A while back I posted a 2000 points army list featuring 100 Kroot, 9 Broadsides, and 9 Crisis Suits. I currently own 12 Crisis Suits and 2 Broadsides.
http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/365294.page

I have three options:
A: Buy 7 Broadsides ($245 USD)
B: Buy 4 Broadsides and convert my current 3 Crisis Suits to Broadsides ($140 USD) + 3 * x
C: Buy 4 Crisis Suits and convert 7 to Broadsides ($89 USD) + 7 * x

Where x = cost of converting stuff to Broadside Railguns.

I would like to do option C.

The SMS can be substituted using the Missile Pods, but the Railgun is difficult to convert.

Does anyone know of a good conversion for making Broadside Railguns?

I'd also like to avoid casting original GW product's. I tend to play in GW stores a lot and I'm pretty sure the store manager would either kick me out or sick GW's corporate lawyers on me.

If you are painting your miniatures then theoretically no one will know. However, to convert a crisis suit to a broadside, you'll need to cover the rear jump jet vents. (Plasticard wouldn't be hard to do there) You might consider balsa wood, eldar heavy weapons, fountain pens (some look techy enough), etc... or even a bit of circuit board (team that up with the balsa wood or plastic card and you might have something there.

The Bringer came up with a tutorial a while back for converting railguns out of common or garden Crisis suit weapons. The end result didn't quite do it for me, but maybe it will help inspire you?

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

Yeah, I'd prefer a more squarish rail over the round one. Also, the massive gun without the Broadside large backpack makes it the model look unbalance. It's a good start though!

While browsing the internets, I discovered a nice conversion off of Dark Future Gaming:

http://darkfuturegaming.blogspot.com/2010/08/paulson-games-releases-power-scythes.html

After digging deeper, I found out the resin bits used in the two photos originated from a 3rd party known as "Paulson Games"

http://www.paulsongames.com/resin.html

There's two resin bits of interest:

Long Gun:

and Medium Gun:

The long gun look still doesn't fix the unbalance look without the broadside metal backpack attachment. Its a great substitute for people who bought a broadside and receive deformed Railgun metal bitz or none at all. It's also expensive since I would need to buy 2 for each shoulderpad. I could buy 1, but that would awkward.

The medium gun look is more economic as I would only have to buy 1 for each of my Crisis Suits. As for the TL-rule, I could just say the Broadside is double-tapping.

Yeah, if you're using a nonstandard gun, I don't think you'll get too many complaints re it counting-as a TL pair of 'ordinary' guns, so long as you point out to opponents that the model counts as a normal Broadside.
