Hi guys. I'm getting married the 27th this month, and we'll be spending 7 days in edinburgh, scotland for our honeymoon.
As stated in the topic title, what to do, where to go, and mostly, where to live without paying an arm and a leg? Prefferebly within walking distance to waverly bridge/princess street?
Cheers
/Calle and his soon to be wife

No offence, but why Edinburgh for a honeymoon? Its a beautiful city and all that but isn't the usual destination somewhere hot and sunny rather than cold and wet?

Edinburgh will be lovely in May if you are lucky with the weather. It will be very light in early morning and late evening because of the northern latitude. It’s a great city with many attractions.
All of central Edinburgh is accessible by walking and taxi/bus.
The core highlights are the castle, the Royal Mile that leads up to it, the park below , and the shopping along Princes Street. Behind Princes Street are some lovely Georgian squares and quieter pedestrian roads with pubs and restaurants.
Along the castle hill you will find a lot of touristy stuff, and some interesting architecture dating back to late mediaeval times.
The Camera Obscura is worth a visit. Views around central Edinburgh are projected onto a circular screen using a mirror and lens arrangement that dates back to the 1830s.
Edinburgh also has an excellent National art gallery, and of course general entertainment options like cinema and theatre.
Slightly further afield you can visit Holyrood Palace, King Arthur's Seat (a small mountain), and the port of Leith, which has some cool waterside restaurants and the permanently moored royal yacht Britannia.
The hill near Waverley Station, which has a kind of Greek temple on it, gives an alternative view of the city to the Castle and King Arthur’s Seat views.

For all your trip organizing needs.
Have a great honeymoon!

If you fancy a day trip somewhere, come on out to St. Andrews for a day or two. It's about an hour and half away by car, but we've got some lovely little sights out here (more than just the golf course, but there's that too!) There's the old castle and cathedral, and some shopping to be had.
THat is of course if you're willing to put on a daytrip.

Yeah, but the problem with St Andrews isn't the place, rather the people that live there. Scruffiest load of mountain dwellers you've ever seen. They're like hillbillies without the charm. And as to the sham university there, well......

St Andrews be damned!! and forget all that guff about art galleries and museums. If you go to Edinburgh you go to Bar Kohl for the cocktails and Rose Street for the pubs and taverns. Avoid the castle as they will rip you off big time for ticket entry - it's about £25 to get in, which I think is about 40 euros!!

Ghost Dogs
The grounds of Edinburgh Castle contain a canine graveyard, one of only two in Scotland (the other is at Fort George). It seems that not all the dogs buried there are resting in peace - the sound of ghostly barking and howling has been reported coming from the area. Whether there is one ghost dog or many is unknown.
.... never underestimate the sentimentality of a Scotsman.

The poor man really has a stake in the country. The rich man hasn't; he can go away to New Guinea in a yacht. The poor have sometimes objected to being governed badly; the rich have always objected to being governed at all

I'll have you know that we're not hillbillies out here! Hillbillies are far too sober.

I'd recommend somewhere on the west coast like the Kyle of Localsh or Ullapool.
Nice warm white sandy beaches with an excellent climate thanks to the gulf stream. Really not what you'd expect, but it's there.

The west coast of Scotland is beautiful, especially Iona.
It's quite secluded and the locals are friendly an just really peaceful.

Arthurs seat/Hollyrood park
The Castle
The museum, depending on when it is (reopens mid july), Princes street/ George street
There are some really nice places outside edinburgh like park that can be reached by the bus services (up to every 15 minutes)
also the botanic gardens are nice If you just want a quiet day out.
Killcrazy covered it quite well but one of the things I would recomend is one of the bus tours, they give you a quick overview of history/things to do and are great for tourists.

I didn't think that hillbillies charm came from their sobriety.
