Well as the TO for the event I thought I this had been posted in the correct place. Alas my advertisement drone did not do the correct job. I am here to correct this misunderstanding. At first we had the price at $75, but after working with A-kon we got the price lowered to $40, for the 40k event. Although with out the access to the rest of the A-kon convention. This is just a gaming badge.
Here is the fully updated press release for the event.
Currently we have 30 signed up (fully paid) and have space for up to 30 more.
Ok folks its that time.
The Heroic 28s have finally nailed down all the details, looked at the cost, got the sponsors, etc.
The Railhead Rumble is a 2000 point Warhammer 40k event hosted by the Heroic 28s at A-kon. Preregistration is up and is $40 for a 7 round event. We have added a Team event to the competition. A "Team" is three individuals that are competing singularly in the event. Their overall ranking is a combination of their individualized scores. They are competing for the coveted Railhead Cup. This is a trophy that will travel from event to event with the past winners names engraved on the cup. More information can be found on http://theheroic28s.blogspot.com/ ,as well as listening to the podcast The Heroic 28s. Email any questions to theheroic28s@gmail.com
On Friday, June 10th the Heroic 28s will be hosting a massive Apoc game in the gamining area. So bring all the big toys to play a fun and fully themed game. There will be demos, and open gaming in that area as well. Teams can sign up together.
Date: June 10th-12th
Location: The Downtown Westin/ Sheridan in Dallas Tx. Goto http://a-kon.com/ for more information on the hotels and location.
Thanks to you guys for making this event a good one.

Heh...
I searched and searched for a way to get ahold of you without having to register for forums, subscribe, etc - I ended up sending a message to the e-mail address for list turn ins. Glad to see you have contact info here now.
Have you guys hosted this before? Is this the first year for you to do it? If you've had it in previous years, what was the attendance like?

This our first event at A-kon, we have run many events in the past, and they have been larger than this. Ask some of the Austin Gamers about our event in November of last year.
and YES the tourney entry fee gets you into the Apoc game and free play on Friday.

The website for "more information" cannot be found. :(
Upon further research...I'd prefer to attend the Railhead Rumble because it is closer to me than the other GT.
But you're using strength of schedule for tie-breakers. At a GT. :(
There are a lot of alternative tie-breakers, from multiple win conditions to determine tie-breakers, all the way down to victory points or battle points. Why strength of schedule? Its the most arbitrary and random possible selection. o.O

Any chance that you guys are going to shift tie-breakers from Strength of Schedule to Battle Points, or Victory Points, or multiple win condition tie-breakers?
Strength of schedule in a GT seems arbitrary, random, unassociated with someone's actual performance, and encourages players to submarine and perform under par to win by narrow margins to buff their opponent's strength of schedule to make them look like they did better.
Player A has a tactical ability of 5/10.
Player B has a tactical ability of 5/10.
Player C has a tactical ability of 9/10.
Player D has a tactical ability of 6/10.
Player B plays Player C. Player C tables his opponent. And all his other opponents.
Player D plays player A. Player D narrowly wins, and narrowly wins against his other opponents.
Both players are 4-0. Player D wins the tie-breaker because he can't pull solid wins...........

Plainly put no.
The SoS tie breaker is for splitting the brackets on day 2. Since you will be paired with like opponents from round 2 on the chances of a full upper tier of 4-0 is slim. It is for the 3-1 and 2-2 players. We compare who their opponents were and how the opponents did to determine the tie break, in other words we look at how many objectives they achieved, and VP, etc. This puts the burden on us, and since we have a night to complete the paperwork, it gives us plenty of time to make sure we have it correct. As for day 2, you are paired up from the start against similar pointed opponents.
Day 2 is a strait BP event. Since you are win-paired from the get go it works. All day one does is sets your position for day 2 finals. This style of event I have played in, and ran it works and works well.
Hope that helps
Buck

And presumably after 7 rounds, with 60 slots open...if winning players are paired against each other, there isn't a possibility of more than one player being 7-0...who would presumably be the winner.
64 round one
32 round two
16 round three
8 round four
4 round five
2 round six
1 round Seven
Well, if you have less than 64 people (30 signed up, room for 30 more)it may not take seven rounds.
Do you have any idea when you plan on having scoring/missions/etc sorted? Most importantly, what percentage of points from whatever categories (Battle/Paint/etc) are vested into your "Overall" winner? Automatically Appended Next Post: Alright! I'm in! =D

Now that I have a teaching job I definitely plan to be more active in the tournament scene. I can't really travel TOO far outside Texas, as my army doesn't fly well. My friends and I attended Chicago's 'Ard Boyz finals a few years back and the Memphis 40k tourney that ran alongside their Battle on Beale and it was a blast, both the road trips up and the gaming.
Gotta make a name for myself out there!
