You're one of my inspirations I've mentioned. There's a few more scattered across the 40k/miniwargaming forums. Most of my inspiration I've stumbled across is by Googling "Dark Eldar Conversions".

Quick question for my fellow Archons.... Do you think helmeted heads or helmetless? I've always been of the opinion that helmetless equals more badass/epic. On the posing I've done, the helmetless heads all look a lot better.

I think helmeted heads look better on kabalite warriors unless they are an archon or sybarite then I think they should be distinguished from the rest. Just my opinion though.

Yeah. We were talking about that in The Dark City. I like it a lot, it just seems to me everyone is using it.

Some Finecast....









On precursory glance, I did not notice anything wrong with my Finecast models. Unfortunately, it isn't going to be until tomorrow that I can actually look at them. I've been awake for over 36 hours now. I stayed up so FedEx wouldn't take my packages back to Dodge City, which is like 2 hours away and all one-lane highways. Ugh.

I'm very jealous that you have your shinies already!

To your question about helmets, it is an unwritten rule in the 40k Universe that helmets make you less important, while pauldrons make you more important, while hats make you even more important! Note that not even the Emperor was important enough to wear both pauldrons and a hat. The only person ever to do this was Kharn the Betrayer, and that was in a deliberate act of sacrilege.

In regards to your Vect, he definitely needs hair and/or a hat. What self-respecting megalomaniac would be seen without a hat?! Show me a picture of a tyrannical dictator without a hat. Go on - I dare you. As for the cane - I love it! Whatever your archon's name is, it should be preceeded by the title "An Archon Named..."

Thanks for the support. I agree about a hat. I was actually trying to find a wide-brimmed hat for him that would fit. My sculpting skills are pretty sub-par.

Personally, I think the Dark Eldar have to be kitbashed. If they're not, not only is it a disservice to the model, but you're not looking at the full potential of the plastics. I've already probably shelled out and/or traded close to $75 worth of bits (going of Ebay pricing) and am constantly trying to figure out what looks the most realistic and dynamic.

My first warriors were all straight from the box and boringly static. They're being mixed into to the new warriors. So some will look alert and static while others will be looking for new playthings.

The Dark City is pure Dark Eldary goodness. I know that some people won't want to go there, so this serves as a source of inspiration/a way of getting more feedback and inspiration/as well as advertising.

So here's thinking about paint. I'd like to see what you all think, especially some of the finer painters.



This is what I'm thinking.
GW Paint First/Reaper Paint Second. And for the record, I'll be using Reaper Paints.

Kabalites:
Imperial Purple/Deep Amethyst armor.
Goblin Green/Field Green accents.
Burnished Gold/New Gold metal shoulder pads.
Mithril Silver/Polished Silver guns.
Chaos Black/Pure Black under-armor.

Deviations:
I want my forces to look unified, yet distinctly separate.
Incubi will have white faces, similar armor.
Wyches will have a reversed paint scheme with armor and accents.
Haemonculi will have a completely different paint scheme (yet to be decided) with Kabalite armor paint.
Hellions will follow closely to Wyches.
Reavers will follow closely to Kabalites.

Your interest in colour theory speaks to the art student in me. I would suggest that you paint the whole army up before adding the deviations, just so you can see how it works and where the separate accent colours will go.

Can't wait to see some of those trueborn painted up and looking nasty.

Everything's looking good so far, but I do have to disagree about the 'hat' for your Vect.

Perhaps some kind of circlet or a crown fused into his flesh, or maybe even a cowl? Something that noticeably makes him 'different' to the rest of the army, but isn't just "Ooh, I have a hat!".
