It's been six months since Ultramarine: The Movie was released. I looked at the site and only the Collector's Edition is available for sale. They've yet to release a 'cheaper' version of the film. I'm guessing they haven't sold nearly as many copies as they have hoped. There also has not been much news on the site and they certainly haven't touted any sales numbers.

At this point, it doesn't seem very likely we'll be seeing a followup film any time soon. I enjoyed Ultramarine, but definitely felt it was a 'first effort.' It would be great if the film does well and there will be more 40K movies forthcoming.

Of course, with GW's tight-lipped approach to marketing, we may not know until a week before the release that a new movie is coming.

What are everybody's thoughts?

I hope we get another film.

a sequel would be fine, but they need to make it bigger.

More marines, some vehicles, maybe a Dred, and they need to be fighting Orks or nids.

I really enjoyed the first film, though it did feel a bit much like a first effort. Any new film I would completely support.

The movie was OK. Not great by any means. There was a lot of walking around in the desert and having jumping contests.

The conflict in the temple and at the end were pretty cool, I thought.

The only realy problem I had with the movie was when they were retreating from the planet. That small handful of Space Marines mowing down their attackers like snotlings was over the top. Plus, only Khorne berserkers would have charged them like that. Those chaos marines should have had a mark of Khorne at least.

you will notice that they were mostly Khorne Bezerkers at the end.

the lighting was pretty poor so their Red armor wasn't super obvious.

No, they were Eldar, but the dust and lighting were poor enough to forgive the mistake

On moon miranda.

If "Ultramarine" was any indicator, I'm not all that unhappy that we won't be getting any sequels. Awful, repetitive dialogue, awful representation of the forces involved (AP2 bolters, braindead zombie horde Chaos marines, etc) very dated animation, paint-by-by-numbers story, there wasn't a whole lot to like.

and Avatar had a budget that was over a hundred times as large.

You arn't going to get Avatar levels of Animation on a movie with a budget 1% the size.

Have realistic expectations people, we can dream, but don't let your dreams get in the way of reality.

I love that scene "can't....reach, other guy, why don't you help me out man?"

It's not like he was alone, someone was literally right next to hm shooting, just ask, and his brother will toss it away.

I liked it, overall. I wasn't expecting Citizen Kane levels of cinema, of course. I mean, this is 40K we're talking about, it's a super-grimdark fictional universe that exists nearly as a parody of itself in so many ways, so I thought the storyline was suitable (not perfect but suitable) to establish the role of the Space Marines, Chaos, Daemons and all the rest.

For the budget they had, I thought the animation was acceptable for the length of the film. Yes, they could have done a bit better with certain aspects (lighting and diffusion), but this may have been sacrificed in the name of development costs and time, and I am fairly OK with that.

I would like to see a "grander" tale, perhaps the UM or IG fighting 'Nids in a hive-stack... though they might run into copyright issues with Ridley Scott and Alien and/or James Cameron and Aliens with such a thematic setting.

Overall, for a first-time effort to bring 40K to the big screen with no funding from GW, I thought Ultramarines was good enough to establish it as a viable property.

It is best to be a pessimist. You are usually right and, when you're wrong, you're pleasantly surprised.

^Agreed.

Maybe, instead of 'Nids, (or the standard Chaos foes), use another race, equally evil, but more complex? No necrons, too close to Terminators, but Orks, Eldar (or Dark Eldar), Tau, any of those could work. If they wanted to roll with more heresy, how about an Inquisitor (or Deathwatch) hunting a cult spreading through the hive, leading to Chaos and traitor guardsmen and whatnot.

Yeah, i found the movie a bit of a fail... but it was also enjoyable if you didn't try and find anything wrong with it some parts did need improving like the dialogue and there was something lacking in the over all feel of the movie... i agree that Graham probably should have written the plot for it... saying that, creating a movie about Uriel Ventris would be just as cool. But thats just my opinion.

Among my wishes for things to be done with the 40K universe, another codex pictures movie ranks pretty low.

I would actually avoid watching another movie like 'Ultramarines' not because it was bad - it was very ordinary - but because the black library books and my imagination make it so much more interesting and that movie made it seem bland.

I enjoyed Ultramarines. I gave it about a 6 or maybe 7 out of 10 when I went over it here. It was fun, but it wasn't anything special and it was of a low quality. But given GW put nothing into it other than the desire to receive money for the licensing agreement, of course it was low quality. Had they gone anything to prop the film up, we might have got a different result.

My biggest problem with Ultramarines remains the fact that everything felt weightless. The Ultramarines were filled with helium, walking within a gravity-less environment and there was no friction to speak of. Everything just flew around and slid.

Well, Marines are described as moving very quickly when they are wearing PA.

I think they do come accross as being heavy when they are hopping accross the broken bridge, although they could have made a part of the bridge break under their weight to make the point better.
