I want to make a GK psirifleman dread, I will use a Ven dread chasis so it looks more GK like.
I know there are several options:

1. Aegis Defence line
2. Autocannon arms
3. Use IG heavy weapon AC

Those all work out pretty expensive, or require a fair amount of work. Anyone have any other ideas?

Thanks!

The forgeworld dreadnought autocannon arms are actually pretty reasonable compared to the other options and require very little work, you'd spend just as much on the aegis defense line and the IG ones are too weeny IMO.

Though if you get the Aegis kit, you also get the aegis defense line walls.

If your scratchbuilding skills are up to the challenge you could simply buy a length of plastic rod and cut it into barrels. Of course you need a couple of dread arms to afix them to

Old Crow Models has some gun barrels for pretty cheap that would probably be suitable, with a spot o' converting.

Bitspudlo has a pretty cool set of "Flak cannons" that look remarkably well suited for just this application too
Fancy that. I believe they're currently in the process of moving shop, but should be up and running again soon. You can keep yourself updated on that progress here.

Those crazy geniuses! The bitspudlo flak cannon is 2 for 1, you can use the whole assembly on the back of a Chimera to build a Hydra, or use the individual gun pairs and they're perfect rifleman dreadnought arms!
Thanks for the tip on that

That was indeed the website I was looking for earlier, thanks! I suppose I will go for the semi scratch build route.

Bad proxy imo. Sentinels are not dreadnoughts.

Forgeworld is totally out of stock on autocannon arms.

Aegis line is the best bet. Believe me, I was in your shoes a week ago. I looked over the options.

Damn, shame about the FW. I suppose I shall go the aegis route for definate then, trouble is they are never instock on bitz websites, reckon I should wait, for go out and buy two full lines? I don't really use them massively in game, and can't think of what I could use them for for conversions.

PS. You were in my shoes? Were you the one who left dog crap in them?

Bitz sites never stock the Aegis lines because nobody ever buys the wall parts. It's a bummer, I know. I bought two sets just to make hydras and the walls are still on sprue.

My 25mm gun barrells just came in from Old Crow they look ok a bit small in my opinion, going to re order the 40mm gun barrells.

Heh, glad I could help out. It's nice when endlessly trawling the internet can be used for good.

A while ago, I sat down and tried to figure out the best way to get an autocannon dread...despite playing Dark Angels and not having the option.
Idecided on the Aegis Defense line and put up a short tutorial on the process.

The one thing I will say about this route is that the arms are not the exact same length if you modify existing dreadnought arms to fit the autocannon barrels onto. For example a lascannon arm with the guns cut off and a missile launcher arm with no front plate. It's only a slight difference, but worth noting for those who are particular.

Here's a link to the tutorial on my blog: http://fromthewarp.blogspot.com/2010/03/mortis-pattern-dreadnought-conversion.html.

When people ask me, "How do you build your army?"
I tell them its "The ten-zero factor, coolness ten, combat effectiveness... zero."

Aegis is without a doubt the cheapest way. You get some cool terrain with it, and you can do it to an AOBR dreadnought and you're out like $30 altogether. Here's one I painted just recently:

the Aegis defense line is the easiest of the 3 options you have.

its also cheaper then FW because of shipping(unless you happen to be having a Titan shipped as well )

converting IG autocannons would work, but would require some extensive conversion. the Aegis autocannons can literally be slapped on the dred with no additional work.

and you get some terrain to go with it.

Not sure why you would want to. Its not exactly a ranged dred(you can't replace the standard DCCW with an autocannon)

I'm confused as to why people keep saying that the Autocannon Dread arms are out of stock at Forge World.

They're still listed as "Buy Now".

I took two Autocannons from the Cadian boxed set and an extra Dreadnought Twin-Linked Lascannon arm and cut the barrels off and pinned the autocannon barrels on to the nubs. I then cut the wiring harness off the Lascannon arm and glued two drum magazines on to the side. That's good if you want to set it up with one arm, not with two.

Nice dread!
I like the use of the Drop Pod icon as well - (consider it stolen), and the base also looks cool with the rusted metal floorplate - adds some colour contrast and interest to the base.

I saw a thread over on Frothers Unite in which a company called puppets war are releasing some conversion arms for gw dreadnoughts one of which looks a lot like twin-linked autocannons

link to the thread :(http://www.frothersunite.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=34235) You will need to scroll down a bit.
I had a look on puppets war's site but couldn't find them on there so I don't know if they are available yet.
