So, decided to put together a little Iron Hands force. As many bionic bits as possible, and some traditional pre-heresy weaponry (so no multimeltas and assault cannons!). Also, like every good Iron Hands army, MANY DREADS.

Ian, you can't post individual points costs for upgrades man, it would violate copyright or whatnot, basically change it so it's more like:

As for the list, I will point out the CML's are post-heresy (the Havoc Launcher was its predecessor) and Vindicators were mid-heresy ish IIRC, but for the list itself, I like the idea, however I'd recommend:

- I'd recommend swapping the Dreadnoughts TL Heavy Bolters for Lascannons or Autocannons; therefore they could provide some solid anti-tank firepower whilst also providing counter-attacking elements.

- I've not heard good things about Servitors

- I'd recommend getting some kind of transport for the Assault Termies, otherwise their use would be limited IMHO, being an assault unit they obviously need to get into assault, however foot-slogging they'd likely be shot, whilst if they deep-strike they can also be shot or avoided. I'd probably recommend dropping the tactical termies for a godhammer Land Raider, which could provide armour saturation, firepower and a method of delivering Lysander and the termies into combat. Alternatively, you could drop the assault termies for whatever and have Lysander run with the tactical terminators.

- I would advise against EA on rhinos; it adds about 50% of the cost but adds relatively little IMHO whilst at AV11 a rhino wouldn't exactly be immune to being destroyed/wrecked...

- I would agree with the idea of swapping the Vindicator for a Predator, however you may need its points to upgrade the Dreads or go for a LR if you choose to?

Hope that helps man, I'm not an expert on Codex: Space Marines, but I'd consider some of the above at least. Love the idea though; Iron Hands are great, as are pre-heresy armies!

I've made a few changes - removed extra armour, cyclone and vindicator and tried to make room for a Land Raider. However, to fit the Land Raider in I've had to lose a whole Dreadnought!

I like vindicators but would that be pre heresy , if only you could find an old landraider, and modernise it a bit with new kit (ie lascannons on original are horrid)

Well, it ends up as a toss up between the original, with some conversions...



Or this, which is the FW 'Pre-heresy' style. I'm not convinced, but the price of an original on eBay at the moment it about the same as this..!

I fully support the idea of a old school landraider with new lascanons mounted like the old ones vertically staggered.
probabily best you order two of the razorback sprues or bits those canons are thinner... i think...

I'd say keep the dread and drop the standard termies... they never seem to do that good in games.
I'd also look at giving all the dreads Lascannons or meltas to up your anti tank.

GW have loads a fists bits you can get.



and third party companies have loads of cool tech bits.

See, I personally really like the look of the FW pre-heresy Land Raider, whereas I dislike the really old school one. Different strokes for different folks and all that I guess.

I think the latest list looks better IMHO, however I would recommend dropping a termie squad (and the servitors for the additional points) for extra armour on the Land Raider and then you could afford another couple of dreadnoughts or whatever else you want! The dreads would be handy for armour saturation with the Land Raider, as well as firepower and being very cool.

The assault terminators are more competitive, however the tactical termies can benefit from Lysanders 'bolter drill' and are powerful themselves with Lysander, so although I'd probably echo panic's idea of dropping the tactical termies, it could probably go either way I guess.

Regarding the Land Raider, i DO like those tracks, but that's £100 for the model. Bloody hell. Those shoulder pads are Imprerial Fist ones. The Iron Hands symbol is an open bionic claw rather than a closed fist. Unfortunately, GW don't make Iron Hands ones - the only people that do are, unfortunately, Chapterhouse. :(

You can't buy the pre-heresy conversion kit for the Land Raider separately. I've already GOT a new-style Landraider hull, but then I'd have a new-style Land Raider with the old-style treads. The tank in that photo you posted is of the FW Pre-Heresy model with the special treads, not a standard Land Raider.

Plasma Cannons are very pre-heresy. Autocannon on the pred because I can't afford any more Lascannons!

yeah just buy the treads; Use your old hull and mount the new style lascannons like the old ones... a bit of a mish mash but I think if those treads go all the way around people will get it.

I think the new list looks solid Ian, seems Iron-hands(y) and is semi-competitive so you should do fine with it.

I know what you mean about the tactical termies; you could potentially swap the assault termies for the tacticals; whilst they're less competitive, they're still pretty good and can benefit from Lysander's bolter-drill.
I'd toy with the weapons on the dreadnoughts, but they're pretty good also.

The only thing I would recommend changing is to get EA on the Land Raider; at 250pts you want that thing to be reliable and able to perform at every opportunity IMHO.
