Subject: How would Skaven deal with Orcs?

I'm looking for a new army to start (gunline empire sooooo boring) and was looking at skaven a bit. Just wondering, how would they deal with Orcs?
Specifically my friend's list with a huge unit of each Savage Big'Uns and Black Orcs with Grimgor.
HPA's get downed easily by these units at least as far as I can see
They are T4 so the spell plague doesnt do enough (plus i take a Seer with ruin spells, idk if its worth making my plague priest on furnace a Lvl 2)
Cant try to make them run because they are all ITP
Generic shooting doesn't do enough (i think its 35-40 man blocks)
Artillery doesnt do enough
They have enough ranks and attacks to get through the slave tarpits within 2 rounds of combat if not 1

I hate hard counters. In a game of rock, paper, scissors, I hate playing any of the factions because no matter what you choose you might as well not deploy against your hard counter. I want to use a gun. Rock, paper, and scissors could all probably still beat gun, but gun will never feel like a game is a lost cause. |

Multiple warpfire throwers? And maybe also the poisoned catapult?
|
With the galaxy as large as it is the odds of the average guardsmen seeing and fighting a marine or MEQ are relatively slim. Unfortunately the guardsmen in your (and anyone else who plays IG's) army are the REALLY, REALLY LUCKY ones that fight marines ALL the time... |

Weapons teams get downed in a single shot by doom divers and the catapult wounds on 6's....

There isn't a single answer to the problem. The best answer probably comes from solving the multiple issues individually.
1) O&G war machines kill your WFT. Easily dealt with, Gutter Runners with poisoned slings. Once the war machines are dealt with, the GR can start shooting the big nasty block in the back too.
2) Doing enough shooting damage to weaken the unit. I recommend Warp-Lightning Cannon. For the cost of an A-bomb, you can take 2 WLC and have points left over for the aformentioned Gutter Runners. They also distract fire from your WFT.
3) Hold back and let shooting take it's toll. Engage them around turn 4-5 if you can hold them off that long.

Rat packs.
23 points, block his path, and sit at a 45 degree angle, forcing him to align to face the outside. Move a slave unit to catch the over-run, and turn him another 45 degrees.
Now he's facing the outside, and you can shoot into combat.
Finally, take Plague.
Plague, wither and 13th spell are all awesome vs death stars. Any one of those spells makes a big dent; while wither makes it so that your dirt cheap and higher initiative units become a real threat.
Put your general in a unit with the banner of discipline; that way all those small units are LD9 for those tests.
