Is there anything I can do to counter clear coat frosting once its on the model? Its not bad, but enough for me to notice and get mad about.

Gathering the Informations.

There was a thread about this not too long ago.

Basically:
What you want to do is apply another coat of clearcoat or if it's bad frosting, apply a coat of gloss.

Once the gloss dries, you can apply another coat of clearcoat and see how it looks. If it keeps frosting--stop spraying when it's humid.

It's more the humidity you have to worry about in my experience. Temperatures below 60F are bad, and humidity above 60-70% is really bad. If you can get a hot dry day, things should turn out better, but go with what's worked for you before with this particular clear coat.

To think that if I had never got into Warhammer, I'd probably have enough money for a down payment on a house...

What I do is go down in the basement close the door on the room that has the dehumidifier in it. Set the unit to 45% and then come back and spray in that room 3 or 4 hours later with the door closed.

Poor orks... Why can't they be the good guys for once?

I just had this issue on vehicles and used enamel paint thinner/brush cleaner. I painted it on with an old brush and it cleared up 90% of the frosting I experienced.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Try enamel paint thinner first, as most spray varnish has an oil base (is not acrylic).

Once dry you can use the varnish over trick to finish the job.

We're not very big on official rules. Rules lead to people looking for loopholes. What's here is about it.

I dunno about this enamel paint thinner stuff. I've never done it before but I have a lot of success using a heavy coat of gloss, letting it work and 75% through the initial drying phase, hitting it again with gloss. I kept doing this repeatedly until the frost went away (I was able to remove 90% of frost using this technique). I think the key was applying gloss spray varnish when the previous coat was still drying so the solvent could still reach the damaged matt coat. my success can be seen on these red skinks.

I've used mineral spirits with some luck but nothing gets rid of the frosting like this stuff: Mohawk Super Blush Retarder. It's best used RIGHT after you varnish (spray matt or gloss) the minis and realize they're frosting. Spray on a coat of this stuff and let it dry for 24 hours. The first coat usually does the job but you can do a second if it doesn't.

I just HAD to finish my recent squad I've been painting during this last rain we had here in the Bay Area and decided to try and spray on their matt finish. Much to my chagrin the blushing was instant and really bad... Of course it was in 100% humidity! This stuff squelched it in one coat about 10 minutes after I realized was going south. Lesson: Don't rush your projects but if you do make sure you prepare for the worst!
