Well I hit up a local RTT this weekend and decided to give a no MC Nid list a go. The title reflects the building idea behind the list since JotWW single handedly kept me out of the finals at Adepticon by causing me to tie (no....it could only have been that! Nothing else could possibly have been the reason for me not to make the finals!!!!! Cause overreacting on the internet is fun )

The first report is up so head on over and check it out:

Thanks guys!

That cannot be your actual list it has Lictors in it, it doesn't have Tervignons and it doesn't max out hive guard. There is no way anyone could ever play tyranids with that list (sarcasm)

I actually really like that list for Tyranids, I am surprised though you do not have any venomthropes in it, unless you are finding that you can get enough cover from existing terrain features.

That is a bummer that your opponent did not know their codex or deliberately inflated some of the values.

@Calypso2ts

I've found after this weekend that I think that Lictors only work in multiple groups of 3 (2x3 or 3x3) minimum. So they probably won't make it into the final version of this list.

I've found venomthropes to be less than useful since I can generally generate cover as long as it's not planet bowling ball. But I can see their use if you don't have much cover.

Regarding my opponent I'm pretty sure he just didn't know. His primary army is DE and he hadn't played his Tau in a while. My only quirck about it is that he didn't offer to double check for me but I was trying really hard to play fast enough to get to turn 4-5.

That's the pitfall with playing a horde army in a timed setting. Many times, you won't finish the game, especially if your opponent has an average model count or higher.

BTW, I'm guessing you won it all.

Well I finished all my other games at 6 and 7 turns. So I'm pretty sure it wasn't me but in general I agree.

What is the max squad size on the Raveners? And really, if you are running all foot bugs wouldn't it be cheaper to use gaunts or hormagaunts as a screen vice gargoyles?

And it would be close to the same price and far slower. Remember that if you're running a horde your biggest problem is getting in you're own way. Infiltraters, beasts, and jump infantry keep that from happening

As an alternative to Lictors I will use a deathleaper if i need the "jump out and boo' tactic. I like to harass something from the safety of area terrain, Go to ground vs any instant death or high volume fire, then at the end of the next movement phase just 'pook' him off the table (the where'd he go rule states that the player removes the deathleaper from the table, not that he moves himself so going to ground doesn't prevent it) and then late-game contest an objective or go for an easy KP in an assault if possible.

Been out of the game for awhile, trying to find time to get back into it.

Raveners....I need more of them. I've got 10K+ of nids but only 4 raveners. Sigh....

Raveners are where it's at man. 2-3 squads of 5 will make you a happy, hard hitting crazy man
