What's the point?

They seem kind of useless to me.

Not as many as Guard. Worse armour (vehicles) than guard. Less tactics than guard (see: Lord Castellan Ursakar E. Creed)

Not as powerful as Space Marines. Lower-quality version of space marines equipment. Less training. Less...useful.

They are all "my faith protects me" but only the prayers of psykers actually help the Emperor.

And stupidest of all-they give their penitent engines to criminals. "You've been evil so we'll make you unimaginably powerful and just trust you not to kill us with the weapons we give you."

The Grey Knights used them to polish their armour and quite frankly that's all they deserve.

Nuns with guns are just about the most awful excuse for a military force I could possibly imagine and I think GW just created the Nuns with guns (Bolter Bitches) to satisfy feminist players.

Anyways, I just wanted to share my opinion of them and see what Dakka thinks about the SoB

And you called me a troll...
The Sisters of Battle are the Militant wing of the Ecclesiarchy. After the Reign of Blood under Goge Vandire the Ecclesiarchy were forbidden from having men under arms. To get past this and still keep to their word the Ecclesiarchy instead recruited women. The original Sisters of Battle have their origins in the Brides of the Emperor, a bodyguard of fanatical women who protected Vandire until they excecuted him for heresy.

Incidentally it is quite clear you know fairly little about the background of the Sisters of Battle which explains a lot, either that or this is intentional flamebait.

Considering she trolled the tau thread, maybe this is payback?

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do

Me thinks a troll cometh into our midst.

It is the 3rd Millennium. For more than a hundred months Games Workshop has sat immobile on the Golden Throne of Nottingham. It is the foremost of wargames by the will of the neckbeards, and master of a million tabletops by the might of their inexhaustible wallets. It is a rotting carcass writhing invisibly with business strategies from the early Industrial Revolution Age. It is the Carrion Lord of the wargaming scene for whom a thousand veteran players are sacrificed every day, so that it may never truly die. Yet even in its deathless state, GW continues its eternal vigilance. Mighty battleforce starter-sets cross the online-store-infested miasma of the internet, the only route between distant countries, their way lit by a draconian retail trade-agreement, the legal manifestation of the GW's will. Vast armies of lawyers give battle in GW's name on uncounted websites. Greatest amongst its soldiers are the Guardians of the IP, the Legal Team, bio-engineered super-donkey-caves. Their comrades in arms are legion: the writing team and countless untested rulebooks, the ever vigilant redshirts, and the writers of White Dwarf, to name only a few. But for all their multitudes, they are barely enough to hold off the ever-present threat from other games, their own incompetence, Based Chinaman - and worse. To support Games Workshop in such times is to spend untold billions. It is to support the cruelest and most dickish company imaginable. These are the tales of those times. Forget the power of sales discounts and Warhammer Fantasy Battle, for so much has been dropped, never to be re-published again. Forget the promise of cheaper digital content and caring about the fanbase, for in the GW HQ there is only profit-seeking, Space Marines and Sigmarines. There is no fun amongst the hobby shops, only an eternity of raging and spending, and the laughter of former employees who left GW to join better companies.

Atleast commissars are useful (unlike SoB).

Especially Gaunt. Arguably my favourite wh40k character, other than Lysander and Puretide.

No, it's just the fact that putting armour on a chick does not make her a warrior (not saying chicks can't be warriors, just these ones)

Atleast commissars are useful (unlike SoB).

SoB are produced by the same institution that trains Commissars and Stormtroopers, so they're basically a small army of power armored Commissars.

It is one of the older codexes, so no it's not as powerful as some of the new dexes.
And stupidest of all-they give their penitent engines to criminals. "You've been evil so we'll make you unimaginably powerful and just trust you not to kill us with the weapons we give you."
They hardwire repentant heretics into penitent Engines, not your average criminal.
The Grey Knights used them to polish their armour and quite frankly that's all they deserve.

Come one, are you trying to start a flame war? if you have genuine questions about the SoB there are more tactful ways to ask about them.

Yes, numbers wise they're not really relevant, though their main job is garrison duty on Shrineworlds and serving as power armored shock troops for the Inquisition, so numbers aren't too important as they serve largely ceremonial or auxiliary roles.
Worse armour (vehicles) than guard.

They're two editions out of date, so the vehicles are overcosted, otherwise identical aside from the lack of proper artillery or main battle tanks.

Less tactics than guard (see: Lord Castellan Ursakar E. Creed)

They fill a role that's either "stand behind these fortifications and shoot things" or "do what the Inquisitor says", so lack of strategic aptitude isn't important.

Lower-quality version of space marines equipment.

They're equipped by the Eclesiarchy, the single most corrupt and opulent entity in the setting. They're ridiculously inefficient equipment is just as good as the Astartes ridiculously inefficient equipment, and covered in gold to boot.

They are all "my faith protects me" but only the prayers of psykers actually help the Emperor.

Humans are all weak psykers, so believing something hard enough does slightly manifest it, hence acts of faith and whatnot. Same way Ork technology works: just believe it hard enough and it somewhat happens.

And stupidest of all-they give their penitent engines to criminals. "You've been evil so we'll make you unimaginably powerful and just trust you not to kill us with the weapons we give you."

They're drugged to a point of mindless psychosis, then let loose to randomly destroy everything they see when there's something nearby that they should kill. It's a weird, pointlessly inefficient practice done for symbolic reasons, like everything Space Marines do.

Last time I checked, I heart my SoB and I'm not a feminist player...

I personally like SoB because I see them as a step above my guard, and not quite the SM that I loath. I take pride in fielding (generally) entire T3 armies. The appeal to me is that the the unaugmented humans face the horrors of 40k and still manage to pull through.

I like the Sisters. Without them, 40k would be just one big plastic wiener-fest.

All joking aside, I think the Sisters serve a great purpose on both the tabletop and the background. They sort of represent the best humans can be without genetic manipulation and all that jazz.

Just a gal, a bolter, determination, and faith in victory.

Actions define a person.

You know what seems pointless to me? Tau.

Ad mech finds them as some savage race and their planet's are slated for cleansing. Then some warp storm kicks up and some Tyranid show up saving them. While hiding in their plot armour they manage to go from sticks and rocks to plasma and anti-grav technology. They also form cults.

They have worse armour (vehicles) than Eldar. They have worse tactics than Eldar (See: Eldrad Ulthran). Not as fast as Eldar. They're all like "The Greater Good is the way forward and will unify the universe".

The stupidest thing is their eyes take longer to adjust to far away objects and they have a whole cast that was bred for melee, yet they decide to ignore the added advantage of melee combat and give those guys long range rifles.

Tau are just about the most awful excuse for a military force I could possibly imagine and I think GW just created the Tau to try to satisfy the Otaku players.

Anyways, I just wanted to share my opinion on them and see what Dakka thinks.
