going through something like this with JustDave for his chaos Codex (Check it out by the way, it's awesome) and I had the idea that, as Daemonic possession is essentially a Daemon possessing the vehicle, make it pretty expensive, keep the existing rules for crew shaken, stunned and BS(3) but also give it a 5+ Inv.

We've decided to leave it out but it was considered for a little while and thought it was a fairly good idea.

No pity, no remorse, no shoes

My reasoning for making it a MC is this: There's no way a single lucky shot could spill all your guys midfield, and tyranids already have a transport MC, so why not?

@ Y.F.D.R. Because Daemonic possession could be that the entire machine gets turned into a daemon that can carry guys. Give me a fluff reason why it shouldn't.

I don't like it.

Maybe the Rhino would be better if they brought back things like the mutated hull and stuff.

Have it fix itself, have a CC weapon,Re grow weapons.

You know like in the old codex.

keep it a tank with an armor value
all of them are immune to crew shaken crew stunned, BS3 or 4. Its a twin linked bolter, who really cares.

Keep it as it is, but add the possiblity of other things. Like possesion. Khorne makes it an assault vehicle, nurgle gives it the possiblity of fixing any 1 thing per round as the tank 'heals' itself, tzeench makes it fast, slaanesh... No idea what to give a slaanesh rhino. And Undivided is just a little tougher. +1 armour all around. But it costs points to get anything more than just a basic rhino. So all of a sudden you're pumping as many points into said rhino as you do to upgrade razorback (which I'd also want possesion for). So the option is there, but its expensive and forces you consider how much you really need/want it.

Mark of Khorne:
Destroyer - All models forced to move by a tank shock made by a vehicle with the Destroyer upgrade take an automatic wound on the roll of a 4+ with armour saves allowed.

Mark of Nurgle:
Noxious Miasma - Any unit wishing to assault a vehicle with the Mark of Nurgle must first pass an toughness test or suffer an automatic S3 AP- hit per model, allocated as shooting.

Mark of Slaanesh:
Hellscreech - A unit that is tank shocked by a vehicle with the Mark of Slaanesh takes its morale check with a -D3 modifier to Ld. Furthermore, on a D6 roll of 4+ no Death or Glory! can be taken, even by models with the Fearless special rule, as the daemon bound within the vehicle supresses the enemy's will to retalliate.

Mark of Tzeentch:
Warp Energies - A vehicle with the Mark of Tzeentch is immune to psychic powers. Any psychic power attempted on a vehicle with the Mark of Tzeentch will instead backfire and affect the caster, or in cases where the vehicle is not directly targetted (for exmaple Jaws of the World Wolf), the spell and its effects will terminate upon reaching the vehicle.

Volatile - The warp energies surrounding the vehicle are the stuff of the immaterium, and act strangely in the material plane. Any unit wishing the assault a vehicle with the Mark of Tzeentch treats the terrain between them and the vehicle as difficult and dangerous as tendrils of warp energy lash out at the enemies of Chaos.

Furthermore, if a vehicle with the Mark of Tzeentch is destroyed, roll a D6. On the roll of a 1, the warp energies tear a temporary rift into the immaterium, creating a large explosive force. Place the large blast template over the vehicle; all models caught under the template (friend and foe) suffer a S4 AP- hit.

Mark of Chaos Undivided:
Reinforcement - Increase the armour value of any facing on a vehicle with the Mark of Chaos Undivided by 1 to a maximum of 14.

Empowerment - If a vehicle with the Mark of Chaos Undivided rams another vehicle, then you may add +1 to the total strength of the hit. If a vehicle with the Mark of Chaos Undivided is rammed by another vehicle, decrease the strength of the hit you suffer by 1.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
