A lot of people draw attention to certain aspects of new codeci and how bad/evil/game wrecking/against fluff/satanic these bits are. Well after pondering this for a small time i decided to think about the flip side, 'cos i'ma rebel like that .
What units did your favorite/primary/shiniest codex get right?

For me it was the Wolf Scouts entry in the Space Wolf codex.
I love them and and i only wish i could field an entire army of them but i count so go figure...

For CSM; Khorne Berzerkers. Nicely priced, rules that reflect fluff but don't cause much of a balance tip... Overall, they're probably the most balanced unit in the CSM codex; they're good at their job, but not too good, and they're not amazing at other things, but not absolutely terrible.

For Tau, at the time, the Crisis Suit would probably be the best unit, and possibly the same now, although the broadside puts up a good fight here too, as does the hammerhead in terms of how it was upon release.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

Dark Eldar: I love Venoms

Tau: Railheads, XV88s, XV8s and XV9s

Space Marines: I have always been a fan of scouts with devastator support. Plus Termies with TH/SS

Necrons: Monolith=good.

Tied and gagged in the back of your car

The Ork codex got damn near everything right except for Flash Gitz. Easily one of the best codecies GW's done.

The Grey Knights codex got Paladins mostly right. Basically a love letter to me. Some things are overcosted and the unit really needs some way of defending against shooting (seriously, for how much we pay for the warding stave, it should block shooting as well), but it's definetly a fun unit.

The Blood Angels codex got Vangaurd Veterans right. Essentially just a huge improvement that made a horrible unit quite deadly. Honour Gaurd also kick ass (and pretty much the main reason why I made my truescale army, shame that they're limited to one per HQ).

The Imperial Gaurd codex got Company Command Squads perfect. Highly versatile and variable, able to act as great support units or as offensive powerhouses. One of the best HQ units in the game.

IG- Commissars. Brilliantly done and the rules forever show their ruthlessness

Daemons- Nurglings. pesky buggers, can be lethal and are generally quite fun. Well done GW, honestly, you've depicted them brilliantly on the field

CSM- Plague Marines. Aside from the horrible models, the rules fit. GJ.

I play the BA codex now. Making assault marines a troop choice. With the vanilla codex I had to take 150 points of scouts before I could take assault marines.

Bringing Jokaero into the inquisitorial warbands. It doesn't make much sense, but the rules are fine and anyway, everything's better with monkeys.

Oh, of course Rune Priests. Other than abysmal passive powers, their shooting's GREAT. Say no to JotWW, I dare you.

Grey hunters are amazing, as are Long Fangs. The most adaptable and therefore best are Wolf Guard, though.

CSM: Zerkers, PM, Chosen. Done, done, and done.

SM: Vindicators. I love them. So. Much.

I love how the 5th ed IG book did Vets, they need an infiltrate option but they're almost perfect. I love my 14 plasma gun army!

Orders too have worked well.

Chimera fire points are just wrong, and the Vendetta is just too darn good, but all in all it's a strong book.

There are elements of the GK codex I like, but it also squated my army so I'm nto about to send Mat Ward flowers.

I have to say Ork boys. Devastating in close combat, but can be picked off at a range. Yet the thing is, there are always more and more.
And...
Everything Imperial Guard

"Oomans are pink and soft, not tough and green like da Boyz. They'z all the same size too, so they'z always arguing about who's in charge, 'cos there's no way of telling 'cept fer badges an' ooniforms and fings. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says, "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me," or, "I know summink you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good." Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it. Wot a lot of mukkin' about if yer asks me. An' while they'z all arguin' wiv each other over who's da boss, da Orks can clobber da lot."

Before the GK codex, the Old Witchhunter Codex with its allies rules

It really allowed you to play the Ordos intead of the Astartes or the IG. Inquisitors, with their colorful retinue, assassins really made for a fluffy army when you could mix and match with the other Forces of the Imperium.
But now, they are restricted to working with GK, as im told.

Tyranids, truely it was easy to feild an army that had your enemy surrounded and outnumbered fairly quickly with almost no end to the amount of xenomorphs in sight. Truely a codex that fit its fluff 110% (well, outside of nid-zilla lists).

ANd ill have to join in with the SW loving, (regardless of my utter HATE for JotWW) i love the fluff, the actual bitz REALLY fit the 'Dex, the majority of the 'wolf' units are both fluffy AND useful (take that space pope :p ). And, come-on, who doesnt like vikings?

I like vikings, just not furries which is what Codex Space Wolves is pretty close to turning into, it should focus more on the viking aspect and less on the "all wolves all the time" aspect.

Damn near everything in the Dark eldar codex,

The old torture porn feel i hated. The models were fugly and the codex was a either a joke or irritating to fight (like trying to argue grotesques inability to be wounded by anything below s 6 against poisoned weapon hits etc..

The new dark fey feel and gorgeous models (mostly) are so much better. I didn't collect the old ones, and wouldn't have considered it, but the new ones are just too awesome.

Big fan of the Ork codex (barring a few things) and most of the ork range (a few ancient models need updates), especially the new kanz and dredds. Awesome models

Also AOBR, ah AOBR. Thankyou sincerely for AOBR, GW. The models may be a bit static, but they fleshed out my waagh hugely, and the deffkoptas are sooo much better than the original that i'll even forgive you rigging the startup game's points values and unit selections..

Of course i bought my five boxes before they doubled in price

The Ork and DE codexes. The Ork codex is simple and straightforward, and is just as forgiving as any SM dex. And bar from the little Wound Allocation booboo with nobz, it's pretty balanced as far as I can see.

The DE codex was superbly executed. There are three distinct builds and all are equally good, as is mixing units from any three build. Now if only the Daemons can get this as well....

why is it that everyone and their mother calls the Space Wolves Fething Furries? its just what they got from their Primarch, its what makes Blood Angels blood-thirsty, what makes Ultramarines so Arogant, and black templars so Zealous (and witch hating).

Besides, you cant get much more Viking than preparing for battle in the Emprah's name by getting completely smashed on whatever Alcohol is on hand.. A lot better than Pray Zealously, or shining your weapons and armor.

BA assault marines being troops, it really fits the fluff, as do the Vanguard Vets. (i dont like that it has made BA Tactical squads pretty much redundant though, thats kinda annoying).
