This has bothered me to no end...why can't grey knights have shields? Does that seem wrong to anyone else? Game rules aside...a knight that can't take a shield? What is up with that? Hell I might just model some on to please my own sense of what knights should be able to carry. I just can't wrap my head around it.

They can't because the codex states otherwise, somewhere, for some reason, or something.

Then again... they HAVE shields, aegis. And more invun saves than you can shake a stick at.

Because shields are held in the left hand.

That's the arm that their Storm Bolters are on. Shield=no firing as they advance.

Form the shields around the barrels?

There are some who walk until their legs fail them and they fall to the ground. I find that respectable.
Then there are those who drag themselves further. I find that admirable.

They don't really need them. A Grand Master has an Iron Halo giving him a 4++, and as long as you keep him equiped with the standard Nemesis Force Sword he would get a 3++ in CC. You could always take Crusaders if you really feel the need to field em though.

Yeah, theres nothing really preventing them from doing something to either put the bolter on the shield, or have it shoot through the shield. Its just...I mean they're knights! Knights! Medieval knights had shields out the wazoo! And to all those that were talking about in game rules, I said that aside. I mean, draigo has a shield. Is he the only one that thought of that?

I said regardless of the game rules. I realize that it would be imbalanced if my troop termies could all take storm shields. I meant it fluff wise.

LOL then take termis, they have mini cute shields on their shoulder pads ^_^

probably they look better, more stylish than someone who carries a shield around all day. Also Gk are not knights, thats just a name, they are space marines but who are trained to fight demons, also they have their force fields so they don't need sheilds.

well, fluff is just a story, things change LOL, how do you know maybe more fluff has come out about shield being disgarded, its all down to the writer.

Draigo is the only one with a Storm Shield now, and look at what he's doing to Daemons in the Warp. They couldn't morally give anyone else in the GK army Storm Shields just to give the poor Daemons a chance.

There's plenty of Chapters called "Knights".

And Draigo has a shield. With his storm bolter on his sword arm.

It's sad imho... While I agree that, as they are, giving termies and paladins storm shields would be overkill, they really suffer from the lack of it. I'd be very happy to take a normal assault termie squad, even if they were forced to take exclusively daemonhammers. As is, I feel that termies/paladins are mostly a waste of points.

You know...that would make them almost...competitive.

Suddenly a Draigo paladin army looks a lot better with a 2+ invulnerable save.

Waiting for my shill money from Spiral Arm Studios

giving them a shield option would be waaaay OP.

Terminators with nemisis swords would be IMPOSSABLE to kill.

3++ against shooting, 2++ in combat.

I am sure the world would implode if that happened.

they actually nerfed Draigo. his sword doesn't give +1 Invuln.

Are we sure about the two plus re-roll? If it's a power weapon they can't get fnp for it. So where is that re-roll coming from?

Not that I don't agree with you. Massively OP.

hm what?

2++ Means invuln (or sometimes cover) save. Nothing about rerolls here afaics

I think the op is concerned more with the fluff than the rules. Many medieval knights had shields, but not all of them. A lot of knights had two handed long swords (an effective offensive and defensive weapon). Knights on horseback or with short swords had shields mostly because its difficult to guard both sides with the same weapon. Shields are not a requisite for a knight, but it would be nice to see one or two GK have that option.

HIDING IN THE METAL BAWKSES!!

Draigo took their entire stockpile of Storm Shields when he goes to the warp!
On the balance side, they could have force you to take the Shield with the Hammer, thereby voiding the Sword/Shield issue.

Every other space marine chapter bought all the stormshields from the local imperial super market and are currently on backorder for GK. Crusaders on the otherhand got theirs from DW players before they properly read the manual for 5th edition SS. Also due to budget cuts from the high lords of terra.

Comparing tournament records is another form of e-peen measuring.

Yeah, thats my bad. It'd be a 2+ armor and a 3+ invul. I was under the impression that the ++ meant a reroll. My mistake.

But draigo could have certainly taken all the storm shields when he fell into the warp.

I would've liked to have seen the GK with some basic shield options.

Imagining paladins with NFS and SS, stormbolter/psycannon/incinerator on NFS arm like Draigo. (2+, 3++, 2++ in CC, 2 wounds)

...cries of opposing forces too loud to silence!

Considering taking Draigo along with a Paladin group negates their single vulnerability (high str low ap), I imagine them all having 3++ might be a bit OTT, regardless of how much I'd revel in it.

It would be over powered gravy, and I would roll around in it. Delicious.

Frankly, I just really love the look of storm shields. So i'll model them and just have them be ornamental shield.

Gk don't need to compensate with thier shields, they have tiny ones on ther shoulder pads, assault termis likes to hide in shame behind their storm shield LOL

They slaughter GK termies normally though, unless they just run away from them all the time and hope to kill em with lots of storm bolter fire (which does work though it's hardly how you imagine the best of the best the imperium has to give...)

Crusader henchmen have storm shields.

If you want more cowbell in your gk army, just take Coteaz as your HQ, and 6 groups of Crusaders (72 crusaders)

Now, slowly walk them across the field in a giant line formation and take a picture.

I honestly don't understand why people bring crusaders up... It's not that I want storm shields because I like their looks... I'd just like to have the option for just ONE Grey Knight Assault terminator squad.

Because the whole thread has been talking about stormshields? That might be why it got brought up.

And it was already pointed out that terminators could get a 2+ invulnerable save if they were allowed to have shields.

The nemesis weapon units weren't given stormshields for game balance issues, and the henchmen were given them to satisfy people who like the looks. Seems pretty straight forward
