I wanted to add Mephiston to my army but I hated the model. So I looked around till I found a model I liked. I found the emperor's Champion and feel in love with the model. I will probably redo the pistol hand in the future when I get a hand and plasma pistol that are on the right side but this will do for now. C&C welcomed and encouraged.

His name is Horatus Cocles.

I still need to do the black cat insignia on the shoulder pad. Still getting more practice on my standard marines before I have a go at it .

Looks good. The jewels are very well done especially.

Thanks. I spent a while looking for good tutorials on how to do them. Seemed totally counter intuitive to me to make the top dark and the bottom light but it looks fantastic.

It's very well painted, but...

Absolutely terrible idea. Is your army Black Templars or Blood Angels? Either way, this does not work at all.

Black templars are extremely anti-psyker. Mephiston is one of the Imperium's most powerful psykers.

Blood Angels do not have Emperor's Champions.

Emperor's Champions do not have psychic powers.

Great paint job for a proxy.

Great paint job, but get ready to be flamed by a ton of Black Templar players haha (myself included to an extent). You could have made him a bit more pronounced as a Blood Angel, I'm sure the brothers of the many Templar crusades wouldn't like to get a Blood Angel mixed up with their pure ranks. All-in-all a good job though.

I like the model choice, though if you are using him in a blood angels force it may be a good idea to paint him with blood angels colors. Especially as it is a BT model.

I also agree that the Mephiston model sucks...

Yeah I agree with all of you saying this as well..

I converted my Mephiston model as well, and everybody that has seen it loves it!

I also love the use of an Emperor's Champion.

Do you use the rest of the army as a counts as BlackTemplars/BloodAngels? I've seen one person do it before and it looked fantastic, so if you have any more pictures of your army like that I'd love to see them.

I'm fairly certain that the OP isn't playing Black Templars, just a DIY chapter with the BA rules. Hence the comment at the end of their post

Nice work, but definitely a gak-shotgun of not making sense in terms of fluff.

Thanks for the comments everyone.

Yes I can totally understand how my army can seem confusing as they have a BT colour scheme (totally by accident). I only started playing in January and started collecting a few months after that. I started with Vanilla marine rules but I always used loads of assault marines/deep striking and loads of CC it was just my style of play. So when I bought my first Tac squad I wanted to model them after Raven guard. I went looking on cool mini or not for a colour scheme. I found these absolutely amazing terminators (blue eyes with black and white armor) and decided that was going to be the base for my army. I later realized that it is basically BT with blue eyes .

Still new I was talking to some people about 40k after a game and they noted that I loved using assault marines and pointed me to the BA codex. After looking at it I like the BA rules as they fitted my play style so I made the switch the BA codex.

I also decided to make my own army fluff as my army didn't really fit with any existing chapters anymore and the blood angel fluff gives me acid reflux. So the Black Cats where born; Space Marines cursed with unbelievable bad luck (If you saw my dice rolls you would understand) They over come their ill-fated nature with bloody ferocity. Thats the basics I will have to sit down and give it more depth.

These are images of more of my army

I have painted (but not shown yet) another 10 man tac squad, and started on my assault squads (one down ~20 more to go )

One of my next projects is to turn a living saint into a Dante style character. I'm going to have to pick one up soon before they all disappear

I like your army theme and fluff, but you really need to do something else to that Emperor's Champion to make him count as Mephiston.

Cheers ^_^

I might try and get my sculpting skills up to scratch and put a skull on the bare shoulder pad. It is something I wanted to do but I currently lack the green stuff skills to pull it off. Mephiston has one. Other than that he doesn't have a lot of unique war gear.

A skull would be a good start. Perhaps some blue paint and a psychic hood, as Mephiston is Chief Librarian, and your EC model has nothing to designate him as a Librarian, nor any of a Librarian's standard wargear.

In fact, if you gave him one blue arm and shoulder pad, a psychic hood, and the two tubes that Librarians have going down the sides of their chests, your model would be very proper.

For the mean time I am going to leave him as is. I am happy with it so far and I have way too much other things on my 'to paint' list. Maybe paint the Iron halo a gem blue to make it a psychic hood....

This is my whole painted army so far. I still have tones of unpainted stuff to get done.

lol no worries. I'm only using the BA for the rules and had no intentions of modeling my army after BA. No nipple armor or long flowing hair (Unless your a SOB).

Hopefully it will become more apparent when I get all the assault marines/death company and baal preds done.

Might want to drill the barrels on your bolters, though. Especially that Storm Bolter on the Termie- the flat oval is a bit obnoxious looking.

Absolutely beautiful stuff, though. Don't think of it as taking too long to paint any one thing, think "Thank got I didn't decide to play Orks"!

It looks very cool, well done! Where did you get the name Horatius Cocles? Is it from the story of when he defended Rome from an entire Etruscan army by himself?

@Jone96

Thanks! I've been having a ponder about that....I might put lightning effects going up his sword arm and converting that iron halo into a psychic hood of sorts

@Anvildude

lol thanks. I do have to get the barrels drilled at some point, the only reason I haven't done it yet is because I got a small enough drill bit. It is on my "to buy really soon" list.

@TheGreyJedi

Thanks. I think my skills have progressed.

@Huntho21

I have used this tutorial as a guide
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IDxeZE6Ozds
But on my standard models I only highlight with straight codex grey. On the Emperor's Champion. I started with a slightly darken Codex grey on all the highlights. Then straight codex grey on all the highlights but thinner than the first layer. Then a mixture of codex grey and skull white for key highlight points (light source). I then used chaos black to tidy up the highlights. I hope this helps

@CommissarCandlestick
YES! That is where I got the name. My wife helped me choose a name as she is a classics/history honor student. Mephiston is meant to be a librarian but really looking at his stats(and how he is usually played) he comes across to me as a one man army holding off whole groups of an army single handedly giving time for the rest of the army to do it's work. I think it's far more fitting

Again thanks to everyone for their input so far.

Very nice work.

Tali'Zorah: I appreciate what you're doing here, Shepard.
Commander Shepard: Well, I care deeply about the quarian people.
Tali'Zorah: It's good to be back on the Normandy.
Commander Shepard: Let me know if it's too quiet for you to sleep, and I'll find you someplace louder.
Tali'Zorah: Hmm.
Garrus Vakarian: Uh, I was there when you two had your thing, remember? Just get a room and work it out.

I like it, although seeing the pictures of your other models, you did yourself a disservice on this one. The terminators and dreadnought especially look good with more white in the scheme. Your "meph" could really use some more white, which will make him stand out more as a character model and eliminate some of the "it's just an EC" hate.

Thanks for the honest feedback. He is going to be going back onto the 'work on this list.' I am going to be replacing the Iron halo with a book. and I will look into adding more white onto the model. As well as some blue if I can.

Got the extra bits I ordered to finish Horatus. I removed the Iron Halo as it was incorrect wargear and added to book to give it a more librarian feel. I think I am finally happy with this model. My next project is converting a living saint into a Sanguinor. I appreciate all the opinions and pointers have given me through this process. It has helped me a lot.

So was the book a pre-made bit, or did you do that yourself? Either way, a handsome model, and I like the addition of the book. Gives it a much more unique feel. After all, nothing says 'badass' like going into battle with a book on your back.
