Well, after years of using the internet, nothing is as annoying as trolls and their shenanigans, people often fail to realize you shouldn't feed the trolls.

According to wikipedia:
In Internet slang, a troll is someone who posts inflammatory, extraneous, or off-topic messages in an online community, such as an online discussion forum, chat room, or blog, with the primary intent of provoking readers into responding.

I want to know how you handle them.

I ignore them, especially on forums where trolls are friends with moderators.

Those are the worst, it's like they can do whatever, and get away with it

Shame they are ignored most of the time on many forums.

I mostly ignore. But once in a while, I'll see the same face pop up several times, or just say something so WTF that I have to report it. Not often though (like 3 times in 2 years)

Mainly on topics that deal with politics and religion we have trolls. I will Flag trolls if they are really bad, or I will flag people who break Rule 1.

It's really quite fun.

Dakka is a relative Troll-free zone compared to a lot of other places I haunt on the internet. The ignore button is a great invention as is the alert button.

Generally speaking though, I just skip over what the troll has written. I also tend to visualize them as someone who is either morbidly obese sitting in crusty sweatpants brushing the doritos dust out of their neckbeard while checking their Digimon downloads and adjusting their Atlanta Thrashers toque or a skinny metal-head with an extremely huge nose, greasy skin, bad teeth lamenting the loss of their one and only girlfriend from 11 years ago, some fat, Hogatha-esque character in stirrup pants with crossed eyes. No wonder they are so angry and fed up with the world that they have to get on the web and pick fights with people who are gullible enough to engage them in any kind of discourse. Of course, in the corporeal world they plug along with their eyes downcast marching, or waddling as the case may be, towards the inevitable grave defeated and broken.

Now whom amogst us has never Trolled, those that say they have never Trolled are trolling with that fib
I tend to just ignor them...or troll them back but never insterget the trolling...well almost never

I ignore them, point them out, insult them, get baited, feed them, etc. I have no standard routine when dealing with trolls.

You should warn them, but do it anyways just to show how hopeless they are.

Warning them just gives them time to edit what they said.

I ignore them but I do take it personally if it's response to something i've said, especially as i made it goal to be only positive on dakka and try and spread the love..not hate, but it seems some of those are just so full of themselves they can't help it. I pity the Troll!

While most of the time it's best to ignore and hit the alert button if they're really bad, dakka has some pretty witty folks on it. Not sure if making humorous posts counts as trolling, but hey, I like it.

Or even worse, where the trolls eventually become moderators. I dropped out of one forum a few years ago because I had someone trolling and haranguing me less than a month after I joined. Last year I peeked at that forum's rumor section briefly and discovered that the horrible troll was now a moderator there. If I had ever considered becoming active on that forum again that discovery completely killed the idea.

Humorous posts by themselves aren't bad. It's when the guy pulls out one of these that it starts to get bad.

That can't be Gailbraithe. Some of those posts made sense.
