Haven't played it but it is definitely on my to-do list for the near future.

Only thing that concerns me is that I have heard it said that Spartan Games don't produce very good rulesets. Whether that is in the context of tournament balance or in general; I'm not sure.

The game is fun and somewhat reminiscent of Man O' War. It is a "I go you go" game where you alternate movement and firing of squadrons/individual ships. You can play with or without the faction decks of cards (which do make things a little more interesting), the fleets all have a different feel and a starter fleet is pretty affordable. It does lend itself nicely to multi-player games as well (giving you a nice excuse to put out some sea monsters.)

I'm willing to cut them a break on the rules set since they are a small company and it was there first rule set. They've improved with each additional rules set (Firestorm Armada for space battles and Dystopian Wars for combined arms/steampunk) and they continue to put out nice figs.

pretty well playable. i took a friend of mine who had never played a game of tabletop minis before and taught him the whole system and played a 'fleet box' battle of 1 battleship, 3 cruisers, and 2 squadrons of 3 frigates in a single evening. point balance is across a fleet, as the same points of battleship can almost always outgun a similar points of smaller vessels, but the tier 3 Fleet Composition System makes the balance fairly ironclad in my opinion. its worth a shot and its super cheap to boot. rulebook and two starters(for demos) should run 100-130 depending on the fleet(all resin models are much cheaper than resin with pewter sails)

I saw a big knock-down drag-out in this game and picked up an Iron Dorf--err, Dwarf starter, HCs and some subs.

I finally after having purchased a couple of fleets and the rules (Dwarves + Bone Griffons) had my first game with a mate last week. Stumbled over the wording of some of the rules but once you get what they were talking about its a simply quick and really good game. Having my second game wednesday, hopefully will go smoother now that we pretty much get the rules. Going to start making some basic scenery, islands, rocky outcrops and the like. We had a few DVD cases on the table just for effect first time.

Give it a go, not expensive to give it a try either

If your going to do something wrong, do it right!!!!

Love the game. Easy to learn. They are going to include basic rules with their new starter set!

A very solid game.

I just picked up the sister game Firestorm Armada.

Uncharted Seas rule books is better written IMO, more streamlined.

But still digging the rules for FSA.

Each fleet in US has their own flavor the goes along with the race. They are all balanced, each has a strength and weakness.

My only complaint is I wish the sails were made of plastic and not metal. Other than that, the models are top notch.

Heh, I started in Spartan Games with Firestorm Armada, and then moved on to Dystopian Wars. I have always been interested in Uncharted, though. I'm thinking about picking up the new version of the rule book when it hits!

As much as I like the models for DW, the games is way to scattered for me.

Ships in water. Ships in air.

Carriers in water. Carriers in the air.

You got land, sea and air.

Just to mishmash for my taste. And to the point it does not make any sense.

I've seen the game played and it looks awfully fun. I have played a couple games of Firestorm Armada, and from what I've seen the rules are pretty similar. You'll want your big box of D6 to shoot with. The models are fantastic on all of Spartan's games. I think I would prefer Uncharted Seas to Firestorm Armada or Dystopian Wars just because I do not like fighters. (Makes the game too complex for my dwindling IQ points.)

It's a good ruleset very luck based. I'd recommend it. I tend to play it fairly regularly and it makes a nice change of style.

"But me no buts! Our comrades get hurt. Our friends die. Falkenburg is a knight who swore an oath to serve the church and to defend the weak. He'd be the first to tell you to stop puling and start planning. Because what we are doing-at risk to ourselves-is what we have sworn to do. The West relies on us. It is a risk we take with pride. It is an oath we honour. Even when some soft southern burgher mutters about us, we know the reason he sleeps soft and comfortable, why his wife is able to complain about the price of cabbages as her most serious problem and why his children dare to throw dung and yell "Knot" when we pass. It's because we are what we are. For all our faults we stand for law and light.

Recently got into Uncharted Seas and so far one of the biggest things for me is how cheap and well produced the minis are. They are all resin (with the occasional metal part sails/turrets) the level of detail (especially in the new sculpts) is impressive and GW/FW should hang their collective heads in shame as so far in the 40+ models I have I've yet to see one flaw. Oh and the price the biggest ships (flagships) are below a tenner and the fleet boxes (battleship, cruisers, frigates, quick start rules, fleet guide, templates and counters) are £24-£30 bargain.

The game for me is the perfect blend of tactics/luck and fun.

Indeed! The exploding D6 mechanic definitely keeps things interesting, and tends to be a love it or hate it aspect of Spartan Games. Personally, I love it; you just have to accept that there will be some days when an enemy frigate one-hits your battleship !

agreed, ordering two starter boxes, additional ships including command and heavy cruisers, a Dragon Lords dragon, a sea giant, a Bone Griffin flying beastie and all for a bit over $200 U.S.

Later tonight I'm shelling out $25 for a single, small War of the Rings Mordor Siege Bow. don't ask me why...

We are anticipating Uncharted a lot -- give it a go, the one time I saw it played the crew was having a blast. And flying undead griffons fighting magically powered ships? yes please!
