Hey all - I'm a long time 40k fan and have never more than glanced at Warhammer, but now that I've begun trying Warhammer Online with the lady, I thought I'd ask a few questions I've become curious about:

-What's the name of the planet? Is it really just called Warhammer World?

-is its entire system cut off by warp storms to the rest of the 40k universe? If not, what is its believed connection to the 40k universe?

-Is Warhammer Online a good representation of the universe from a lore/art/historic perspective?

-is there anything else I should know about Warhammer after looking into it for the first time after being a long time 40k fan?

It isn't "fluff" - it's lore.

GW now says that the worlds of Warhammer and 40k have no connection. Once they tried to combine them but ran into too much logic issues.

Warhammer Online basically is a very good representation of the Warhammer World, esp. as you now know how the world looks, including war camps of many fractions. Of course Warhammer Online takes place in a special moment of several invasions that are not normal in the Warhammer World.

Warhammer tabletop favours larger games with big blocks of infantry, has erratic high magic making competitive play difficult, has compulsory terrain with some special effects and generally is a bit more complicated than 40k.

Warhammer Online is a really good representation of the artwork. They even got a ton of obscure lore in it. But trolls look like trolls. Daemons, daemons. Pointy-hat elfs, etc. Obviously the abilities and spells and such are way different since it's a MMO.

There's a lot of stuff that's the same in the 40K -> WHFB lore, but it's not connected.

WAR has been one of my major sources for terrain, between the art and the fluff it does a good job.

I would take time and read the rules, 9th is still a young edition, however it's likely the best one I've played.

There was quite a bit of fluff leading to a 40k connection in old editions. The prize objects in the Albion campaign were pretty obviously 40k gear as interpreted by fantasy races: Power Fist as Gauntlet of the Gods and whatnot. I believe there was also some hints that Sigmar was a Primarch from one of the lost legions. Canon or not it's fun to think about. My favorite game of Warhammer is still one where we played 500pts of Chaos Marines with huge stat inflations against 2000 pts of Empire and Dwarfs on one end of the table and 2000 of greenskins on the other.

But maybe he has come back to warn Marty and us about DWELLERS ABOVE!!!! the new uberspell from Lore Of Resin that is cast on a 20+, which allows you to hit your opponent in the face as hard as you can with the new 6000 page 9th ed rulebook and for every 6 inches they stumble backwards you do 4d6 S10 hit to target unit in the same gaming room as you.

The lore attribute would be called something like "Continuous price increase"

Indeed and for every Fine Cast mini you have on the table the spell costs 2 less to play

Also, if your opponent complains, the spell automatically negates their babbling and you raise the price even higher. Also you lose -6 loyalists.
